Triumph and Joy

Summary:

A short and fluffy interaction between Ma'in and her coach Chiwa!

Notes:

This thing's been in my drafts for forever so I'm just letting it out now, I don't care

I just wanted to portray a cute little scene of these two :)

Work Text:

TAMM!

Even with the noises of the other skaters around them, the sound of her landing still echoed through the rink. Some “ooh” could be heard from a few impressed onlookers.

Ma’in did a T-stop. After that, she just stood there. Her mind still hadn’t registered what she just did. But she finally landed her double axel+salchow combo. She just did. Did she… really landed it perfectly? At last?

Her initial shock slowly turned into realization, and then joy. She finally did it! She thought. And then–

YEAAHHH!! You did it, Ma’in!!”

She involuntarily let out a yelp. Coach Chiwa’s scream dang near popped Ma’in’s heart out from her chest. He’s been her coach for so long, you’d think she’d get used to this by now.

He slid closer to her. With a facial expression full of glee, he giggled and flailed his arms around and let out a few yippies, as if he just won a lottery himself. It garnered a lot of attention. Ma’in could feel her face getting flushed from embarrasment.

But admittedly, it felt nice to be celebrated like this.

“Ehehe… thanks, coach.”

Seeing her bashful reaction, Chiwa realized that he probably shouldn’t embarrass her any further. He instinctively rubbed his nose and tried to settle down. Even still, he couldn’t wipe the stupidly wide grin from his face.  He then kneeled down to talk to Ma’in at eye level.

“You did it! You landed the combo jump! Now we can work it in our program. You’ll definitely be a strong contender in All-Japans with this, Ma’in!”

Coach Chiwa held both his hands open in front of her, waiting for a hi-five.

Perhaps his infectious enthusiasm got to her, she returned the hi-five with a little “yay!”

Chiwa got up, and started trailing off and talking to himself. About how happy he is, about the hardships they went through to get to this point, about what he should get her as a reward…

Ma’in stared at her coach’s back. He really didn’t need to go that far, Ma’in thought. He’s so easily excitable, sometimes resembling more of a child than a mentor figure. A tad immature perhaps, but ever so supportive, and she wouldn’t want to trade him with anyone else. She was never the confident type, and it’s all thanks to him that she had the courage to stand up on the grand stage on the ice. Her heart flutters with warmth, recalling everything they did together.

“Thanks, coach.”

“Hmm? Did you say something?”

“No, hehe…”
