Work Text:

Thankfully it wasn’t all shooting and no play, while the crew worked on fixing the cameras you and the guys had some down time to hang out. You were just setting down your towel to sunbathe when you were picked up by a streak of orange and brought to a cabin where snorkeling gear was out. Naturally you turned to Haru who looked sheepishly at you and gestured at the gear. “I wanted to go snorkeling with you but Rui is just too good at taking your attention. Sorry.” You smiled gently at him, amused at his clear desire to hang out with you in a non life threatening way.

“It’s not often that you get to be away from your dorm is it?” You asked as you grabbed the gear and tried it on.

“Right yeah, usually if I can get away it’s to Rui’s bar but he’s not here and they locked up the goods so, next best thing?” You tried not to let the disappointment show on your face, he would rather be drinking than spending time with you?

“Not that you’re a last option though, I just wasn’t sure if you would want to hang out with me, doing this.” He gestured towards himself, now wearing his own set and you relaxed.

“Don’t worry, you’re my favorite house so far to be an inspector for.” He blushed at that and coughed turning his back to you.

“Well, let's head out shall we?” You followed him into the water, amused when he held a hand out for you to take. You grabbed onto it, going deeper in and floating there as you stared at each other.

“Ever done this before?” He asked, looking around for a suitable starting point.

“No, never,” you smiled apologetically at your lack of knowledge only for Haru to smile at that.

“Great so I can hold your hand then,” You laughed and he scrambled blushing even more than he did in the shed. “Um, anyway let me help you with your gear.” He assisted with getting you situated, hand lingering a little in your hair as he stared at you.

You tilted your head and he shook his head, releasing you. Putting his own gear in place he held a hand out to you again. Without hesitation you grabbed it, knowing you were safe with him in the water. Diving under the water was fantastic, as you kicked your legs and examined your surroundings. You were conscious to keep your snorkel up out of the water for air but you couldn’t help but gasp inwardly at the sights. Little clown fish swam in and out of anemones and you reached out to touch only to be stopped by Haru. He gently shook his head at you and you retracted your hand, sure he would explain why to you after the session. Moving on you saw bright colorful fish you couldn’t begin to name, and you kept them in your mind to ask Haru about them later. You felt your hand tugged and accepted the pull, looking curiously at what had gotten him so excited. You widen your eyes as you see a black head peering at you both from behind a rock only to duck back inside. You saw a starfish and this time it was your turn to pull Haru as you went over and examined it. Eventually you both could feel the fatigue in your bodies from swimming and you made your way up to the surface. You popped the snorkel out of your mouth and pulled the mask up onto your head.

“Haru, that was incredible! I have so many questions about what we saw.” Haru also moved so he could talk, staring at you with sparkling eyes as he pulled you gently towards a flat rock with just enough space for two to sit. You climbed up with his help and leaned back, leaving your feet to kick in the water as the warmth from the rock seeped into your shivering body.

“Sorry about stopping you from touching them, marine life is protected and it’s not good when humans touch them. Can mess with their immune system to name other things.” You tilted your head at that, you didn’t know that but it was good to know.

“Thank you for stopping me then, I wouldn’t want to hurt them.” Haru gently laughed at that, playing with your fingers as they stayed next to him.

“I think it’s awesome that you like animals, you’ve even gotten used to the ones in the park.” You smiled at that and leaned close to him catching his eyes.

“You do a good job of showing their good side, so they aren’t scary anymore.” He blushed again and rubbed the back of his head, giggling nervously.

“You know one of the fun things about clownfish is, they developed an immunity to anemone. So while predators that might try to come for them are stung, they are perfectly safe. It’s symbiotic too, they provide food and protection for the anemone’s too. And starfish are another fun one, did you know they don’t have brains?” You watched him talk in contentment, asking questions occasionally that he eagerly answered. You looked up at the sky, surprised at the sun setting and knowing you would have to go back and start shooting the night scene. Haru seemed to realize too as he stopped talking and grabbed your hand again.

“So, about the last night and your bottle, any idea who you want to give it to?” You hadn’t even remembered that honestly, having fun with Haru and relaxing since you got there. The idea of whoever you pick being the only one who can go off the island with you weighed heavily on your mind.

“I think probably you? You have Peekaboo at home after all and I would hate to separate a dad from his child.” Haru laughed at that, loud and free as he wrapped an arm around your waist.

“Only because of Peekaboo?” You leaned closer, staring at his eyes and flickering to his lips.

“Well, I suppose I could be convinced to pick you for another reason.” You trailed off as he kissed you. It was soft and unsure, but tasted like sunshine and the ocean. You kissed back, closing your eyes and losing yourself in the moment. You broke apart and leaned your foreheads against each other. You weren’t sure what would come by the end of the shooting but you were glad Haru was here to experience it with you.
