Work Text:

The smell of fresh bread and coffee still lingers in the room, a smell that Sebastian never could get rid of, even if he tried. The air feels thick, a wave of tension still washed over Sebastian. It wasn’t often that Seb and Yubin got into a fight, actually it had never happened before, until the day that Sebastian killed his uncle.

After casting Avada Kedavra on his uncle, when Anne hit him with a Depulso so hard it sent him flying roughly into the wall behind him, he felt like his whole world crashed down in a second. He couldn’t breathe, couldn’t move as he watched Anne fall over Solomon’s dead body. A painful no left his mouth when Anne destroyed the book, the only other chance at a cure for her, destroyed in a second.

The words that Anne spoke left him numb, ringing in his head over and over again, seeming like they were getting louder and louder each and every time they went through. “You’ve made your choice” and like that she was gone, Solomon’s body along with her. When he was finally able to get up, and properly feel like he was breathing again, Yubin couldn’t even look him in the eye. What was on Yubins face he couldn’t really decipher, anger, betrayal, hurt, sadness? Whatever it was, it was enough that he couldn’t even look in Sebastian’s direction.

“Yubin, please say something, or look at me at least?” Sebastian said, desperate to get his attention, to feel like he didn’t make the love of his life, his companion, feel any sort of distain towards him. Yubin flinched, his nose scrunching as a look of sorrow and despair, rested upon his supple face. “I’m sorry, Sebastian. I have to go.” And like that, Yubin was gone too, leaving Sebastian behind, feeling empty and broken.

Sebastian rolled to his side to look out the window, the unpleasantness of the memory hitting him like a truck, a wave of sickness washing over him. Since that day, Sebastian hadn’t heard from Yubin. He couldn’t really blame him, however, after all, his boyfriend was a detective, his job works directly with the law, he was lucky enough not to be turned in.

That didn’t stop the pain Sebastian felt, however, as he clutched his hand to his chest tightly. He hadn’t left the Slytherin common room, not since Yubin left him the way he did. Sebastian didn’t see a point of getting up and out of bed every day for class anymore. If Yubin didn’t want to see him anymore, who would? Lucky for him, Ominis ended up talking to his sister, convincing her that it wasn’t the right idea to send Sebastian to Azkaban.

This was likely Yubins doing, as he heard whispers of Ominis telling Yubin that “they didn’t have a choice” and that Anne felt as though Sebastian should pay for his crimes. He didn’t blame her, of course he didn’t, part of him actually wished that Yubin decided that he should be sent to Azkaban. Since that talk, Ominis has been visiting Sebastian for days, trying to get him out of bed to at least eat or drink water.

As much as Ominis hated the use of dark magic, he still loved and cared about his best friend, and so he chose to forgive him, and now checks up him on a constant basis. Sebastian heard the entrance to their shared room open, and grunted in annoyance, as he knew what was coming. “Ominis, for the last time, no matter how many times you come over here I’m not getting out of bed” Sebastian said in annoyance.

What Sebastian wasn’t expecting, however, was the distinct light brown coat of Yubin Vall’na. His body froze, and his breath caught in his throat, everything in his body just tensing. Yubin, quietly walking around his bed, finally sat himself down on the side, his head tilted, looking at the floor. Nothing was said for a brief moment, what was a minute felt like an hour, and the silence in the room was deafening.

“Sebastian, I wanted to apologize to you.” Was the first thing that came out of Yubins mouth. Sebastian, whose body was tense the whole time when he realized who was in the room, finally began to relax at the words. “What for?” Sebastian said quietly, siting himself up so that he could rest his head on his knees. “I wanted to apologize, for how I left you back there, in the cave”.

The mention of what happened made Sebastian’s body tense again, not out of fear, but because he didn’t know where the conversation was heading. “When I saw what happened, I genuinely couldn’t believe my eyes”Yubin rubbed his forehead a little, and it was clear that he was just as nervous to talk to Sebastian as Sebastian was with him being there.

“I mean, I’m a bloody detective, I work for the law, and you killed someone, right in front of my eyes” Yubin inhaled sharply, taking a brief pause to catch himself up with his own thoughts. “And for a while, I didn’t know what to do, I didn’t know how to handle what just happened.” Sebastian frowned, the turmoil was obvious on Yubins face, and it made his heart break. “I was faced with the choice of either sending my boyfriend to Azkaban or letting you roam free”.

That deepened Sebastian’s frown. He wasn’t mad that the thought appeared in Yubins head, it’s a part of his job after all, he just wish it didn’t sting as much as it did. “But I decided not to” Yubin finally said, inhaling a shaky breath. “Why not? You had every right to, I killed someone, my own uncle” anger, not at Yubin, but at himself washed over Sebastian’s body. “Because despite you killing him, you don’t deserve to be locked up into Azkaban for the rest of your life”

For the first time in a while, Yubin looked over at Sebastian, staring him dead in the eyes, just how Sebastian wished he would after everything that occurred. “I love you, Sebastian. Even though I know what you did is completely wrong, I just can’t lock you up in there. You deserve to get help, not to be locked up in a cell to be mentally tortured for eternity” Yubin reached over, wiping the tear that quietly rolled down Sebastian’s cheek.

Sebastian leaned into his hand, the guilt and anger he felt dissipating in a second. “I’m so sorry again Sebastian, for leaving you like that back there, I promise I won’t ever do it again” Sebastian broke out into full on sobs, the lack of food and water from locking himself up in the dorms finally getting to him. Yubin frowned, wrapping his arms tightly around Sebastian, as he allowed the boy to bury his face into his neck and just sob.

The moment was no longer deafening, or uncomfortable, or angry. It was just emotion, pure and raw emotion. After finally having his moment to sob he pulled back, looking at Yubin like he was never going to see him again, because maybe in another timeline, that would’ve been the case. “I was afraid, so so afraid that I was never going to see you again” Sebastian confessed, his eyes red from all the crying.

“I was sure you were gonna lock me up, but when that didn’t happen, I figured that meant you were done with me” Sebastian choked out, trying to rub the tears from off his face. “I’m sorry, Sebastian, I never meant to make you feel that way” Yubin said, guilt written all over his face. When he took a second to take a good look at Sebastian, he felt his heart break. “You’re skinner than you usually are, how did I not notice?” Yubin asked, mentally punching himself for not going to Sebastian sooner.

“It’s not your fault, I just didn’t want to leave my bed, I’ve been scared of what the others are whispering about me. I’ve already heard some things from the other Slytherins I share a room with” Sebastian rubbed the back of his head, he could only imagine what everyone else was saying about him. “Oh, Sebastian.” Yubin said, pulling Sebastian back into the tightest hug he’s ever been, actually the only hugs he’s gotten in a long while.

“I’m so glad you’re back, I’ve missed you so much” Sebastian said the, heartbreak in the air so thick that you could cut it with a knife. Yubin pulled back, giving Sebastian a soft but loving kiss. “I’ve missed you too, Sebastian. And I won’t ever leave you like that again, I promise you” Sebastian sighed, his forehead now touching Yubins. “Thank you, Yubin” Sebastian said softly. “For what?” Yubin asked confused. “For loving me” was all Sebastian had to say.

Although there was still so much that Sebastian and Yubin would have to get through, they were gonna get through it together, come what may, till the bitter end.
