Captain sat in the water, arms resting on the ground, staring at the majestic tree of life. It was a sight to behold, a breathtaking marvel that had created land’s hero. The tree stood tall and proud, the three triangles shining brightly at the smiling sun. The air was filled with the faint scent of salt, mingling with the earthy aroma carried by the gentle breeze. Captain felt a deep sense of awe and wonder as they gazed upon it, lost in thought. Their reflection shimmered in the rippling water, merging with the golden hues of the setting sun.
Suddenly, they felt a gentle tap on their shoulder. Initially dismissing it as a leaf or a pebble, they didn’t pay much attention. But then there was another tap, and another.
“Hey!” Heli practically shouted, floating beside Captain, who snapped out of their trance with a start. In their surprise, Captain accidentally splashed water in Heli’s face. The droplets sparkled like tiny crystals against the fading light.
“Ah! Sorry, I didn’t notice you,” Captain apologized, a sheepish grin spreading across their face.
“Nah, it’s alright,” Heli reassured, wiping the water from her eyes with a playful laugh. “Did you not notice me tapping at your shoulder and basically flying right next to you? You really are kinda oblivious.”
“Ha, are you mocking me?” Captain teased, a hint of amusement in their voice.
“Nope, not at all. If anything, it’s a little cute to me,” Heli replied, her cheeks tinged with a faint blush. The pink hue contrasted beautifully with the twilight sky.
Cute? Captain stared at the floating girl for a few seconds, trying to process her words. Heli, realizing she might have said too much, quickly added, “I mean, like, in a platonic way, obviously. Unless you don’t want it to.”
Captain moved a little closer to Heli, leaning in a bit, and had a small grin. Not a mischievous one, but more of an innocent one. “It’s alright, I wouldn’t mind either way,” they said softly.
“Really now?” Heli asked, her curiosity piqued. Was this some sort of joke or was this genuine? She couldn’t tell.
That wasn’t until Captain hugged Heli and pulled her close, her feet nearly touching the blue water. The warmth of Captain’s embrace contrasted with the coolness of the water, sending a shiver down Heli’s spine.
“Really,” Captain told her, their voice filled with sincerity. They leaned in further, gently placing a small kiss on Heli’s cheek. Heli blushed and pulled back, clearly flustered, her heart racing with a mix of emotions. She glanced at Captain, their eyes reflecting the same vulnerability and excitement she felt.
It was a while before either of them said anything, and when they did, it was Heli who spoke first.
“So, what are we now? Are we dating or…?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper, the words slipping out like fragile bubbles.
“Do you want to?” Captain replied, their eyes meeting Heli’s with a hopeful gaze. The world seemed to pause, the only sounds being the gentle lapping of water and the distant call of the birds in the distance.
“Damn right I do,” Heli answered, a bright smile spreading across her face. She reached for Captain’s hand, their fingers intertwining effortlessly. They sat there in comfortable silence, the universe around them vast yet intimate, as if the tree of life above had blessed their newfound connection.
