Work Text:
Firstly, I would like to start off, Porsche is highly impacted by what he sees as important. To him, before the appearance of Kinn, Porchay was a vital part of his life. Each penny made is essentially used to keep him and his brother afloat while funding his brother’s education. Without Porchay, Porsche would have not felt as inclined to accept Kinn’s offer.
Note: This is how I saw it, I can’t exactly remember the moments so I may not be accurate.
I’ve seen Porsche in both a heavily negative light and positive light. Many realizations due to media has led me to see Porsche as someone driven by emotions.
Porsche has deep emotions towards Porchay, of course due to needing to raise him from young, he would sacrifice everything to Porsche, and its seen through his actions in the series. He is willing to remove even his uncle someone who raised them away from their life in order to protect themselves. I see this as admirable, he's someone strong in this aspect, he lives to protect those he loves.
Yet, you can still argue his emotions is his weakness, the actions done by Kinn in the first NC scene is unacceptable yet ultimately love for Kinn that blossomed led to forgiveness by Porsche to Kinn. Perhaps you can argue otherwise, perhaps his forgiveness can be seen as strength as tolerance. His actions after this act from Kinn shows someone truly tormented by what occurred, the scenes are raw in the sense we can almost feel the emotions of carrying this trauma, his ability to get through this event shows someone who is able to pull themselves out of trouble.
I believe his initial reaction of aggression and disrespect towards Kinn during the first encounter shows the pride Porsche has, he isn’t too prideful and respects himself. To me this has always been a funny and great quality he had, funny due to how he would act with this pride.
Throughout the series, there is lots of rebellion from Porsche, though I would argue the entry into the compound and the things he gone through while inside, he did truly start to falter on this matter. Though, I also think his relationship to Kinn, perhaps slightly before their official relationship, the relationship was able to rebuild the confidence Porsche had, in a sense ultimately leaving Porsche as someone stronger.
———
During my first encounter of Porsche to me, he seemed extremely childish. I questioned whether this was due to his lack of childhood, being required to raise his younger brother, or rather the fact the society, his friend group, his work place promotes chaos and carelessness. His childishness was ultimately entertained by Kinn’s dad (his name is not worth remembering) yes it was due to secret motives I acknowledge that. I think this childishness ties in with the rebellion, he attempted to take control of Kinn’s bodyguard by outright requesting to lead them, this was out of spite, and without acknowledgement of the position he actually was during that moment. These times ultimately made me believe he had a childish personality.
This also ties into foolishness, stupidity, at times I wanted to scream at him for stupid actions but ultimately it’s simply a character. He has a lack of social awareness, him drinking a water from that bar during a mission was stupid, sure he wouldn’t expect it, he most likely didn’t have to go through such precautions, but from my point of view, his behavior during an important mission showed stupidity.
He also trusts to much, he expects that people will be honest, and with it, ends up being hurt. I think a clear example is when he acted in the fighting ring and was expected to earn a specific amount of money if he extended the fight. Yes, he did extend the fight, but the man conned him out of full pay, this angered Porsche but if my memory serves me right he ultimately submitted to the less payment. I believe with the society that Porsche is in, partying, fighting, literally just trying to survive any means possible, he would know more of dishonesty.
Porsche ultimately is a will written character in the series. He is layered, his past reflecting on the future, yet it also feels that his character is conforming to how the author wishes to bend the story. It feels almost inhuman, one who doesn’t learn from a lesson. Yet he is someone layered in love for those he finds close, willing to be selfless for them. In a hundred different ways, he is both weak and strong. He wears a light mask, he is playful within and shows it to the world, yet he hides the trauma he saw.
