Work Text:
Elena threw open the door to Emilie's room, not even the least bit surprised to find Lando sitting against the pillows with Emilie's feet in his lap and one hand wrapped around the Brazilian-Monégasque's ankles.
He didn't have a shirt on, and then was a hickey on his hip, half-hidden by the waistband of his joggers.
Emilie was lying on her stomach across the bed, only wearing one of the lingerie sets she'd been given with her most recent sponsor partnership. Both were on their phones, only Lando glancing up when the door opened.
"Why would you put that on your story?" Elena asked point blank, not even phased by the Brit in her shared apartment. Absently, she wondered when Emilie had stopped trusting Elena. Elena had to find out from Oscar that Emilie and Lando were dating, with Emilie confusedly tight-lipped about it.
Emilie lifted her feet out of Lando's lap and crossed her ankles, not looking up from her phone. "Aren't you still supposed to be with Oscar?"
Elena narrowed her eyes at the silent implication that Emilie had specifically timed bringing Lando over for when Elena wasn't home. Lando shifted a bit, looking between the sisters as he picked up on the silent omission, too. "Don't change the subject."
Emilie huffed, annoyance clear. "I just told the truth, 's all. Sophia approved it, I can show you the texts."
Lando made a noise, eyes glued to his phone. Clearly, he'd just looked at Emilie's story.
"So you do have a boyfriend."
Emilie finally looked up, giving Elena a little 'duh' motion with her hand.
Lando slid off the bed, "I think I'm gonna g-"
"Sit back down." Elena snapped, leveling the Brit with a look.
Technically he wasn't at fault, but he'd been Elena's friend longer then he'd been Emilie's and he hadn't told her either.
She looked back at Emilie, who looked bemused. It only made Elena more upset.
"Have you told your boyfriend that your fucking Lando?"
Emilie's expression darkened, anger flashing in her amber brown eyes. "I don't cheat on my spouses."
"But you'll lie to me about who you're with." Elena hissed. "I had to find out from Oscar."
Lando's head snapped to Emilie. "You didn't tell her? You told me you told her."
Emilie's expression dropped, and she shifted to look over her shoulder at Lando. "I was going to tell her, but Stuff was going on and I got busy and it-"
"Emilie, you lied to me." Lando stood up, snagging his shirt and wallet. Elena had seen his keys by the door. "I didn't tell Elena because I was letting you tell her. You've literally told me for years that she's your best friend, and yet you just happened to neglect telling her you were dating someone? That's such bullshit."
Emilie sat up fully, panic clear in her voice. "Lando-"
"See you in Vegas."
Silence fell between the sisters as Lando breezed past Elena and out of Emilie's bedroom door, the apartment door slamming shut a few moments later.
"What the fuck is wrong with you?" Elena hissed, truly angry now, even if she felt a little guilty about possibly ruining Emilie's relationship.
"I've been stressed, ok?" Emilie huffed, standing up and pulling on a robe.
Elena scoffed and threw her hands up in the air. "Now, here are some of the excuses. Deal with the damn consequences of your actions."
"They aren't excuses!" Emilie shouted, voice watery. "I have been stressed!"
"Stressed over fucking what?" Elena shouted back. "What on earth could you have to be stressed about?"
"Oh, now you sound like them." Emilie hissed bitterly. Elena's stomach dropped, knowing exactly who they were. Emilie didn't stop talking, though, seemingly unaware of whatever she'd just done to Elena. "And for your information I've almost quit racing over a dozen times in the last 12 months and Christian and Helmut have been up my ass about my racing."
"You almost quit?" Elena asked, her stomach dropping again for very different reasons. "You didn't-"
"I'm an adult and I can make my own decisions without permission from my sister first." Emilie hissed, fully crying now.
Elena was angry all over again at the implication that Elena was controlling, even if she felt the urge to comfort at the sight of her sister's tears.
Elena stepped forward into Emilie's space. "I have never once judged you for your choices in life." She looked distastefully down at what Emilie was wearing and the barely concealed lingerie she was wearing. "Maybe I should have."
Emilie made a wounded noise, eyes widening as she processed Elena's words.
"Get out of my room." The words were so soft and wet that Elena almost missed them.
Almost.
Elena rolled her eyes. "You're such a baby, can't handle it when someone calls you out for your bullshit."
"GET OUT!" Emilie shouted, shoving Elena towards the door with more force than the Spaniard was expecting.
Elena stumbled over the threshold, stunned. For all her talk, Emilie had always been above touching someone to deal with a situation. She stood there stunned as the door slammed shut in her face, the lock clicking a moment later.
A muffled sob cut through the silence a moment later, the sound taking all the fight out of Elena.
---
The sound of sobbing filtered through the wall between the girl's rooms, clear as day.
Emilie stared at the ceiling for a few minutes, worrying her bottom lip between her teeth and fiddled with the pinky ring that matched Elena's as she listened to her sister cry.
A small part of Emilie wanted to leave her room and go comfort her sister. A much larger part was still hurting over Elena's words.
Emilie grabbed her earbuds and put them in, turning her music up loud enough to drown out the sound before rolling over and curling into a ball as she pretended that the tears that started all over again were because of the hurt of her sisters words and not the thought that she'd just ruined the two best relationships in her life all because she'd been scared.
