Work Text:

“So, are you just going to sit there or jump?”

TJ expected a lot of things if someone found him sitting on the edge of a rooftop. Just not Bucky.

"I'm thinking about it,” TJ answered without looking. "What about you? What are you doing here, old man?”

Bucky doesn't answer immediately. He walks closer and sits down beside the younger. Leaving some space between them. Enough space that it's comfortable, not suffocating.

“Martin told me to come get you before you do anything stupid,” The soldier answered.

Bucky turns to him, staying silent for a moment or two before sighing.

“What is it about this time?" He asked.

TJ shakes his head. “The usual stuff.”

"What usual stuff? You have to be more specific than that, kid,” Bucky exasperated.

TJ breathes out a laugh. “My family. That usual stuff."

Silence settles between them for a moment before Bucky turns away and sighs.

“I don't even know why I agreed to get you. Seb should be the one doing this in the first place.” He mutters, shifting in his spot.

TJ bites his lower lip and shakes his head again.

“No, it's alright. You can just.. stay. That's usually what Seb does anyway.” He looks up at the empty night sky.

"You sure?" Bucky asked.

“Yeah." TJ smiles. "Silence is enough sometimes."
