Work Text:
Lucy and Grey go to find both Tim and Penn who are working on their paperwork. Tim sees them walk over with grins on their faces. “I don’t like the look on either of your faces.” Tim knows his wife and he knows that she has roped Grey into something. He also knows she’s about to ask them for something.
Lucy puts her hands on her hips. “Don’t even try to deny it. This is your favorite smile.” She knows that she’s right and Tim immediately softens, but they’re still both wary of her look.
“Mmm, I don’t think there’s a look I don’t like.” Grey clears his throat and Tim goes red.
“Anyways.” She rolls her eyes. “There’s an event coming up that you two are going to help with.” Tim and Penn each share a look with each other. It’s not what either of them were expecting.
“And what is that?” Tim finally asks. It’s not like he can say no, especially to Lucy.
She grins and claps her hands together. “It’s going to be great! It’s an event at one of the local donut shops.” Now Tim and Penn are even more confused. “It’s called Cops on a Rooftop.”
“You want me to stand on the roof of a donut shop?” Tim raises his eyebrows at her. “Lucy.”
She crosses her arms. “Can I at least finish?” He nods. “It’s for a good cause. It’s to raise money to help sick kids for the children’s hospital. Every person who donates will get a free coffee or donut.”
As soon as Tim hears what it’s for, he knows that he can’t say no. “When is it?”
“Tomorrow.” She claps her hands together and neither men say anything. “Thank you.” Tim wants nothing more than to pull her to him and kiss her.
Penn speaks and startles them both out of their bubble. “Just text us the details and we are more than happy to help. Will you be making an appearance?”
“Of course I will be there, Officer Penn.” Lucy says as if it’s the most obvious thing in the world.
Grey is trying not to chuckle. “And sir, you will be making an appearance as well.” No one can say no to Lucy so of course he agrees.
“Perfect, we will all meet there at seven tomorrow morning. Details will be sent to your phone.” She kisses Tim’s cheek and walks away.
“Someone’s become quite bossy.” Penn teases and for some reason Tim goes red. “Maybe you like it.”
“Shut up.” He tells Penn although there’s nothing malicious in his voice. They’ve come a long way since they first met. “She definitely knows how to get us to do what she wants.”
Penn has to stifle a laugh. Lucy is now the Watch Commander, which doesn’t surprise anyone. She has come so far and both Grey and Tim are proud of her.
Not even thirty minutes later, Lucy had sent all the details over. The day went by smoothly and thankfully it was not too busy. Tim was grateful because tomorrow would be pretty crazy. These events for the LAPD could get busy and intense sometimes. He shudders thinking about the last one he did. It was raffling him off for a date and Lucy made sure to bid as high as possible for it. It was pretty heated until she finally won.
“You love bossing me into things, don’t you?” Lucy feels Tim’s hands wrap around her waist when they get home later that night. He can feel her start to giggle.
“And you love when I boss you into things.” She retorts back to him. Tim’s lips find her neck and she moves so that he has better access. Lucy feels Tim’s hands move further down and he moves them to their bedroom.
They’re out of the house by six thirty the next morning and head to the coffee shop. This cause is important to her because she was sick as a kid and of course her parents were never there to support her. It’s hard to be a kid stuck in the hospital and she just wants to help however she can.
“You know I appreciate you helping with this right?” Lucy looks over at Tim.
He smiles at her and takes her hand in his. “Of course I know that. It’s a good cause and I know why you’re doing it. Just something else to make me fall even more in love with you.”
“My big softy.” Lucy runs her fingers along his own. He parks the truck and looks over at her before getting out. She pulls him in for a kiss that leaves them both breathless.
The workers and manager are excited for this event. “Hello Sergeant Chen.” Tim watches Lucy.
“Hello again, Anna. This is Sergeant Tim Bradford and he will be helping to work this event.” She smiles at Tim.
Anna reaches out to shake his hand. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Tim. I’ve heard a lot about you. We appreciate you helping out today.”
Lucy feels Tim hovering behind her. “It’s my pleasure. Is there anything that I can help set up?”
