Work Text:

Sabi and Namkyung were walking from their early coffee run. That guy looks familiar, Sabi thinks, looking at a tall, black-haired male in the distance. They continue walking and eventually reach where the man was standing.

"Oh, Yeonjun? Hi!" says Sabi, waving with her hand. Namkyung greets him too.

Sabi asks, "What brings you here?"

"Oh, I'm here with Soobin to do a checkup." Smiling softly while saying his husband's name.

"Please don't tell me Soobin broke his leg or something this time." Jokes Namkyung.

Yeonjun laughs a little and says, "Oh, it's nothing; it's not bad. Just some regular tests and stuff."

"Are you guys here to say hi to Jaeil?" asks Sabi, curious as to why he was on this side of the hospital.

Just as she finishes her question, Jaeil walks towards them with a coffee in hand.

Jaeil greets Yeonjun energetically, clearly in a good mood. "Oh. Hi Yeonjun, what brings you here?"

"Coming to see my favourite hyung." Yeonjun replies teasingly while smiling wide. "
"Well, actually, I was here for a routine check-up and figured i should come say hi to you."

"Also, it's been like a month or two since we last saw each other."

"Yeah, I'm sorry; I'll make up for it, I swear."

"It's fine; Soobin and I have been very busy with the studio too since the mcountdown stage went viral."

Suddenly, Jaeil's phone rings. Being asked to go check on a patient, and runs away while excusing himself.

Yeonjun exclaims, "Aish, what's with this hyung always running places when you talk to him?" All of them looking in the direction Jaeil had run to.

"I'll tell you two a secret: it's not some routinary check up and I wasn't here exactly to see Jaeil hyung." He says sheepish while

"Please don't tell hyung, we haven't confirmed anything yet."

Something clicks in Namkyung and Sabi's minds, and they understand what he means.

Sabi raises her eyebrows and says, "You guys are...?" She does not finish.

Yeonjun listens attentively with wide eyes, trying to wait for her to finish, but he sees her hesitating and says while slowly nodding, "Not sure yet, but most probably yes."

He smiles and then he does a shushing motion with his index finger while looking at them.

Soon, a tired and pale-looking Soobin comes their way, a cotton swab in his arm from a blood analysis he had done in the morning. He greets the two women and tells Yeonjun it's their turn for the doctor, apologising for not staying longer while he drags Yeonjun along.

This leaves Namkyung and Sabi dumbfounded, just standing there processing what happened.

"OK... What just happened?" Namkyung says with wide eyes.

Sabi does not respond.

"I always thought Yeonjun would be the one to, you know..."

Sabi just looks at her, not muttering a word.

"Oh, don't look at me like that. I bet you thought that too when he was talking about it."

"Ok, I admit I'm guilty. I also don't think that's our business but wow, just wow." Sabi finally says.

"Jaeil is going to be so happy when he hears the news." Namkyung states.

"Do you think it's true that Soobin is pregnant?"

"I don't know, but Yeonjun probably has his reasons to be so sure."

And Yeonjun really had way too many, actually. Soobin had been feeling off lately; at first he was really tired when he got home from work, then he was tired all day. They chalked it down to how insanely busy they had been the past year, but then it became more complicated than just being tired. Soobin would feel cramping and have dizzy spells, the type where he would need to slowly get up because his vision would blur or it would happen out of nowhere.

Yeonjun had been worried sick about his husband's health; he wanted Soobin to take things easy as much as he could. They had talks about reducing his workload and how to make him feel better. Soobin sensed that this wouldn't just magically go away and it prompted him to really think about what could be actually happening, like did he have a virus? A tumour? It's probably not an emergency; I'm thinking too much. The stress sure does not help.

The same week, Soobin had stayed home one day because he was feeling under the weather. He assured Yeonjun that he was fine while the latter was heading out to work. Yeonjun wanted to stay home with him, but Soobin ushered him to go and said that if he really needed him, he would call him.

