Chapter 1: Prologue
Chapter Text
I'd also say that I didn't ask for any of this, but I'd also be lying.
—Amara!
I turned around to see my friends walking fastly towards me, Margo putting her phone away.
8:10.
We were all late again.
—Clara, Margo —I said, still very sleepy.
—Amaraaaaaaa —Clara gave me a hug, and I stiffened. She seemed to notice, and let me go.
We were at the school door by now, and I started to go down the stairs. Man, school was boring. I was so not ready for another Monday.
It had been more than a year since Wakfu Season 4's release, but nothing had happened. I don't even know what I'm expecting. It's almost impossible that I could form a part of the krosmoz history again.
But still. I did once. During Season 3. But that was a long time ago.
9:32
I asked if I could go to the bathroom. Geography and History is quite boring when my teacher explains it. He always goes on and on, and loses the topic. Like that one time he started explaining the different climate zones that existed in the world, and ended up talking about vanilla ice cream. Anyway, the teacher kinda likes me, since I do have good marks, so he let me go to the bathroom.
Although, recently, my marks have been going down. The last exam I had for Geography I had a 6,8. Maybe the fact that I missed the last class where they explained some stuff may have something to do with it. The Language exam didn't go better than that. I had a 5,7, though I'm not disappointed, I'm not very good at Language.
Anyway, I was on my way to the bathroom thinking about this, and I didn't see the girl I almost bumped into. Virginia.
I really don't know what to make of that girl. She failed 7 subjects of 8, and it's worldly known that she smokes in the bathroom and in her class. But I don't think that she's actually bad. She's always been kind to me. But then again, all the girls have always been kind to me, and I have always been kind to the rest of the girls, yet my real friends, who have tick tock and whatnot, tell me they criticize me through those platforms. I don't really care, but I am still curious about what I ever did against them. The only thing I remember doing bad was reading Silvia's diary in 5th grade. She has hated me since then, and I don't even recall why I did that. Maybe it was to anger her, since Clara told me that she was insulting me in the school canteen at lunchtime.
Virginia kindly said hello to me, and I returned the greeting, as I went inside the girl's toilet. I locked myself inside a cubicle, and sat down, looking at the ceiling. I was terribly bored.
9: 38
Maybe I should head back. I've been here for six minutes. I get up, and open the door. I look at my eyes in the mirror. The pupil was bigger than normal, and it reminded me of one of cat's in the dark. It had been dilated by the ophthalmologist yesterday, when I went for a revision. My astigmatism had grown. I had more headaches than normal.
9:39
I was going to close the door of the girl's bathroom, when a shine caught my eye, up ahead, in the corridor. I closed the door, and started walking at the blue light. The light came from up the staircase, and filtered through the little opening in which you could look to the upper levels. I felt an... Energy... It was electrifying. The air smelled like ozone. The light felt almost otherworldly, shifting in different tones of blue. I slowly went up the staircase, and all I could think was 'Well, looks like I got my wish'.
The blue light blinded me, and I couldn't remember anything else.
Chapter 2: Episode 1: Inexistent
Chapter Text
The wind flowed through the mountains, as the songs of the dragons filled the atmosphere with its enchanting music. The flowery oceans smelled like perfume, and whales jumped out of them. Fields covered with flowers, with children playing in them. The aurora borealis, coloured like dofus, shone upon the World of the Eliatropes, otherwise known as the Blue Planet.
The great and powerful Nora walked, or almost ran, to the Eliatrope Council meeting that she had, and was late to.
—Efrim! Please, take me with you! —she yelled to a white dragon, who was flying away fastly —I'm gonna be late!
—You shouldn't have used up all your wakfu playing with the kids!
—Efrim! —Nora let out a disparate scream, before the dragon left her sight.
The eliatrope was still looking up, so she didn't see the person in front of her, and they bumped into each other.
—Oh, I'm so sorry! —excused Nora, and fastly got up. She extended her hand to the girl, who was still on the ground. She gave no signs of wanting to accept the help, as she was just looking to the sky.
—Have you ever stopped to look at the clouds? —she asked suddenly.
