Work Text:
It’s quiet in the infirmary.
Lucas watches the steady rise and fall of the blanket. Guilt crawls beneath his skin, and he forces his hands to stay at his side.
He failed.
He promised he would keep them safe, and he lied.
The honor student assured him it was fine, he couldn’t have known. But if he can’t protect them, what is he even good for?
Hollow uselessness fills him as his mind spirals.
Kaito’s face is pale as he lies unconscious, body covered in sullied bandages.
And Lucas can’t do anything but listen to his shallow breaths and wait.
