Work Text:
Po got woken up by the loud ringing of his alarm on his phone, he grumbled, took his phone then turned the alarm off only to roll back and closed his eyes again. Off to a more slumber.
That got immediately interrupted when he heard a ding on his phone.
“Fuck, what is it now?” he asked himself then picks up the phone.
Earn ❤️🩹
hey, babe? can i call u? have to tell u something important
It reads, and before he could even type, his phone rang with his boyfriend calling. Though he's annoyed, he smiled at himself before picking up the call.
“Hey, babe? What is it?” he greeted.
“Hey... Uh, please don't be mad,” Earn started, Po frowned, “What did you do now?” he said, voice laced with suspicions.
“I did nothing! I just... have to tell you this, I'm sorry I had to tell you this while on the phone, but I have to.” and with that, Po's heart sank. He knows deep down what his boyfriend might say but he just hummed, urging Earn to continue.
“Po, I'm sorry. I— We have to break up.” and that was it, Po froze. He knew it was coming, but it still broke him.
“Why?... Why do this? What, did you found someone else? Someone better?” he rambled, sitting up now.
“What? No! No, it's just... my job requires me to, well, be available. I know it sounds ridiculous but, trust me! I don't want to do this either.” Earn reasoned out, Po scoffed.
“Oh, please. What type of work requires that? And if you don't wanna do this, why the fuck are you doing it then? Just tell me you cheated on someone or whatever, fuck off. We're done.” he said then ended the call, throwing his phone on the bed.
He can't even be sad, because who the fuck does Earn thinks he is? A job that requires you to be single? Does he really think I'm that dumb? He thought to himself then went in the shower.
Once he had gotten out of the shower, he put on some clothes—black trousers, a normal white top topped with a brown jacket—then after he's done putting on his clothes, he took his phone then dialed Baifern's number.
“What now?” Baifern greeted, seemingly tired.
“Oh, are you busy?” he asked, “Yeah, actually. Why?” Baifern said, Est just sighed.
“Nothing, nevermind.” he did not let Baifern reply and ended the call, he knows Baifern would ask a lot of questions, and he's too tired for that.
So he did what was reasonable; he goes to a bar alone. Ready to drink his feelings away.
When he first stepped into the bar, he immediately got hit by the smell of sweat mixed with alcohol, the bar was loud and packed with people. He considers just going to another bar but it was too late, he's already in.
He sat in the bar counter, next to an old man drank out of his being, looking like he's making out with his gin.
“What would you like, gentleman?” a voice said, Po looked up and saw, maybe, the most gorgeous man he had ever met.
“Oh, uh, an espresso martini might be good,” he stammered but he made it out, the bartender chuckled lightly before nodding, “Coming right up.”
The bartender turned away for a second before turning back at him.
“What's your name?” he asked, Po blinked before answering.
“It's Po,” he said, “Did not know I walked into a café.” he added, the bartender laughed before turning away to make the drink.
He was scrolling on his phone when the bartender leaned in on the table.
“Here's your drink, Po.” he said, sliding the drink to him. Po raised a brow before taking a sip.
“Hm, it's good,“ he said, looking up, “What's your name?” he asked, bluntly. There was a flicker in the bartender's eyes before opening his mouth.
“It's Thame, you can call me Thame.”
“Okay... Thame,” he said, shyly. Thame grinned, he opened his mouth but a customer called which made him turn away quickly. His attention now fully on another customer.
Po smiled to himself then sighed. Guess I could use some distraction for tonight. He thought to himself.
The night dragged on with Thame and Po flirting back on forth, not wanting the other to win a game they did not even know the rules of. Smiling teasingly at one another, feeling a beat in their chest simultaneously.
Po then abruptly stood up, “Bathroom,” he announced, Thame just nodded.
Po went then immediately goes in front of the mirror. He looked wrecked as fuck. Eyes half-lidded, nose and cheeks pink, he's tipsy. He goes out of the bathroom, dizzy. He can't even walk straight. He does not even know how many drinks he had by now. Too busy talking and flirting with Thame to count.
He was stumbling here and there when a hand suddenly crept onto his waist, holding him up.
“Careful, pretty.” a voice said. He looked up and saw a middle aged man he does not know.
“Who are you? Get off me,” he slurred, trying to push the man away but was not strong enough.