Nora frowned. What a weird question. But the answer was yes. She loved playing in the fields with the rest of the eliatrope kids, and they often spent time looking at the clouds.
—Yes, actually.
—Huh.
What was with this girl? It was af she didn't notice she was in front of one of the members of the eliatrope council!
—Who are you? —Nora asked, sure that she hadn't seen her before.
But the girl didn't answer. She just continued looking at the clouds. For some reason, Nora had the feeling that this girl didn't talk much, and that the question was an exception.
The pink-haired eliatrope looked at the girl's hat. It was the way to judge an eliatrope. Bigger ears means bigger wings, and the bigger the wings, the more powerful the eliatrope. For example, Qilby had very big wings, so he tied them down since they were heavy. Chibi and Mina also had big wings.
The girl's hat was dark green, almost black, and the ears were quite small, falling down. Nora decided that she wasn't very powerful. It was a weird hat though. Then, she suddenly remembered the Eliatrope Council meeting she was late to.
—Oh, nonononono! —she exclaimed —I'm gonna be late! Grougal's gonna kill me!
She ran towards the Castle, and she soon forgot about that girl in a strange hat who liked the clouds, when she was scolded by Grougaloragran.
Amara got up from the ground after a while. She had just met Nora. But she wasn't like in Wakfu Season 4, in that ninja-like clothing, and pale pink hair. She looked like in the game, Islands of Wakfu.
"This must have happened before the Wakfu and Dofus era. This has to be the Primordial era. So that means that whatever magic brings me to the krosmoz for some reason, it doesn't work in a linear time, but more like I appear at random points of time"
Amara already had her suspicions, because everyone knew that the World of The Eliatropes was destroyed by the Mechasms. Nora's encounter with her had proven her right.
"The main thing is that I don't meet Qilby. He will remember me"
Amara decided to walk away from the Castle. If she was lucky, maybe she wouldn't meet anyone else from the Eliatrope Council.
But then again, this was her opportunity. She had endured one year of routine, one year of boredom, and now that she finally was back in the krosmoz, now that she finally was in the history of her favourite TV show, was she just going to walk away, do nothing?
Do nothing while the Mechasms arrived at the little Blue Planet, do nothing while Qilby went crazy, do nothing while he stole the Eliacube from Orgonax, do nothing while he destroyed everything, do nothing while the eliatropes escaped, do nothing while they arrived at the World of Twelve, do nothing while Chibi crowned Yugo the king of the eliatropes, do nothing while Qilby reactivated the eliacube, do nothing while Orgonax found the World of Twelve, do nothing while he destroyed everything again, do nothing while the eliatrope children were sent away to the dimension of Embrumb alongside Balthazar, do nothing while Yugo, Adamai and Phaeris fought Qilby, do nothing while Yugo sent Qilby into the white dimension, do nothing while Nora and Efrim sacrificed themselves to kill Orgonax, was she just gonna do nothing??
No, Amara decided. She wasn't going to change anything. Then again, maybe she already has. The Butterfly effect. Everything is too confusing. But she won't just walk away. At least, she'd meet Qilby. What were the chances that she'd go back to the krosmoz again, and she probably would not live enough to see the end of the story. At the most, she could meet the eliatrope, and maybe help a little.
Yeah, she'd see him, and Adamai too.
For some reason, she had the feeling that she'd probably see the dragon again.
Chapter 3: Episode 2: Inexistent
Chapter Text
The Eliatrope Council was gathered in the main hall, around a long table with chairs. Only one chair was unoccupied.
—Where is Nora? —enquired Chibi —This is an important meeting, and I told her.
—hehehe, I bet she's still running... —murmured Efrim.
Grougaloragran's excellent hearing caught that: —What did you say, Efrim?
The young dragon flinched.
—Well, you see, we were playing in the fields, and she kinda used up all her wakfu making portals trying to touch a cloud, and...
—You didn't think it'd be a good idea to bring her with you? —frowned Phaeris —We're wasting time now, even Yugo is more reasonable!
