Chapter Text
Waking up on hot, sweaty mornings was always the worst. The breeze barley reached through the tiny crack of the slightly opened window and the birds complained non stop. Duvet sheets were thrown on the floor and the whirring of the old fan in the background was never a pleasant sound.
Getting up was what sucked the most, hair all ruffled up in a mess with strands sticking together from the sweat. The almost see-through t-shirt clung to his skin giving his flesh an awful feeling. It was horrible.
He never understood the joy of the heat, his lollipops melted quicker causing him to run out sooner and he wanted to contribute even less. Especially on patrol, walking around with the scorching sun blazing on him was always a dread. It didn't help he was wearing hoodies most of the time, if it got past 25°C he would lose the hoodie and wear a normal shirt.
It became even worse now, some teachers decided to start teaching aside from bookwork. This includes physical education, the absolute worst. Lots of students tried to complain saying "we already fight often isn't that enough" but the teachers didn't care, they said that not all students got up to fighting constantly therefore need to exercise and what better way than a p.e lesson.
That's how Kaji got into his small football team. One that consisted of Him, the vice captains and a 8 other classmates of 2-1. None of which were good at football, some of them knew basic rules and 1 of them was on his team in primary school- as a ball boy. So they weren't good at all. But their p.e teacher Mrs. Ono insisted they were good and must have a practice match.
Walking was dreadful, Kaji dragged his feet along the burning concrete, he left his hoodie at home and instead wore a grey t-shirt. His jacket was on, though he'd probably lose it soon.
Kusumi and Enomoto waited for his arrival at their usual spot. A small bakery that made delicious croissants and coffee. Kaji always had to get something. He loved the bakery very much and the elderly couple working there was very sweet to him.
“Ah my favourite 3 customers! Always a pleasure to see you?”
Hana exclaimed, her husband quickly walked behind her with a huge grin on his face and a big greeting:
“Kaji! Kusumi! Enomoto! I’m so glad to see you!! It’s a hot day today. How about some ice cold lemonade… on the house!” Koki proudly offered as he held Hana’s hand swaying back and forth a bit.
Enomoto, being the most talkative, stepped forward shaking his hands back and forth.
“Ah how sweet of you but we have to pay you sometimes we don't want you going out of business”
It was a truly heartwarming moment. A talk between an adorable elderly couple and 3 highschool heros.
In the end they paid for half of what they brought and got the rest for free. Hana and Koki happily waved them off as they continued their exhausting walk to school.
The walk was quiet, there wasn't much to say so they admired the lovely town and beautiful surroundings. The lanterns swayed in the barely noticeable wind. It really made Kaji jealous, wishing he could feel the breeze as well.
Biting into his croissant was a delight, the flaky texture was so easy to eat and had a slightly sweet taste. It was just perfect, Kaji was a sucker for sweet things. The croissant wasn't so thick so even after he eats it he doesn't have a stuffed, dry throat though he still guzzled down his lemonade which was slightly zingy but it was the perfect cold drink in this weather. It really was a great breakfast.
Once they finished the hot walk and arrived at school they made their way to class 2-1 where the absolute nightmare would begin. From opening the door all eyes were on them. Each person's eyes peered towards them watching their every movement. They looked like tigers watching their prey waiting to pounce. Until one got the guts to do so:
“Kusumi heyy!! You're the most reliable here, you heard the news right?” One guy yelled.
“Ahh i remember that, i hate the idea” Yelled Another.
“Oh yeah, it wasn't that bad!” And another.
“Pfft funny joke, no one wants to do p.e at school” And another.
Kaji was already tired listening to their crap so he put his headphones on and sat on his chair next to the big windows.
Kusumi grabbed out his phone and began rapidly typing something out. The skill he's learnt from talking through text for so long was truly amazing. He could type a huge paragraph in seconds.
‘I did hear it sounds a bit like an annoyance (ᗒᗩᗕ) though it also seems fun playing team sports with everyone, it might teach us more about teamwork when it comes to fighting ✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧’ He typed out and then flipped his phone around to show everyone. A few minutes of silence went by then once people finished reading it the whole class cheered. He really was a spirit booster.