Soobin was determined not to do that; the new studio had just opened and they had a really good business deal in hand. They had been financially dependent on their families for a very long time, and they both felt sorry; their families supported their idol careers, university and their consequent business venture; they even paid for the old studio's remodelling and for some months of the rent when they decided to open their own studio.

When Yeonjun left, though, he was really questioning if he should have asked him to stay. Some time after Yeonjun left, Soobin had vomited all the contents of his stomach and was feeling really dizzy after, sitting slowly on the sofa and shutting his eyes while hugging a pillow, trying not to concentrate on the discomfort in his stomach.
He drank some water and lay on the sofa. He closed his eyes and thought about all the crazy things that had happened this last year. He rubbed his stomach and thought about his health. There was one possibility that he thought was improbable, almost impossible, out of a fantasy. But somehow it felt like an option, but he didn't want to get his or Yeonjun's hopes up.
They both loved kids, but maybe the timing was not the best; their apartment was too small and the opening of the dance studio was keeping them extremely busy.

Yeonjun got back to eat dinner with Soobin, and he found the younger napping on the sofa while hugging a pillow cute. He would rather not wake him up, so he started preparing a simple dinner. He wanted something easy to digest so he made a simple noodle soup with chicken meat. Yeonjun knelt down next to the sofa and caressed Soobin's cheek. he then pressed a kiss on his forehead and said gently, "Soobin-ah, wake up; dinner's ready."

Soobin opened his eyes groggily and yawned, then he saw Yeonjun staring at him with heart eyes and said huskily, "Hyung, you're back."
This made Yeonjun's heart melt. Soobin barely called him hyung anymore unless they were in bed or he really wanted something; it was cute and it made him want to protect the younger.

Smiling, Yeonjun helps Soobin sit up, seeing that the younger looked a little bit pale. They ate in silence, both tired after a long day. Soobin noticed that the older had changed clothes, making him confused. Yeonjun explains, "I have Hanbin covering my evening classes, so I'm not going anywhere."
Soobin exhaled, feeling his chest loosening with the breath. He was so glad Yeonjun was staying but he still said, staring down at the bowl of soup, "You didn't need to do that." And Yeonjun replies with a soft gaze, "But I wanted to."

Soobin finished the bowl quickly, relieved that his stomach was accepting the food. They both sat closely on the sofa, putting on a TV show as background noise; they were facing each other rather than the TV.
Soobin asked Yeonjun about how everything had gone at work. Yeonjun reassured him that everything was going really smoothly, all of their classes were being well booked and it had been a peaceful day overall.

Yeonjun thought that the only issue was that he and Soobin had too many classes right after another. They made the timetable before they had their friends work with them in the studio; for example, their friend Sung Hanbin started teaching just recently. He didn't voice these concerns, though, knowing that Soobin didn't need further stress today.

At some point the conversation died down, creating a comfortable silence. Soobin's mind raced and he thought of multiple scenarios but in the end, he decided to tell Yeojun his suspicions.

"Hyung, I think I might know why I've been feeling off lately..."

Almost in a whisper he continues, "I thought about all of the signs and I think I might be...pregnant?"

Even if it was barely audible, Yeonjun heard the words clearly. His eyes and mouth were wide open at the possibility. He knew it could happen but he didn't want to assume to hurt Soobin. Male pregnancies were uncommon; they both knew Soobin was able to conceive and they were open to it, they were not seriously trying but they did indeed not use contraceptives just in case. The doctor said it depended on whether their genes were compatible and many other factors.

When they were much younger, 20-year-old Soobin had a spontaneous miscarriage. They both didn't know he was pregnant in the first place and the doctor said the fetus was barely weeks old, but it broke Soobin. It had been a normal day for both; Yeonjunn remembers when his then boyfriend was suddenly bleeding, scared. He also remembers taking him to the hospital and the sleepless nights comforting Soobin. They were so young and clueless, and for Yeonjun, he kind of felt like it was his fault for not being careful; they both felt guilty and powerless.

