Chapter 1

The case of Draco Malfoy is controversial for two reasons. First, he was a juvenile when he received the Dark Mark, a result of Voldemort’s threat to kill his parents. Second, he spared the Golden Trio’s lives at Malfoy Manor by not identifying them. These reasons have sparked mixed feelings about young Malfoy in the wizarding world, with many calling for his execution. The Order of the Phoenix views him as a murderer and a Death Eater, while pure-blood families see him as a traitor.

Minister of Magic, Kingsley Shacklebolt, addressed the court, “Thank you for attending this trial.” As the highly anticipated trial began, various individuals presented their thoughts and suggestions to the Wizengamot regarding Malfoy’s fate. “I think we should sentence him to the Dementor’s Kiss,” one member suggested. “But that’s injustice!” another protested. “What about 20 years in Azkaban?” someone proposed, to which the Minister replied, “That can be considered.

Just as it seemed everyone wanted Malfoy to face severe punishment or death, a young woman’s voice rang out from the crowd. “I want to defend Mr. Malfoy.” The voice belonged to a 25-year-old woman with black hair and an aura of confidence. She stepped forward, repeating her statement. "I want to defend Mr. Malfoy.”

The Minister asked, "Who are you, miss, and why do you want to defend Mr. Malfoy? Please introduce yourself.” She smiled, scanning the room with her dark pupils before responding, “My name is Maya Roger. I studied law in the USA, and I want to defend Mr. Malfoy in his trial today.” The courtroom was perplexed; nobody knew who she was, not even Malfoy himself. He had never met her and was confused about why anyone would want to save him from his seemingly inevitable fate.”

Maya presented facts from Mr. Malfoy's case and invited witnesses to testify. First, she called Narcissa Malfoy, Draco's mother. "Mrs. Malfoy, is it true that your son never wanted to become a Death Eater?" Maya asked. "Yes, that's true," Narcissa replied.

Maya continued, "Can you explain why Mr. Malfoy took the Dark Mark and was ready to kill Albus Dumbledore, the former Headmaster of Hogwarts?" Narcissa's voice trembled as she replied, "Because my husband, Lucius, was in Azkaban, and my son and I were held hostage by the Dark Lord's followers. They used the Cruciatus Curse on Draco twenty times that summer... If they had used it a few more times, it would have driven him insane."

Narcissa paused, holding back tears. "But my sister, Bellatrix, came with an offer that changed my son's life forever." Maya asked, "What would have happened if Mr. Malfoy refused to take the Dark Mark?" Narcissa replied, "We would have both been killed."

A Wizengamot member interrupted, "Miss Roger, this is all emotional manipulation. We need evidence and witnesses, not sentimentality." Maya responded sharply, "I understand, Mr. Host, but it is a valid defence if someone commits a crime under duress and threat."

Maya presented her next witness, Luna Lovegood. "Miss Lovegood, did you ever get a chance to escape before Harry Potter rescued you?" Maya asked. Luna replied, "Yes, I had two chances, but Bellatrix Lestrange caught me both times." Maya asked, "And what happened then?" Luna replied, "Draco asked Bellatrix to punish me, but instead of punishing me, he just put me back in the dungeons."

Mr. Wood interrupted, "What are you trying to prove, Miss Roger?" Maya replied calmly, "The charges against Mr. Malfoy, that he used unforgivable curses and brutality on prisoners in Malfoy Manor during the war, can be dropped after Miss Lovegood's confession that Mr. Malfoy did not punish prisoners or use unforgivable curses on them."

After testimony from Dean Thomas and Ollivander, who were also prisoners in Malfoy Manor, it was confirmed that Draco Malfoy had not tortured prisoners during the war. Draco was confused about Maya's efforts and how she knew about these incidents, which only he and the prisoners he saved were aware of.

As the trial continued, Theodore Nott, Draco's friend, testified about how Draco had saved him from getting the Dark Mark by advising him not to go home for Christmas break. Maya asked, "Why didn't he want you to go home that Christmas?" Theodore replied, "Because my father wanted me to take the Dark Mark and complete Draco's work, which he couldn't do until then."

Blaise Zabini testified about how Draco had saved Slytherin students during the last battle by helping them leave Hogwarts and protecting younger students from brutal Death Eater attacks.

As the trial concluded, Maya presented her final witness, Harry Potter, the Boy Who Lived. The courtroom erupted in shock and disbelief that Harry, the survivor of the wizarding world, was defending a Death Eater. The audience was speechless.

When Harry arrived in court, everyone was in disbelief. The one who had fought against Voldemort his whole life was protecting a follower of the Dark Lord. Nobody knew why he was there. Maya Roger locked eyes with Harry Potter and nodded, gesturing for him to take his place to testify.

“So, Mr. Potter, thank you for coming on my request to tell everyone about the truth of Albus Dumbledore’s murder,” said Maya Roger. “That night, Headmaster Dumbledore took me on a Horcrux hunt. We searched for Salazar Slytherin’s locket, which Voldemort had converted into a Horcrux, making him immortal.”

After listening to this information, the Wizengamot was speechless and in disbelief. Harry then shared his entire Horcrux hunt story with everyone and revealed the master plan of Headmaster Dumbledore, which ended with his sacrifice.

“So, you’re saying Dumbledore wanted your death, and you’re just a piece of his plan?” Maya asked.

“No, that’s not what I’m saying,” Harry replied. “Dumbledore was a great wizard; don’t portray him in darkness,” Harry warned Maya.

Maya calmly asked, “Don’t get me wrong, Mr. Potter, but you’re not getting to the point about that night when Dumbledore got killed. Half the people think it was Draco, and half think it was former Headmaster Snape, after your accusation, if I’m not wrong.”

“That night, Dumbledore was killed by Snape,” Harry said. “Malfoy only disarmed him and was too scared to kill Dumbledore, but he’s the one who let the Death Eaters enter Hogwarts. He should get punished.”

After hours of discussion and debate, the Wizengamot delivered their verdict: Draco Malfoy was found not guilty of murder, torture, kidnapping, and using unforgivable curses but guilty of aiding Voldemort and crimes during the war.

“What does this mean?” Maya asked sharply.

“It means, Miss Roger, that you may have saved Mr. Malfoy from the Dementor’s Kiss and a sentence in Azkaban, but he did aid Voldemort and is indirectly responsible for the death of people,” the minister explained.

Draco received a wand ban for one year and a fine of 200,000 galleons. He was also not allowed to return to Hogwarts, as he had been expelled the previous year.

Maya protested, “But, sir, you can’t stop someone from getting an education. It’s a violation of human rights.”

The minister replied sharply, “I think only people in your country allow criminals in their schools, Miss Roger, but not in ours.”

The case ended, but people were unhappy that Draco had gotten off lightly. That day, Maya Roger made many enemies, but she didn’t care, as justice had been served without discrimination. Draco himself was confused, unsure what to do next, as the whole wizarding world hated him, and he couldn't return to Hogwarts.

“You should be happy,” Maya said to Draco.

“Why?” he asked.

“Why did you save me? Who are you? Don’t tell me you’re Maya Rogers because I know her personally. You can fool the whole world, but not me. Maya Roger died in front of me last year. You may look like her, but you can’t be her. The world may not know about her death, but I do. Tell me who you are,” Draco asked furiously.

“That’s for me to know and you to find out,” she winked at him before apparating from the Ministry. Draco was shocked, as apparating from inside the Ministry was impossible for wizards and witches.