Adamai, Efrim, Mina, Qilby, Shinonome, Chibi, Grougaloragran, Glip and Balthazar pointed at the blonde eliatrope, while he tried to fit seven pretzels in his mouth.
—...Never mind, scratch that.
Suddenly, the doors came wide open, as Nora ran inside the hall. The pink-haired eliatrope tripped and got up, before coming to face Chibi and Grougaloragran.
—I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, I...
Grougal got up.
—You are as irresponsible as they come. Efrim told Grougaloragran of your games. You shouldn't use all your wakfu when you play, imagine you had to use it and it was important!
—I'm sorry.
Grougaloragran frowned: —You are to stay in your room grounded. A month.
Nora opened here eyes wide:
—A MONTH????
—Come one, Grougal, don't be too hard on her! —Chibi argued —She's still the youngest!
Yugo suddenly got up very quickly, swallowing the pretzels. He opened a portal, and appeared next to Nora.
—Hey Nora, you know what? I found a perfect tree for you to make your tree house!
—You did? —the eliatrope girl looked at the ground —But I can't go out, remember.
—Haha —Efrim mocked.
—Don't be so cheerful, Efrim, you're grounded as well —added Grougaloragran.
—...Huh???
—Don't you think it's too much? —asked Mina.
Shinonome nodded. She didn't speak much usually, only with her brother, and then, she was as sassy as they get.
Then, a girl in a weird dark green hat entered the hall.
Nora gasped.
—It's you!
Adamai looked at the girl.
She walked into the council hall like she'd taken a wrong turn from some other world. The doors hadn't even finished swinging before she was standing there, blinking at all of the council with eyes Adamai couldn't quite pin down, were they blue, or green, or something in between? Their gaze was penetrant, as if it could look just right through you, and yet it seemed that it didn't quite look at you, and that her mind was some different place entirely.
Her hair was a wild, light brown mess, strands falling into her face until she tucked them behind her ears, again and again, like it was a nervous habit. The hat she wore was dark green, its ears falling slightly down, and very small, as if she was the weakest of eliatropes, and it casted a shadow over her glasses, red-pink frames that made her look both serious and a little lost.
Adamai felt a surge of frustration. Who was she? Why did Nora know her, and he didn't? Why did he suddenly want to ask her a thousand questions, or maybe just sit beside her in silence until she decided to talk? For some reason, Adamai felt that he already knew her, or that he should know her.
Amara smiled at the dragon's confused gaze. "It must be his instinct. He has met me before, just not yet" Then a thought made her frown "But in that case, if I have met him in the future, there is no way he can even have an instinct to know me"
—Whaft af ywof fawfing a fowt, Nfora? —asked Yugo, his mouth again stuffed with pretzels.
—She's the girl I fell on before, and she said something about clouds!
Qilby let the pen he was using to scribble on a notebook fall to the table, and looked up at the girl.
—Who are you? —he asked, finally taking part in the meeting —And what are you doing here?
Adamai thanked the old eliatrope for making the question.
—Amara.
The council waited for her to add more information, but they were disappointed.
Qilby sensed something different in the girl. Her wakfu levels were low, unusually low, but that could be attributed to her low power, backed up by the floppy short ears that she seemed to have. He instinctively decided to analyze her.
—Chibi, if you don't mind, I am going to talk with Amara here.
He got up, and grabbed the girl, dragging her outside.
—I'm going with my brother —claimed Shinonome, as she also left.
—I'm gonna go to the kitchen to get more pretzels —added Yugo, as he grabbed Nora and Efrim, and took them outside.
—I have to go back to teaching —Glip opened a portal, and left. Balthazar followed him.
—Phaeris has important business... Elsewhere —the blue dragon also left.
—Um, I gotta go to the bathroom... —said Chibi, as he left.
—I... —Adamai blushed in embarrassment as his stomach growled —I'm going to get some pretzels too.
Mina sighed: —I have to finish some paperwork.
Grougaloragran looked around. He had been left alone.
—But... My meeting...
Chapter 4: Episode 3: Inexistent
Chapter Text
Qilby frowned as he dragged Amara through the village. For some reason, this eliatrope in a weird hat did not seem to notice that she was being personally escorted by one of the most powerful members of the Council of the Eliatropes, or, if she did notice, she didn’t care at the least.