It took Soobin years to make peace with it and for Yeonjun, he'd rather never have biological kids than have Soobin endure that thatagain.

This also made him think that maybe Soobin and him were just genetically incompatible. He and Soobin decided to go without contraceptives some time before the car crash and after almost two years nothing had happened, and he was fine with it. He remembers how shocked he was when Soobin proposed it, but he knew Soobin wouldn't do something he didn't want to do.

But this, this was too good to be true.

Yeonjun snaps back to the present, holding Soobin's hands with his trembling ones. He looks at him and asks, gasping for air, "Are you...sure?"

"Junnie, I think I am. It just...makes so much sense."

"I don't want to get my hopes up though." His shoulders dropping with his gaze.

Yeonjun hugs Soobin and soothes him, rubbing the younger's shoulder. Soobin curls into him, placing his head on Yeonjun's chest while tears escape his eyes.

"Hyung, I'm scared."

Yeonjun continues soothing him and says to his ear softly, "Bin-ah, it's OK. Hyung is here."

With a shaky voice, muffled by his cries, "But what if?..."

"Binnie this could be good. Whatever happens, we'll stay together through it like always."

"Let's go to the hospital tomorrow anyway; you shouldn't be hurting."

Soobin just nods with his head on Yeonjun's shoulder as his hands grip the older's t-shirt.

Not too long after, Soobin and Yeonjun cuddled on their bed. Yeonjun held Soobin and stroked his back with his palm in a calming rhythm. Yeonjun had too many thoughts on his mind.

Back to the present. Soobin and Yeonjun enter the doctor's office and sit down. Both of them are very nervous, with Soobin bouncing his leg and Yeonjun rubbing his thumb. They look at the doctor expectantly.

The doctor says she's looked at the results and congratulates them. Wait, she is congratulating them? Soobin thinks.

There's a heavy silence.

Then she starts saying some indications for them as well as vitamins and checkups. Soobin and Yeonjun are not listening, too astonished at the news. Yeonjun takes glances at Soobin, trying to see his reaction; meanwhile, Soobin looks zoned out while he continues bouncing his leg. It seems like he has so many thoughts on his mind.

Then, Yeonjun holds his hand, caressing it. The doctor asks them if they have any questions and Yeonjun looks at Soobin. He knows his husband has so many questions and honestly, he has many too.

"My husband...he had a miscarriage a couple of years ago. Could this impact this?" His voice trailing off, not knowing how to approach the topic. Soobin looks down at his hand on Yeonjun's.

"We are aware of Mr Choi's medical history; we cannot confirm anything yet until the baby has developed a little bit more. It's too early. All we can do is take care of the parent's condition for now, Mr.Choi seems to be under a lot of stress which is affecting him as it shows on his test results. We encourage to take much rest and eat well."

Yeonjun listens attentively at all the indications and tips the doctor gives them, writing down things mentally.

The doctor then reassures, looking at Soobin, "Almost all pregnancies turn out to be healthy after a early miscarriage. It might be scary, but we'll closely monitor everything."

Soobin looks up and thanks the doctor quietly, trying to let the news sink in.

"I teach dance, can I still do it now?" he asks.

"We recommend to take physical activities lightly, male pregnancies are often more risky and complicated and your test results indicate that your blood pressure is low. You also talked about your symptoms and they can be hard to manage in a physically demanding job. For now, I'll recommend doing it in moderation as long as you feel capable and stopping if you feel dizzy and avoid risky moves."

"I understand." Soobin says while nodding along.

They leave the doctors office with a appointment for the next checkup hand in hand. They walk outside to the parking lot and sit on the car in silence.

"Soobin-ah are you OK? you've been really quiet since the doctor told us."

"I-...I am happy, I'm shocked but I am happy. I want this, I do. I just need time."

"I know, I know. I am really happy too. We're going to have a little Soobin or Yeonjun running around."