“Come on, you're drunk. Let's go to my place, yeah? I'll take care of you,“ the man said, basically dragging him out of the bar.
He was basically squirming to get out of the man's embrace who is holding him so tightly when Thame saw and immediately sprinted towards him.
“Let go of him,” Thame said, voice stern and demanding, “Who are you, kid? Go back to your job and stop bothering us.” the man, turning his attention to Po who is still trying to fight him off.
Thame took Po's wrist then guarded him.
“I said, let go,” he said, the man almost stumbled, making him scoff, “Who the fuck do you think you are, huh?!” the man screamed, immediately causing a scene. Some of the customer automatically turned their heads towards them. Some even filming.
Po was annoyed, he wanted to get out of this situation so bad. And what's the best way to do it?
“This is my boyfriend!” he slurred out his words then kissed Thame, on the lips. The kiss was harsh but not long, it's a kiss that says, ‘I belong to him’. A kiss that screams, ’Stop bothering me’.
The old man blinked, embarrassed. And quickly sprinted away, even stumbling his way out of the building. Po scoffed then laughed at the man. What a man-child. He thought.
Thame though, was shocked. He has his jaw dropped the moment Po pulled away from their kiss. What the fuck was that?
Before Thame could even form a coherent sentence to say to Po or ask him, Po stumbled, too drunk to move.
“Careful,” he said, holding Po up.
“I'll be fine!” Po whined, clearly lying, “Wanna sit down? I'm sure your head is crazy right now.” Thame suggested, Po looked at him for a second before nodding.
Thame sat Po in a private seat, in the couch with no one else. The thought of them being all alone in this room kept on creeping on his thoughts but that immediately got taken away when Po spoke.
“I'm sorry,” he sniffled, “I kissed you... I'm sorry.” he added, then here comes the cry. It wasn't just a normal tears streaming down your face—he was sobbing.
“Shit— It's fine! Don't worry, I did not...” Thame stammered in his words, not knowing what to say to a customer who he had been flirting with, who got hit on by an old guy, who kissed him and told everyone was his boyfriend.
“No! No, I... I shouldn't have done that! But... he shouldn't have, too! That was cruel! Fucking cruel!” Po continued to sob, hugging his knees now.
Thame frowned, is this even about the kiss and the old man anymore?
“He... he broke up with me, Thame! Over the phone! And he thinks I'm dumb enough to buy his lame excuse of his job not taking him if he's not single! He thinks I'm... he thinks I'm fucking dumb...” he whined, voice strained now from all the sobs and yelling.
Thame did not know what to do so he hugged him, tight.
“It's fine, it's fine. I'm here,” he said, trying to confirm the other, while Po just sob, voice broken and cries loud.
And when the crying died down, Po exhaled deep, finally calming down. He freed himself from Thame's hug.
“I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done that,” he said, eyes fixated on his fingers, “It's fine, don't worry.” Thame replied, his other hand still on Po's back.
“Did I bother you? Oh my God, you should probably go back to your work.” Po rambled, standing up abruptly.
“No, no! Don't worry, you didn't. You're not a bother.” Thame blurted out, panicked, not acknowledging what he just daid. But Po did.
Po blinked.
“Oh, uhm... okay. Thanks.” he said, hands fidgeting now.
Thame finally realized what he said but did not mentioned it and just put his hand on his nape.
“So, uh, my shift is actually done. If you wanna go unwind, maybe?” Thame broke the silence, looking expectantly at Po.
Po looked up at him, eyes wide, “It's 2 A.M, Thame. You sure you wanna end your shift with a heartbroken drunkard?” Po laughed at himself while Thame chuckled.
“I'm sure.” Thame grinned which made Po froze.
They are now sitting in front of a 7/11 with drinks and foods in hands, Thame humming a song Po was sure he heard in the bar.
“Are you not gonna go home yet?” Thame mumbled, mid-sip.
“Do you want me gone?” Po teased, Thame chuckled, “You know that's not what I meant.” he rolled his eyes jokingly.
Po laughed, “I don't wanna. I enjoy... whatever this is.” he gestured at the both of them.
Thame then laughed at him.
“Wanna get my number?” Thame asked, Po froze for a minute before chuckling and nodding.
Maybe this day wasn't so bad after all.