She suddenly pulled his arm back, and made him stop. She pointed at Shinonome, who was following them a bit behind. The message was clear: “wait for your sister”.
—Don’t you know how to talk? —asked Qilby, mildly annoyed.
—I do.
Qilby stared at her. He sensed something different from her. Her eyes dashed, but looked completely through him, as if she wasn’t really there. QIlby frowned again. Shinonome arrived next to them. Amara turned her head.
Both of them nodded as a greeting. Qilby guessed that maybe Amara was similar to her sister. Maybe she only spoke with persons of her trust. They arrived at a tall white building, where Qilby and Shinonome lived, and where the former conducted all his experiments and research. The place was full of books, and it resembled a library. There was a giant tree in the middle of the main hall, and its top reached the ceiling, which had a wide bull’s eye, illuminating the whole library with natural light. Amara’s eyes widened. She had never seen so many books together in one place before. Of course she had been to libraries back home, she loved to read, but this was on a whole new different level.
—...
—Impressive, is it not? —The eliatrope in the white hat looked back at her.
Amara did not answer. This was beyond impressive. Qilby seemed to understand that. And he wished, that for once, he would be able to have that feeling.
He sighed, and let himself fall onto a chair. —Now, confess.
—Huh? —Amara looked at him with a questioning gaze. Shinonome also appeared to be confused.
—Your wakfu levels are lower than the average eliatrope. They’re almost nothing, actually. If you were an eliatrope, you’d be dead.
Amara made a weird face “Busted”.
Shinonome lifted an eyebrow.
The human sighed, and walked away.
—Hey, don't just walk away! —Qilby quarrelled, but Amara came back with a puff, and sat down. Then he looked Qilby in the eye.
—Listen, do you trust me? —she asked.
—No, how can I trust you? I just met you! —complained Qilby.
—Look, just promise me you won’t freak out!
—I see it hard for me, Qilby, to freak out, honestly.
—Promise!
—Okay, I promise! —Qilby already had little patience left. Needless to say, Shinonome witnessed this exchange with ever growing curiosity.
And Amara, to both of their horror, took off her weird hat.
—What the hell are you doing…!!!
Underneath the hat, was…
Nothing.
Qilby and Shinonome were stunned to a point that they did not blink.
Amara just stared back at them.
They were like that for a few more minutes.
—WHAT THE ACTUAL HECK ARE YOU???????????? —Qilby shouted, and it seemed that he was going to continue, as well as Shinonome, but Amara jumped on them, and covered their mouths.
—SHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! —she hushed them, —You promised you wouldn’t freak out!
Then, she slowly got up, looking around the library, if someone had heard them. Luckily, no one was there at the moment.
—BUT-
—Shhhhh! This is a library you know! —whispered Shinonome, who had recovered. It was still unbelievable that there existed beings without wings, needless to say horrendous, but that shouldn’t be an excuse to shout at a library.
Qilby also regained consciousness of where they were. He frowned. —What are you?
—I’m not an eliatrope.
—No duh —Shinonome rolled her eyes.
—Look, I can’t really explain and stuff. You know, space-time continuous thingies.
Qilby frowned. —You’re not from this world, are you?
—No, brother, of course she’s from this world, she’s as normal and average as they come (note sarcasm) —moked Shinonome.
—Not another world (okay that too) but rather another timeline —explained Amara.
—You shouldn’t be here —stated the eliatrope in the white hat.
—I know —said the girl, with a sad smile.
Shinonome searched for the girl’s Wakfu. —Your Wakfu may help to determine exactly where you belong, and eventually lead to a way back home.
Amara nodded. She wanted to take a part of the krozmos history, but she needed to find a way to go back, if things got out of hand.
Qilby got up. —Follow me, let's go to the “labo”. I have all my equipment down there, so maybe we can run some tests.
—Besides, we can actually shout there —smirked Shinonome, and Amara allowed herself a light chuckle.