"Do you think the timing is off? I mean we just reopened the studio and we're so busy..." His voice small.

"Bin-ah don't overthink it; there's no wrong or right time. We have tried for so long and now it's real. We can overcome everything together. We were trying to hire new people anyway, and I'm sure Hanbin and Minho don't mind taking more classes."

Soobin finally smiles, "So we're going to be parents, huh?"

Yeonjun smiles back, "Yes, baby, we are. And they're going to be the cutest."

They both laugh, like a weight is lifted. Soobin then says, "I have a couple of people in mind who are going to freak out. Damn, we're going to see Jaeil-hyung all the time."

About half a month after, Soobin and Yeonjun go to have their first ultrasound in a good mood. Everything goes smoothly and in the studio they managed to have Soobin only teach two kids classes a week, per Soobin's request, citing, "I still want to dance and help out; I would be so bored being at home or at the front desk all day."

They thought about how to tell Jaeil; out of their close friends, he was the only one left to know. Mostly due to their friends having some sort of participation in the studio and seeing each other really often.

They don't dwell on it much, though, opting for just telling him casually.

They find Jaeil while he's talking with some coworkers. He greets them with a big smile and leaves the previous conversation to chat with them.

"What bring you two here again?" Jaeil asks curiously, it was weird seeing them twice in the hospital in one month. There was no way they missed him that much, or maybe yes. Anyways, he just hopes they're both healthy.

Soobin smiles, showing his dimples. "Well hyung, we're going to be seeing each other often now."

Yeonjun adds laughing softly, "Very very often."

This confuses Jaeil as he stares at his dongsaengs, dumbfounded.

"Wha- What?" He blurts out.

This makes Yeonjun take the ultrasound picture from their folder and show it to him.

Jaeil stares at the document with too many questions in mind, he reads and sees everything on the piece of paper attentively.

Then it just clicks.

He exclaims excited while jumping in place, "Wow..wow is this real?"

Soobin and Yeonjun nod at him softly, finding their hyungs reaction cute.

Jaeil hugs Soobin first, and then reaches for Yeonjun to join too. And he says while letting go of them, a huge smile all across his face, "I'm going to be the best uncle ever."

Yeonjun jokes, "We're still waiting for some tips from you, Mr. senior resident."

The older male stares at him, deep in though. Jaeil's mind is racing, he needs to make this experience the best for his dongsaengs. He didn't study for so long to not be of help. He has so many medical questions he wants to asks, but he'll have to do that in another moment to not overwhelm them.

That night, Jaeil goes back to the residents room and announces the big news loudly, "I'm going to be an uncle." And they all congratulate him cheerfully, Namkyung and Sabi acting as if they didn't knew it before him.

They each finish wrapping up things and head back home.

Meanwhile, the group chat without Jaeil explodes with messages:

Kim Sabi

Uff, finally

it was so difficult trying not to say it

Pyo Namkyung

It wasn't that difficult

But it was funny seeing you so flustered.

Ku Dowon

You guys already knew this?

Namkyung

We met them some weeks ago and they basically told us

On another topic, Am I the only one who never thought that Soobin could be the bottom?

Ku Dowon

Yah, that's private business you shouldn't think about that

Kim Sabi

Namkyung and I were surprised

Oh Yiyoung

Clock it, it's so obvious

Ku Dowon

Truth be told, I saw it too

I don't know why you two don't get it

Notes:

Some random lore:
Truth is Soobin and Yeonjun switched, though Soobin likes being controlled and often prefers to botton and biologically only he can carry, so they weren't entirely wrong; it's just that Yiyoung and Dowon were more close to the correct answer. And for around a year or two after the miscarriage, Soobin only topped because of the trauma.

When they announced their apperance on the show, we all thought they were getting an actual cameo but got them on a karaoke screen lol. Imagine this scenario as the cameo, Jaeil's old bandmates showing up as his patients hahahah.
