“Sharing a bed, eating together, sleeping together… Ceci.” Gigi pauses. Her eyes flick to the other’s lips, a hint of judgement evident in her gaze. “Ceci, what are we?”
Gigi’s breath hitches. She furrows her brows, mouth open as if to speak, but the words get stuck in her throat. A pool of guilt drowning her once more. She ponders, just for a second. Would speaking out really give her the closure she so desperately craves?
Ceci sucks in a breath, then another. Gigi grows impatient. “I keep thinking about all these… moments between us, and I…” she lets out a huff, eyes wandering anywhere but Cecilia’s face. Gigi’s words prick like thorns, tearing through the porcelain skin. Was it really so hard for Gigi to understand?
Does she not notice the way Cecilia’s stare lingers? The way her cogs turn and twist in discomfort. The way her wind-up key twitches at the thought of Gigi alone. Does Gigi not care? Were those passing glances just that? Cecilia bites her lip. Her eyes fog, a familiar sting toying with her circuits. “Gigi I…”
“You, what?” Gigi persists. “Speak to me, Ceci, please.”
Cecilia stood abruptly. “What do you want me to say?” she blurted out. Her hand rubs her temple. “What do you want to hear, Gigi?” Cecilia sighs. She swallows the lump in her throat. “That all of this means nothing to me? That we’re just friends? That you’re not the first thing I think about when I wake up, and the last before I close my eyes?” She shouted, as if to scare her.
“Ceci, what? What are you—”
“That I want to wake up next you every morning? That I want to pull you in, and whisper sweet nothings in your ear?” Cecilia’s tears stream down her cheeks. Her voice cracking and unsure. “I want to live a life with you. Look at you with no shame clouding my mind.” She confessed, taking a step towards the shorter girl, and then another. “I want you, Gigi.”
