Chapter Text
[Lloyd’s POV]
The Destiny’s Bounty drifted a little off the coast of Ninjago City. I stood on the deck leaning against the railing. The wind was nice today and the air was humid, overall, pretty nice day despite the clouds. Zane and Jay were playing chess (Jay was losing badly), Nya was busy with repairs on the motors, I had no idea where Kai and Cole went, and Pix was on monitor duty.
“And checkmate.” Zane said as he put down his chess piece.
“What?! Aw come on. I was so close..” Jay wined.
“You were not.”
Jay rolled his eyes and they reset the game.
Then it started raining. Only a little bit at first so I thought nothing of it, but it quickly got worse. To stay at least the slightest bit dry, we all had to go up to the covered part of the deck.
Nya came up from the engine room. “Any idea when this’ll let up, Pixel?” she asked with a twinge of worry as waves began rocking the boat.
“I do not know. The storm is scheduled to get better, but weather can be very unpredictable.” Pix responded while typing some stuff into the keyboard, “It would be best to return to shore.”
“On it.”
As I looked up at the clouds, thunder shook the sky. The wind was picking up and the waves were getting worse; we didn’t have much time. “Pixel, Nya, and I can man the ship, everyone else get below deck. We don’t need anyone getting hurt.” Zane said.
With a nod from Kai (who I honestly hadn’t noticed had come up) the rest of us headed below to keep out of the rain and ya know not fall off and drown. I don’t particularly feel like doing that.
We waited for the storm to pass in silence, or as silent as it could be when it sounded like there was the grim reaper outside. It felt like this was lasting forever. I did my best to hold onto part of a door to keep myself from being thrown across the hallway. I hadn’t seen (non-magical) weather this bad since I was little. How had nobody known about it? Shouldn’t there have been some sort of warning that someone would’ve noticed?
The ship rocked so much I felt sick, and the thundering overhead wasn’t helping. So basically, unlike what Pix said, the storm was not at all getting better. Lovely. We love that. This is fantastic, I don’t know what you mean.
There was a loud thud from the upper deck. “What’s happening out there? SHI-!” Jay yelled as the ship rocked again throwing him at the other wall.
“I’ll go check!” I responded, trying my best to keep balance as I ran up the stair. Someone behind me called my name but I ignored them. I threw open the door and it hit the wall with a bang.
It was raining so hard it hurt to stand under it. The clouds blocked out the sky so much it looked like hours had gone by. Flashes of light went off far enough to be safe, but they were getting uncomfortably close.
“Lloyd, what are you doing up here?!” I heard Nya exclaim under the noise.
I tried to move but the ship rocked, making me fall hard to wood deck. With some difficulty I got back up.
Nya was trying her best to steer the ship but it wasn’t really doing much. Pixel and Zane were holding onto the upper railing like a life line. I have to do something. Water splashed under my feet as I ran toward them. I had no idea what I was going to do but I needed to do help somehow. Couldn’t just stand here and be useless.
I only got to the side stairs before something slammed my side. I stumbled backwards, falling against the railing. The rain was so bad I could barely see. Last thing I remember was the sound of the mast cracking.
