Chapter Text
The smell of smoke filled his nose as he peered into those red eyes, eyes that held so much confusion and rage. The look he’d come to memorize over the years since everything changed. When being quirkless got in the way he lost his best friend.
Katsuki’s friends had already entered the hallway, the words leaving those lips he’d spent a lifetime longing for. “If you really want a quirk, take a swan dive off the roof of the building, and pray for a quirk in your next life.”
The second the last word hit his lips he watched as the blonde standing by the door froze briefly, a flicker of shock across his face before an angry expression found its way to his face. Izuku could only stand and watch as the explosive boy high-tailed it out of there.
Letting out a huff, Izuku makes his way down to the pond outside their school grabbing the charred book out of the water before it becomes koi food. Stuffing it into his book bag he continues on his way.
Then the sludge villain and All Might happened and everything shattered to pieces.

Letting out a huff, Izuku makes his way down to the pond outside their school grabbing the charred book out of the water before it becomes koi food. Stuffing it into his book bag he continues on his way.
Then the sludge villain and All Might happened and everything shattered to pieces.
“Could someone without a quirk really become a hero?”
The words echoed in his head as he watched the empty courtyard below. The tears had stopped coming a while ago, they dried and stained his face. All he had to do was take one step, and everything would stop. All the voices in his head would stop and he’d finally be free. He’d be free from everything.
Taking a deep breath, he gets to his feet and turns around, a soft breeze blowing through his hair. It gently blows the green curls out of his face, illuminating the freckles just below his green eyes. A brief thought of his mother went through his mind but it was simply batted away. His mother would be better off without a quirkless freak like him as her son, he had already caused her enough grief.
The door to the roof bangs open and the last person he expected to see is standing in the doorway, Katsuki Bakugou.
“What are you doing?!” He seethes out in a huff, the flight of stairs he had to run up took its toll. The glinting shock in his eyes was prevalent but Izuku couldn’t place why. Kacchan never showed any other emotion but anger and confusion. He saw a slight hint of fear in his eyes for the first time.
Kacchan was scared and Izuku couldn’t see why.
“Get down!” Katsuki yells causing Izuku to flinch a little, “Get down!”
Izuku could only look at Katsuki in confusion, his eyes dull and his face lifeless. “Why…I’m nothing remember. I’m just a quirkless nobody, right?”
The green-haired boy turned away from the bully standing a few feet away, allowing his body to sway a little in the wind. “Maybe you’re right, Kacchan…” His voice barely audible, “Hopefully I’ll get lucky.”
It didn’t take but only a second for Izuku to release the breath he was holding, his shoulders relaxed as he stepped off the ledge. His body becomes weightless as falls, the ground getting closer and closer. He could hear Kacchan yell something but he couldn’t hear what it was, the only thing he could hear was the whistling of the wind and his heart beating in his chest.
The smile on his face falters as he feels something grab his foot and pull him up a little not before his head smacks against the hard concrete.
His body gets softly lowered to the ground as a voice tries to speak to him. He couldn’t understand what the voice was saying, it was muffled and sounded to far away. The darkness was calling him and he wanted to slip away from everything but a soft explosion caused his eyes to flutter.
Everything felt off, felt wrong…felt different.
That was until pain and cold filtered its way into his system, everything became vibrant as a red haze flickered into his vision. Everything was so vibrant, so loud, so clear. There was someone in front of him as they told him to lie still. A soft whimper proceeded to leave his lips as he tried to get into a sitting position. “Kid, you need to lay still. You hit your head pretty hard.”
He could feel something being pressed against his head. The metalid smell of blood hit his nose and it was like his senses lit up like a Christmas tree. “Was that his blood?”
“I-I don’t….I-I don’t…S-Something….”
“Help is on the way kid. Just stay still.”
Time seemed to warp. It was slow and fast all at once until he couldn’t keep his eyes open any longer and they slammed shut as all the breath in his body seemed to leave as it faded into nothingness the darkness provided.
“Deku! Open your eyes, you shitty nerd!!” Katsuki’s pleas only grew louder as he tried to fight against the adult cladded in black who tried to hold him away from Izuku. The eerie final breath that escaped the boys' lips put everything into perspective as Katsuki’s blood ran cold.
It wasn’t until the adult in front of him started doing CPR it put things into perspective. The shitty nerd did it. He did what he told him and took a swan dive off the roof, hoping he’d get a quirk in his next life. He stopped in his tracks and let everything come to a stop as he watched Izuku’s chest rise and fall with each compression, a steady rhythmic pattern falling into place.
The sirens got closer and closer but their noise seemed to be drowned out.
Midorya Izuku was gone and Bakugou Katsuki didn’t want to accept that.
