Chapter Text
The water poured, hitting the ground with a loud echoing sound. It had been raining for the past day or so, it never stopped. Vi wondered if the clouds were upset about something, perhaps global warming. Either way, there was nothing she could do about it.
Water droplets pattered against the plastic of her umbrella. Tall buildings surrounded her, bright lights blinding me and causing her sight to blur. Her eyelids shut, and she took a deep breath. Exhaling the fresh air from her lungs, she saw something that caught her eye. A woman across the street, sitting on a bench with nothing to protect her from the clouds’ aggressive tears. The woman’s gaze was on the big billboards that lit up the sky. Isn’t she cold? Vi felt a sudden interest in this woman, and now she wanted to know who she was. Cars sped down the street, headlights beaming strongly. She waited for the lights to turn red, and she ran across the street as soon as they did. Of course, the woman didn’t notice Vi. Seeing her close, she was a sight to behold. Her beauty was astonishing. Her navy blue dress complimented her deep blue eyes and dark blue hair.
Her jawline was sharp, but still soft. Vi felt her cheeks heating up as she continued to stare, everything around her gone, her focus only on her now. Finally, the woman looked at her. She smiled sweetly at Vi and she felt her stomach flutter, she’s never felt this before. “Something bothering you, darling?” the woman tilted her head slightly as she gazed at Vi with her beautiful eyes. Her accent caught Vi off-guard, the slight British subtle but clear when she spoke. “What’s your name?” Vi blurted out. Why would she say that? She just met her! The woman didn’t seem to mind, though. “Straight to the point I see,” she chuckled before replying, “Caitlyn.”
Caitlyn and her have quite a lot in common. She’s really pretty, but Vi can’t say that aloud. It’s weird for her to feel these things towards another woman, especially one she barely knows at that. It feels wrong but she can’t help it.
Caitlyn keeps on eagerly rambling on about her cat, who’s name is apparently Luna. Caitlyn showed me a picture of Luna. To be honest, Vi wasn’t really listening. She just can’t take her eyes off of her. She wanted to know more about her, not her cat. “Do you have a boyfriend?” Vi was almost taken aback by her own sudden question. “Oh,” Caitlyn sighed. Maybe this was a rather personal question, she shouldn’t have asked that. “Sorry, you don’t have to-” Vi was cut off by her calming voice. “No, I don’t mind,” she smiled. “I’m single. Have been for a while.” Really? She finds it strange that such a beauty would not have a partner already. “How come?” She’s now extremely curious; how is she single? “I’m not that interested in men,” she shrugged. Vi felt her cheeks burning, like someone was holding a lighter to them.
“Oh- uh..” She hoped her nervousness wasn't too obvious. She stared at Vi intently, waiting for her to say something. But what could she say? She was speechless, of course. She didn’t expect Caitlyn to be so straightforward. The silence was awkward, Vi’s heart pounding in her chest. She felt as if it would fly out of her chest at any given moment. At last, she cleared her throat and looked away. She stared at the cars rushing past, hoping Caitlyn would stop staring at her. But she could still feel her eyes on her, boring into her soul. Vi’s hand gripped the umbrella’s handle tighter as she suddenly felt something touch her shoulder. Slowly turning her head to the side, she sees that it was Caitlyn. Her fingertips grazed her skin and her whole body tensed up. She scooted closer to me, their thighs pressing against each other. She wanted to speak, but the words caught in her throat. Vi looked away again and stared at the ground. She felt Caitlyn’s hand rubbing her arm, her touch making Vi feel weak. She tapped Vi’s shoulder and she looked at Caitlyn again. “Is that your ride?” Caitlyn nodded in the direction of the bus that had stopped. “No,” that was a lie. It was the bus Vi always took home, but this woman intrigued her and she didn’t want to leave just yet. Vi took out her phone and handed it to Caitlyn, where did this sudden courage come from? Caitlyn stared at her, a puzzled look on her face. “I want your number,” that was an oddly bold thing for Vi to say, seeing how she had squirmed when Caitlyn said she was single. Caitlyn tapped away at the screen and handed it back to her. Caitlyn stood up with a sigh before speaking in a gentle tone. “I’ll be on my way then,” she waved as she walked away. Vi waved back enthusiastically. Had she actually just given her her number? Vi looked at the screen and blushed slightly at the contact name Caitlyn had put for herself. ‘Pretty lady’. She wasn’t wrong about that though.
It’s only been two days since her interaction with Caitlyn and she can’t stop thinking about how odd it was. How easily she agreed to give Vi her number. How she could be so close to her without batting an eye. Vi started to wonder if she had seen her before. In another life, or a dream perhaps. She just didn’t feel..real. Her phone vibrated with a notification, it was from Caitlyn. She opened the message and read it. “We should hang out, don’t you think?” her voice echoed in her head. Vi felt that weird feeling in her stomach again. How does she respond to this? She pondered to herself for a moment before finally sending her own text. “Sure. What time?” She wanted to keep it short and casual. Vi didn’t want to seem too excited but not too dull either. She responded quicker than Vi had expected. “Sounds great! Your place or mine?” Was she being serious? Her thoughts are everywhere, why is this happening to her? How could she be so lucky? “Why don’t we meet up in the park?” Vi responds, she must have misunderstood her, no? “But it’s freezing out! You seriously want to be outside in this weather?” Wait, what? Vi looked out the window and she immediately felt stupid. A layer of snow covered the benches in the park where kids usually play, and more kept on falling down from the sky, quite heavily at that. “Oh yeah, sorry. Why don’t we meet some other time then?” As much as she wanted to see her again, maybe it was for the best. She watched as the three floating dots moved rhythmically, awaiting her response. “Aww. But you do have a point.” Vi can’t hear Caitlyn, but she can feel the disappointment in her words. “Sorry. Maybe when the weather’s better.” Vi replied, trying to lighten the mood. “Great. I’ll be waiting.” She didn’t respond to her comment. Vi didn’t know how to respond to her comment.
She threw herself back onto her bed and buried her face into her pillow with a groan. If only it wasn’t so cold..