“Not right now. You and your fellow officers will go up on the roof around eight. We will even have some music playing. Maybe you can bring more business by dancing.” This causes Lucy to burst out laughing.
“Don’t get any ideas.” He grins at Lucy and he already knows that he will end up dancing.
Penn arrives not too long afterwards and Tim is surprised when he sees Aaron also show up. “Aaron?”
“Hey.” Tim’s confused. “Lucy asked me nicely and you know how hard it is to say no to her.”
Tim shakes his head chuckling. “Don’t I know it. I’m glad you’re doing this with us.” Miles walks over. “Miles, this is Aaron Thorsen. He worked at Mid-Wilshire before transferring to North Hollywood. He is a good friend.”
The two men shake hands. “I’ve heard nothing but great things about you. It’s nice to finally meet you.” Miles smiles at Aaron.
“You too.” Before they can continue on, the event is ready to start. Tim gives Lucy a quick kiss before heading to his designated spot. Lucy made them poster boards to hold up as well.
The line for tye donut shop is already wrapped around the building and donations have already started coming in.
Grey shows up about an hour later and Lucy’s already raised over a thousand dollars. A few businesses pledged larger donations as well and she didn’t expect so much traction on this. “Lieutenant.” Lucy crosses her arms and stands by his side.
“You’ve done a wonderful job here today.” Grey is proud of her, although he usually is.
“Thank you, sir.” The music goes louder and they hear people whistling. All three are being good sports about this.
Angela is one of the ones who is whistling. “Looking good gentlemen.”
Tim rolls his eyes and Aaron speaks. “We’re here to provide you entertainment.”
Angela and Lucy both giggle. “We should put a new song on.” Grey doesn’t even want to know what they are about to play.
Suddenly the song Daddy Cop comes over the loudspeaker and Lucy bursts out laughing. “Oh my god. This is so good.” She looks at Tim and she’s chewing her lip. “Show us your moves, Bradford.” She yells at him and he sees her grinning.
Of course he indulges his wife and a few cars honk their horns. Lucy goes to make a donation and then gets her free coffee. She purchases donuts for everyone from the station as well. “Thanks for the donuts.”
Tim takes a break and comes down to see her. “How are you doing up there babe?” Lucy is grinning at him.
“It’s actually fun. I’m a bit thirsty and hungry though. I could have done without that song.” Lucy bursts out laughing.
“Would it be better if I had serenaded you with it?” Tim groans out, knowing that Lucy would serenade him wearing little to no clothing. He just can’t even get enough of her.
Tim moves his lips closer to her ears. “If I’m good today, do you promise to do that later?”
Lucy taps her chin. “All you have to do is ask nicely.” She nudges him to go back and he knows that she is planning something.
Another few hours go by and she is very happy with how successful this has been. Lucy takes a microphone and starts a speech. “I just want to thank everyone for coming today and for all the donations that we have raised so far.” Everyone starts clapping and of course Tim is the loudest. “We are all eternally grateful for all of you. Let’s give a huge shout out to the cops who have been helping us today.”
Lucy smiles and she is very thankful for the help from everyone during this event. It finishes an hour later and she is shocked by the amount of money that has been raised. Between the help of customers, multiple businesses, and the LAPD, they are at just over ten thousand dollars. Lucy once again thanks the manager before everyone helps to clean up.
Tim drives them home. “That went pretty well today.” Lucy looks over at him.
“It went much better than expected. Thank you for being a good sport and indulging me.”
Tim rubs soothing circles on her leg. “I was more than happy to help out. I love you.”
“I love you too baby.” Lucy looks at her husband and then leans back into her seat.
As promised, Lucy did serenade him that night, something that she loves to do. Her greatest joy was presenting the check to the children’s hospital. She knew it would go to good use. As always, Tim is the proud husband and willing to participate in any event she brings to him. He even played Santa that year at the hospital and the station. “Thank you for always indulging me.”
”Always Luce. Besides, it’s kind of fun.” She kisses him hard and drags him to the bedroom, Santa hat and all.
