Chapter Text
ETERNAL SUGAR: “Pavlova, come here.”
PAVLOVA: “Yes, y- you called for me?”
ETERNAL SUGAR: “Of course I did, little one. I wanted to ask you something.”
PAVLOVA: “Okay…”
ETERNAL SUGAR: Sit next to me, please?
[HE SITS.]
ETERNAL SUGAR: “I’ve noticed how you’ve been… distant lately, going out of the garden.”
PAVLOVA: [shivers but nods] mhmm…
ETERNAL SUGAR: “I’m sure it’s nothing much, but I am curious… Are you happy here?”
PAVLOVA: …
ETERNAL SUGAR: “There is no need to lie. I’m not mad, just simply curious is all!”
PAVLOVA: “Of course I’m happy here! T- This garden is where true happiness lies.
ETERNAL SUGAR (smiling): Oh good! I thought I must’ve been doing something wrong! I love you, Pavlova, but there is so much you need to learn.
PAVLOVA: Huh?
ETERNAL SUGAR: You lied to me.
PAVLOVA (nervous): What..? (now angry) I’m being honest, Bringer of Happiness!
ETERNAL SUGAR (happy): Oh! (angry/srs??) But you’re not. (shakes screen) You don’t think I’ve noticed how you’ve acted here versus out there?
PAVLOVA: …
ETERNAL SUGAR (sad): You think poorly of me, don’t you?”
PAVLOVA: I… No, I don’t—
ETERNAL SUGAR: I sacrificed so much of myself just so you can be happy, so that EVERYONE can be happy. It is dangerous out there, Pavlova. That is why I made this garden, to trap away all of the dangers of the world below… but you long for the destruction, the pain, the suffering… Why? Why do you want to leave so badly? I just want you to be safe.
PAVLOVA: …
ETERNAL SUGAR: (crocodile tears) Why do you torture me?
PAVLOVA: Uh…
ETERNAL SUGAR: (she giggled) Don’t be shy now. You weren’t shy exploring the rivers earlier.
PAVLOVA: Um…
ETERNAL SUGAR: You know what? it’s fine!
PAVLOVA: Huh?
ETERNAL SUGAR: If you long for the outside, then go! I will not stop you!
PAVLOVA: I… I don’t think I want to anymore, Bringer of Happiness—
ETERNAL SUGAR (srs): You’re going back down there whether you want to or not.
PAVLOVA: B- But—
ETERNAL SUGAR: Leave. Before I make you. (now sad) I wouldn’t like to hurt you, Pavlova …
PAVLOVA (whimpering): But— But there’s monsters out there! They’ll hurt me!”
ETERNAL SUGAR: And who’s fault is that?
PAVLOVA: … (whispers) mine…
ETERNAL SUGAR: I didn’t hear you. Louder.
PAVLOVA: Mine!
ETERNAL SUGAR: Again, I can’t hear you.
PAVLOVA: IT’S MY FAULT! (he gasped and shivered)
ETERNAL SUGAR: Exactly, I— What’s the matter?
PAVLOVA: My ears… hurt…
ETERNAL SUGAR: Then why were you yelling?
PAVLOVA: I… You told me to!
ETERNAL SUGAR: I did not tell you such. First, you disobey me and now you’re putting words in my mouth? I must say, I am deeply disappointed in you.
PAVLOVA: But you told me to speak louder…
ETERNAL SUGAR: As in to project, I can’t hear you when you mumble. You’ve done more harm to yourself now. Look at what you’ve done. You’re so ungrateful…
PAVLOVA: …
ETERNAL SUGAR: I try and try to protect you, but it seems like you don’t want it… Do you hate me?
PAVLOVA: …
ETERNAL SUGAR: That wasn’t rhetorical, Pavlova. Do you hate me?
PAVLOVA: Y— You know what? (angry) Yes, I do! Not you, but THIS! You’re confusing and mean! I wish you were nice to me and not always trying to fight me! I just want to make you happy, but I can’t when you keep being like this! You’re always so—so mean! I hate it, I hate it, I HATE IT!!!
[PAUSE.]
PAVLOVA (realising what he just said): (gasps)
ETERNAL SUGAR: … Is that truly what you think?
PAVLOVA: (scared) …
ETERNAL SUGAR (upset): The outside has corrupted you for much too long. I may need to reeducate you MYSELF.
PAVLOVA: (trembled at the word ‘reeducate’) ..!
ETERNAL SUGAR: How does that sound?
PAVLOVA: T- Then do it! I’m not scared of you! I’m…
[HE LOOKS UP AT ETERNAL SUGAR, WHO GLARED DOWN AT HIM (seemingly livid)]
PAVLOVA (flying away): AHHH!!! I’M SORRY!!!!
