Work Text:
Another day at the Cave in Mount Justice. Everything was going smoothly—except for a half-Kryptonian with anger management issues. Conner was content watching static on the TV with Wolf right beside him, until his girlfriend, Megan—aka Miss Martian—decided it was waaaaaay too boring and that they should watch a movie.
Like a good Martian raised on Earth TV shows, thanks to her uncle, Martian Manhunter, Megan wanted to watch yet another Disney animated movie.
“C’mon, Megan! What’s wrong with what I’m watching?” the Kryptonian complained, though he made no move to stop her.
“Conner, you were watching static. If anyone’s in the wrong, it’s you. I’m with Megan on this one,” said the blonde archer, Artemis, as she made her entrance. “What are we watching, Miss M?”
“Mmm… what about Cinderella?”
Woosh!
“Cinderella?! Really? C’mon, babe, pick something with more action or science!” Wally sped into the conversation. He began rambling at super-speed, listing a gazillion better options than Cinderella.
“Hey! Kid Mouth! Can you zip it?! No one understands you when you speak like that,” Artemis snapped, clearly annoyed by the redhead. “Besides, Cinderella is a classic for a reason. It’s not as good as the original book, but it’s still good.”
“What happens in the original book?” Wally asked, actually intrigued.
“One of the sisters cuts off her toes to fit the glass slipper.”
“She did what?!” Megan asked in disbelief.
“Which one?”
“Why don’t you read it and find out?”
“Hard pass. I’d rather read this week’s comics.”
“Nerd.”
“Should we ask Zatanna to join us?” Megan asked, trying to stop yet another round of bickering between Artemis and Wally.
“Is she still in her room?” Since Fate took her dad, it had been hard for Zee to leave her room unless it was for missions, training, eating, or hanging out with a certain bird.
“No. Rob got her a couple of hours ago, and they’re wandering around somewhere in the Cave.”
“Can you hear them?” Wally asked, his voice full of mischief.
“I can, but I won’t. I don’t care what they’re up to. Besides… your parents and Kaldur told me it’s not okay to do that.”
“Why does Conner listen to your parents more than you do, Wallace?”
“C’mon, Supey. It’s something juicy! Rob never tells me anything, but I’m sure he has the hots for Zatanna.”
“Everyone knows that. It’s so obvious.”
“They’re so cute together!” Megan squealed.
“Can I go back to watching static?” Conner mumbled, hoping to escape the gossip and return to his peace and quiet.
Hours later…
The Team was called by Black Canary for another undercover mission after a full afternoon of movies. Robin and Zatanna entered the conference room, clearly comfortable with each other—ready for the mission but gaining suspicious looks from their teammates.
“Robin, you’re Team Leader. Kaldur is busy in Atlantis, and you’re the next logical choice,” said Canary. Robin squinted slightly, still uncomfortable after the whole simulation mission. Zee stroked his arm to calm him down—and it worked.
“Roger that, Canary.” The Team received the briefing and headed out to investigate the kingdom of Pokolistan aboard the Bio-Ship.
“You ain’t never had a friend like me!” Wally sang. “Yes sir, we pride ourselves on service!” He changed his voice like the Genie did in the movie. “You’re the boss, the king, the shah!”
“KF?! What are you singing?”
“Sorry, dude. We had a Disney movie marathon with Miss M all afternoon, and now that song’s stuck in my head.”
“Yeah, but you’re the only one singing. Can you please stop torturing my ears?” Artemis groaned.
“I ain’t no Robin Williams, but I don’t sing that bad… right, Rob?”
“Maybe we should focus on the mission…” Robin’s comment earned a soft, amused laugh from the magician. He smiled—something not lost on the rest of the Team.
“And what were you two doing all day? Anything… interesting?” Artemis asked with a teasing grin and a sing-song tone.
“Clearly we missed Wally butchering Disney classics,” Zee replied with a wry smile.
“Zatanna!”
“Oh my god, I like her so much,” Artemis couldn’t hold back her laughter.
“Okay, focus,” Robin said. “According to Canary, we need to beware of Rick Flag Sr. and his squad. He’s here under Waller’s orders.”
“Do we know who’s in his team?”
“Is it the Suicide Squad?”