The laboratory, or the “labo”, as the twins called it, was just as impressive as the library. It was filled with big vials, with some kind of animals inside, and there were a lot of vases and chemistry thingies that Amara did not know their use. Shinonome pointed at a chair for Amara to sit down, while Qilby searched through the liquids that could be found in small bottles with careful handwritten tags on them. He took out different instruments, and started mixing the liquids together.
Amara looked at the dragon next to her.
—What is he doing?
—He’s making the Wakfu Level Test, or the WLT for short. We do it to patients with low levels of Wakfu, to know exactly how much wakfu they have. That way, we know the strength of the pills we have to prescribe.
—Ah.
Qilby carefully lifted the tube he was mixing everything in, and gently shook it, to make sure all the components were blended perfectly. Then, he poured it in a glass.
—Here, drink this —he ordered, handing the glass to Amara. Amara looked at him with a frown.
—What does it have?
—What do you mean?
—Like, ingredients —explained the girl, —. You don’t expect me to just drink that, right?
—Plants from the forest.
—What plants?
Qilby scoffed.
—What do you even care?
—What plants?
The eliatrope sighed ——Cloromilesidine extract, a pinch of Zynthralidine for focus, and just a trace of Orgalethine, it helps your mind… synchronize.
Amara stared at the glass.
—Synchronize with what?
—The stream of Wakfu, obviously.
—That sounds like something a sick person would say before jumping out of a window, as in “I am one with the stream of Wakfu” —added Shinonome.
—Don’t make it worse.
Amara drank the glass.
And nothing happened.
—...And? Am I “synchronized with the flow of Wakfu”? —the girl drawed invisible quotes with her fingers in the air.
Shinonome searched for her Wakfu again. It was like none she had ever seen before. It had a pulse, different to the rhythmic heartbeats of dragons and eliatropes, her’s was irregular and weak. Then suddenly, there was a pull.
—Argggggg! —Amara screamed. Her entire body felt like it was on fire, —AAAAAAHHHH!!!
And she stopped breathing and fell to the ground.
Qilby and Shinonome looked at each other, deadpanned, until their medical instinct kicked in, and Qilby quickly checked her vitals. He gestured to Shinonome to pass him some vials, and he poured them on Amara’s lips.
The girl got up as if she had a spring.
—...What the…?
—Sorry —Qilby looked at her, preoccupied, —I didn’t contemplate the possibility that your body would react differently than an average eliatrope. Goddess, it’s just that I never even contemplated the possibility of other beings!
Amara frowned. “That’s sure to change when you meet the Mechasms”. She coughed, her throat still burned. Shinonome brought a glass of water.
—What does that one have? —the girl stared at it with mistrust.
—It’s just water.
Suspicious, she grabbed the other glass and drank it. Fortunately, nothing happened this time. Shinonome smiled at Amara’s frown.
—The worst thing that can happen is that you get diarrhea because of the different microbes in this water.
—Haha —mocked Amara, but she started coughing.
—You should take it slow the rest of the week, —recommended Qilby, still mixing liquids, and scribbling on a paper. —, while I work on a way to recreate that anomaly that brought you here.
—Anomaly?
Qilby stopped for a second. —Yes, of course. You are an anomaly, since you’re not supposed to be here. And also whatever brought you here was an anomaly. From the residual currents of Wakfu that you have, it was some kind of portal. Could you try to describe it for me?
—No, I never got the chance to actually see it. Every time I get close to it, it blinds me with light, and I appear here.
—Are you implying that this has happened before?
—No —denied Amara fast, too fast.
The twins looked at her suspiciously, but they didn’t ask further questions.
Amara looked at Qilby. —I can help you recreate the anomaly.
—Do you know about science?
—Uh… I can go get materials?
—Useful, I guess, —Qilby turned back to mixing liquids. —, but remember, try to keep it low the rest of the week.
—Fiiiine.
Amara left the “labo”, and went back upstairs, to the library. She thought that reading was “keeping it low”.
But the books were in eliatrope and dragonish.
—What am I supposed to do now… —whined the girl.
—You could go on a walk —suggested Adamai.
Amara jumped, she had not heard the dragon arrive.
—...Sure, why not?
