Work Text:
Sirius nearly goes into cardiac arrest running to the catch the bus to the stadium. Regulus was going to collect shark teeth specifically to bite his head off and drop him on a beach somewhere. And if being late wasn't enough, Sirius was fucking freezing. He left his dorm with nothing but his wallet but that's only because his keycard was in it. He's at the front of the bus eyes locked onto the clock on the dashboard like that's going to turn back time and get him there 30 minutes earlier. Sirius' leg is bouncing under his thin plaid maroon pants that are already starting to glue themselves to his skin. The back of his ankle is chaffing on his doc martens since he's not even wearing socks. He feels like an iceberg and he knows he looks like one 'cause he saw a random lady stare at his nipple print through his red hoodie.
When he gets there Sirius practically flies off the bus and sprints head first into what was snow but is now hail and what feels like tropical storm level winds. When he finally does get inside the stadium doors he slams himself against the concrete and cracks maybe everything in his spine. His legs move like chattering teeth on the morning after hate sex with your ex/nemesis. He'll fall ass forward before he even makes it to his seat at this point.
He spends 10 pointless minutes trying to dry his pajama pants with the hand dryer in the bathroom. Then a literal child of about 9 years old, comes out of a stall behind him, pauses, getting basically a face full of Sirius' barely clothed ass.
The kid sidesteps him and stops when his hands hover over the sink. Then he closes his eyes and takes a deep breath. When his eyes open wide and the kid tilts his head slightly and pulls his mouth taut like he's so done with life and half naked college students in public bathrooms. "What is it with this generation? Are men just whoring themselves nowadays?" he hears the kid mutter as he walks out.
When the door clicks after him and Sirius takes it as a sign to put back on his wet pjs and go to the gift shop. He wobbles over and he's never been happier that Sanrio has infiltrated absolutely everything in society. There's black sweatpants with Kuromi printed in random places. He buys it, gets a plastic bag and wobbles back to the bathroom.
Sirius finally makes it to his row, still very visibly soaked from head to waist. He looks like an electrocuted, wet cat and he has to step over and pass annoyed middle aged men and women, college zombies and hockey enthousiasts until he stops in his tracks when he realises there's a gorgeous curly blonde man right next to his empty chair. The girl he's blocking is yelling at him to move so she can see but he can't hear her. She ends up shoving him toward his seat but he falls onto Rapunzel by accident.
Their skulls rattle against each other and Sirius stutters over a thousand sorrys as the guy gently grabs his forearm and guides him into sitting down. Rapunzel holds his head like Sirius just made an earthquake of a headache, "It's fine. I promise." When he squints at Sirius it's like his eyes glinted bright purple but it was there for less than a second. Which must be wrong because the guy has gorgeous sunflower eyes. The centers hazel and golden and stretching like suns around his irises and gardens of green around them.
"Hi."
"Hi."
"Why is your hoodie soaking wet?" Rapunzel pulls his hand away and rubs it off on his thigh and shoves them back in his jacket to warm up again.
"Strangest thing. I ran off the bus and yetti's started throwing a million tiny snow balls at me." Why did I say that I sound insane. He doesn't even know I'm just a drama queen and not actually off the rails. Blondie's laugh breaks through his internal monologuing pyschosis and it's teeth rottingly saccharine.
"Well, since you look like seaweed slapped you in the face, I take it the yetis don't like you very much."
"I'll have you know that's very rude to say to someone you just met."
The guy just grins back at Sirius with a very unserious nod, "Oh, is it? Even if I have a basis for saying it?"
This guy. Still Sirius grins back at him, "That depends. What's your foundation?"
Rapunzel reaches over and gathers Sirius' long black hair, mid-back probably, curly an- I'm lying for ambience, he looks like a wet cat. Blondie takes all his hair in both hands and twists it like a drenched kitchen rag. The waterfall coming from it is undeniable and the sounds would echo comically if the stadium wasn't full of people.
Sirius' eyes close and he licks his lips and pinches them, nodding his head. He sucks his lips in, still nodding before he can give in and laugh.
The guy turns back to face the ice and shrugs, soft and satisfied smile on his lips. "That was more of a demonstration but I think I get extra points for creativity."
Sirius licks his lips and tries to speak through his woodpecker chattering teeth, "I'm pretty you were supposed to explain in words so you fail this one, Goldilocks."