“Negative,” Robin replied. “I checked with Batman. Belle Reve’s psychos are still locked up. But it’s Waller, so stay on your toes.”
Everyone nodded. Robin continued:
“We’re splitting into two teams. Miss M, Zee, and I will infiltrate the castle. SB, KF, and Artemis will be on lookout.”
“Rob? Shouldn’t I be on the infiltration team? Y’know… with my super speed?”
“No. You’re not exactly quiet. Miss M can camouflage, Zee has spells, and I’m stealth-trained. You and Artemis are the perfect combo for recon—her keen eyes and your speed. Ideal for a quick extraction if needed.”
“Understood.”
“Psychic link established,” Megan announced.
“Thanks, Megan.”
Inside the castle…
The infiltration team—Robin, Zee, and Megan—snuck through the halls.
“Everything looks good to—WAIT! Guards coming your way,” Artemis warned. The recon team watched as Megan vanished in camouflage, Zee disappeared into thin air, and Robin blended into the shadows.
“Okay. That was impressive,” Artemis admitted.
“Ooooh, wooow. Hello, hello!” Kid Flash whistled.
“What is it, KF? More guards?” Robin asked.
“No. I’ve got eyes on the Queen. And wow, she’s quite the babe. What if, instead of doing this the hard way, I come down and use the good ol’ KF charm, sweep her off her feet, and get the intel?”
“Shut it, Kid Mouth. I’ve seen you shoot your shot multiple times, and so far… a blind guy has better aim than you.”
“Burn!”
“Can we focus? What’s the Queen doing?”
“She’s on her balcony… talking with Rick Flag.”
“SB? Can you hear them?”
“Yes…” Conner sounded uncomfortable.
“And?”
“She’s flirting with him…”
“What?! He’s like a thousand years old!”
“But he’s so fine,” Artemis admitted, taking another look at Rick Flag Sr.
“Gross.”
Back inside the castle, the infiltration team continued avoiding guards and searching for clues.
“Who’s that?” Zee asked, spotting a woman with wild black-and-gray hair that reminded her of Marge Simpson.
“That’s the Bride. What’s she doing here?”
“The Bride?”
“As in Frankenstein’s Bride. Y’know—the monster’s wife.”
“Is she for real?”
“Yeah, and—shit!”
“What?! What did you find?”
“Doctor Phosphorus. What the hell is he doing here?”
“Need backup, Rob?” Wally offered.
“Negative. We’ll keep moving in the shadows.”
The trio continued until they reached the Queen’s meeting room. Megan kept watch while Zee and Robin searched the files. But then…
“🎵 Now’s your moment… floating in a blue lagoon… 🎵”
Robin and Zatanna paused at the unexpected singing echoing through the mind link.
“Kid Mouth. Shut it! They need to focus!” Artemis hit Wally, who was next to her.
“It’s not me!”
“🎵 Boy, you better do it soon… no time will be better… 🎵”
“Oh my god. It’s Conner!” Megan exclaimed.
Artemis and Wally turned to see Conner in full concentration mode, scanning the area, completely unaware he was broadcasting “Kiss the Girl” through the mind link.
“🎵 She don’t say a word… and she won’t say a word… 🎵”
Artemis and Wally were barely holding back laughter. Megan beamed. Zee opened her mouth to tease, but stopped when she turned and saw Robin.
He was looking at her—more specifically, at her lips. Clearly lost in both the song and the moment.
“🎵 Until you kiss the girl… 🎵”
If it weren’t for the dim lights, everyone would’ve seen the deep flush blooming across Zee’s cheeks. She wanted him to kiss her. So badly.
“SUPERBOY!” Artemis shouted through the mind link.
“What?!”
“You were singing…”
“No. I wasn’t.”
“Yes, yes you were. And while we all enjoyed your version of Kiss the Girl… we’re in the middle of a mission.”
“Robin? Zatanna? Did you find anything?” Megan asked in a whisper.
The duo, still staring at each other, snapped out of it.
“No—but please. No more karaoke during missions,” Robin muttered, cheeks red as he refocused on the task. He knew Batman would have his head if he found out how easily he’d been distracted by impure thoughts.
On the other side of the room… Zee was already thinking: song or no song—she was kissing Robin after this mission
