Work Text:
It was a calm, cool, refreshing day of summer in the gorgeous city of Ragunna. Residents were walking to the yearly market festival, where lots of tasty treats, condiments, seasonings, items and more can be bought and sold for great prices. Carlotta had invited the Rover to the annual festival as a time to share their recent travel stories. They were ready to take a calm day off with each other.. and they could finally relax in peace without any disturbances..
"I heard from Phoebe of the Acolytes you've been having fun around Rinascita, recently?" Carlotta said, a smirk forming on her pale face. "It's sad that we don't get to spend as much time together as before, but I digress, dear Rover."
The two walked into the market anticipating what kind of treats or trinkets may lay inside of the colorful stalls on the streets. Sunshine beaming down on the hard bricked floors of the streets in the main area. The wind from the beach was blowing in the air, leaving a fresh smell of sea salt and cocktails. Carlotta enjoyed seeing Rovers reaction to the strange and obscene objects that were for sale that day, in her head, it appeared as if they were a baby, fascinated at the sights of Ragunna. However, Carlotta's cold, icy eyes were drawn to something. Was it an echo? An onlooker.. or, was it an assassin..
Carlotta had dealt with her fair share of them, people who work to murder those, whether for money, or for reputation status..
In her head: "Carlotta.. just enjoy the day, getting distracted with things that may just be hallucinations was a bad idea, and she was enjoying a day getaway from her usual work. She just needed to focus.. focus.. calm down.. you've done this before, it's not like something would actually happen.. right? No, it wouldn't.. Carlotta, calm yourself.."
Her footsteps hardened, louder as she tensed up, her eyes flickering from the suspicious figure, and her dear precious Rover. Suddenly, it moved, creeping towards an old lady's vintage clock stand. It walked, then sped up, then ran, but as it pulled out the knife from it's back pocket..
A gun shot..
Dead Silence..
The crowds of people all gasped, as the Montelli girl stood up, her white hair billowing in the fresh air. Her face told more than her body language.. A stern, hard stare, of pure anger and disgust.. The bullet bounced of the thief's blade.
In Carlotta's right hand, her crystalline gun.. a bullet wasted on a measly thieve trying to take scraps from innocent elders.
"I knew you people were bad, but I never expect you to go this low." Carlotta rose from the ground, her heels clicking as she stood up firmly. "I knew you were suspicious from the moment I caught you onlooking from behind the apothecary. It's a shame you won't even manage to take something before you're dead."
And before the thief knew it..
A second gun shot.. this time, it never bounced or missed.
The bullet was lodged directly in the thieves throat. He choked and squirmed, attempting to remove it before he lost all oxygen, blood pouring out in huge puddles, torn flesh floating in them. The man had died, and never retrieved a single thing from the selection. It was calm for about 10 seconds, until..
"CARLOTTA! WATCH OUT!" Rover called from behind her.
She turned around swiftly, dodging the attack by an inch. She shot another glacial bullet from her gun, hitting the next thief's stomach, blood splattering on her freshly cleaned dress. That was when they all started arriving, from all directions, charging at Carlotta with deep hatred and lust for murder. The Montelli was surprised at how engrossed they were in their attempts to kill her.
She shot them all, firing with deep swiftness, her gun vibrating with every bullet. Rover started attacking as well for support, as they didn't want Carlotta facing it on her own. One thief pounced on Rover, pinning them down. Carlotta saw red in that moment. She sped up, running, landing on the thieves back, crushing his spine with her pointed heel.
"This'll make you learn not to mess with a Montelli's friend." She said with deep hatred. "Punishment is a fair game to the likes of your kind.."
She shot a bullet to the back of his head.
His blood squirted off and onto her new heels, staining them. She shoved his body aside.
The thieves kept coming, attacking from all angles. She couldn't keep up with all of them at once, panicking her much more than she'd actually like to admit. Her legs gave in finally, her body collapsing from exhaustion. Rover noticed her, and grabbed her hand, holding it tightly.
"My dear Rover.. I'm sorry." Carlotta lifted Rovers hand, and kissed it gently, wiping her red pigmented lipstick on it. "Promise me that you'll take me out after you finish them..? I know you'll succeed."
Her eyes closed, falling into a deep sleep.
Rover pulled their sword out, aero aurora surrounding them symbolising deep dominance and dedication in successfully managing to beat the thieves. Their sword hit hard, igniting sparks as the metal hit a thieves revolver.
"You prick." Rover slammed their boot into his face smashing his face inwards leaving him dead on the hard ground.
After a few hours of fighting, the once lively streets were quiet. Bodies lay on the floor in cold pools of blood. Rover stood, carrying Carlotta's calm and exhausted body.
"I suppose you won.. My dear Rover..?" Carlotta spoke barely above a whisper.. "Great job.. I knew you would succeed.." She smirked up at them.
"Let's worry about getting you home and not being injured, Carlotta. I don't want you to be hurt." Rover spoke with sincere care and worry in their voice.
What a caring person my dear Rover was. They were always prepared to take care of someone.. and I'm forever utmost thankful for their sacrifice for all of Rinascita. While I may not show affection like a married couple does, my dear Rover was the most important treasure of mine.
...
I wish I could have helped that day.
"Thank you, Rover. For taking care of me." Carlotta said, laying a bouquet of flowers on a gravestone. "I hope your eternal rest is well." She smiled, before walking away quietly into the dark rainy night.