"Philosophers say actions speak louder than words so in reality I win."
"Fuck philosophy."
Blondie snorts and covers his mouth, wheezing. His eyes squint and he shakes sporadically, full on snickering. Sirius sits and watches him through the corner of his eye before he starts to look for Regulus as the second period ends. He locks eyes with Reggie who squints at him and shakes his head, mouthing to ask who the blonde guy is. Only for Sirius to turn bright red and shake his head with a strong shiver that just looks more like he's twitching.
"Don't like questions? Got something you're hiding?"
Sirius tilts his head to look at Marilyn whose name he still doesn't know. Gives a small smile with his teeth still chattering but has to immediately look away. Unless he actually wants to go into shock from the sharp contrast between his oncoming pneumonia and the way this guy is jumping on his trampoline heart. When he locks eyes with Reg again, he's taking a call and wearing a very suspicious grin.
"You alright there James Farrow?"
"I think you should be arrested for making that reference. I'm surprised that's the book you're referencing. I'm more historically iconic like.. Oscar Wilde." The guy actually giggles leaning into his space. "It's not Farrow, it's Black. Sirius."
"Okay. Take off your hoodie." Sirius' eyes slowly open wide like SpongeBob under a fish eye filter. Now, actually, baffled for words he stumbles over his words while Blondie takes off his own jacket then sweater. When he peels his huge, thick, sweater off Sirius expects to see a flash of skin but t'was not to be. Alas, layers, the number one cockblock of the century. He hands Sirius a soft, lavender sweater and slips his jacket back on.
"Thank you but I'm not sure I should be stripping in front of someone I just met. Definitely not in a public setting, indecency and all that. Especially if I haven't actually met them. Most especially if I'm naked under this."
Rapunzel just points to the tag on the sweater. Sirius pulls it up to his face like he's a nearsighted teenager who refuses to get glasses. Except now he's a nearsighted college student who refuses to get glasses. Grant Chapman it reads in swirling letters.
So you make your own clothes and you're making me strip for you even though I only met you five minutes ago.
Sirius thinks while he looks at Grant. A blonde guy with a crooked smile. Who gets his humour and called him James Farrow because he looks like a drenched rat. Who's not afraid to make a joke about a stranger he just met. Who's curious and has eyes like golden sunflowers.
Yup. Guess I'm stripping.
Grant's sweater smells like coconut and sugar. It feels like sanctuary from the Ice Queen of Narnia. Grant's being shaken by one of his friends next to him and then his head does a sharp turn to the screen near the ceiling. Grant's on the kiss cam. Grant's on the kiss cam with Sirius.
Sirius looks for Regulus and fair enough it was all his doing if you're going by the way he's grinning like a cheshire. Sirius Black would murder Barty Crouch Jr. and no one would ever know. He looks back to Grant who then leans over and kisses his cheek that lasts maybe five seconds but feels like a lifetime.
His heart launches like a rocket breaking right through a carnival high strike machine. Sirius quickly realises that for once he might actually be terrified to like someone. To want to like someone like Grant; it feels as though its never been so easy.
Grant who sits back in his seat with blush high on his cheeks like a dahlia.
Grant who's eyes go wide when Sirius grabs his face and kisses him like he's delicate.
Grant who's heart Sirius can feel flutter like a hummingbird between them.
Grant who smiles into the kiss and pulls away, ducking his head to hide from the cameras while Sirius winks at them.
Rapunzel is all but swallowed by his chair when his friend sitting cross-legged in the seat next to him hovers over his face. "Finally got your hockey romance did you? I thought you said swooning was 'fake as the notion that Elizabeth Bennett was brave and not arrogant'. To paraphrase." Grant's eyes went wide like he was millimetres away from strangling his friend. Probably 'cause a good friend shouldn't be going round telling potential love interests your controversial thoughts that might be deal-breakers. Grant just turns his head to smile tightly at Sirius as if nothing happened.
"You're quite the looker aren't you." The friend sticks his hand out, he has a brilliant smile and light freckles all over. "Tomny."
Sirius shakes his hand and Tomny asks, "So, when's the wedding?"
Sirius looks down at Grant blushing and speechless. Grant's lips quirk up, "Still strangers?"
