"I thought you'd like this because it reminded me of you. It's really nothing but I thought you should have it." Tomas said in that tone that seemed uninterested but actually kept lots of feelings hidden, his hands reaching for something that was hidden deep in one of the pockets of the bright colored jeans he was wearing.
"Huh, a gift? Really?" The man who was sitting by his side on the couch was stunned, he really thought it was a joke. His friend had really thought that much about him?
Well, he course he did, all those interviews even before the semifinals for that one contest he had gotten disqualified from... EVERYONE knew Tammemets cared about his "dear friend", but the usual expression he kept on his face still made it hard to believe, like it was just another one of his elaborate jokes or crazy st-untz.
People would never let him live that one, and that was fine, he loved the attention he got from that.
The brunette didn't say anything, instead, he just looked into those shiny blue eyes Joost had with a level of intensity that spoke – Of course he cared, he was that important to him and he really tried his best to defend the blonde's honor.
"Here, if you don't like it just give it back"
Joost was a bit confused when a little clear piece of glass fell onto his hands, what did this mean?...
It was as if someone had dropped a bottle in a party and the estonian thought, 'Ah, yes, a great gift for my friend who can't be here because last time they almost arrested him for nothing'.
But of course it meant something, because Tommy never did anything that didn't mean something, one just needed to see through the many layers, like the onions Joost loved so much.
He needed to think, because it could mean anything.
As he held it on his fingers and looked through it, the small and sharp points of it dug into his skin and tried to hurt him. It really was like having his biggest dream on the palm of his hand, something precious yet dangerous that could snap at you at any moment.
It was also completely crystal clear in spite of being from something that broke so violently, it reminded him of one of the only funny things that happened on that night he was not allowed to perform, when Nemo broke the trophy while celebrating their win.
Oh... was it?...
They were both silent for a moment, until the Dutch finally cut the silence, shaking the other man's shoulders with a big silly smile on his face.
"Tommy... you really went there just to try and get me the trophy?" He laughed, in that breathy way that used up lots of air, but his tone got serious pretty quickly.
"I really want to see if your untz untz never lies."
Tammemets was speechless for a second, but he laughed too, something not many people could say they have seen.
"You can't be that easy Joost!"
"No, I mean it, let's fuck, I love this"
Had the little piece of glass meant that much? It was really just a piece of glass...
But yes, he had intended to give him the trophy if he came in first, something he didn't accomplish, in the end.
"I can bark Tommy! I didn't make 'filthy dog' because I'm a saint!, woOF WOOF WOOF"
Now the scene really looked crazy, but Joost really did look like the tallest golden retriever and that was kind of adorable in the eyes of the shorter man, who smiled genuinely.
Was he first place? No, not even close officially — third second place was still amazing though — but if he was first place in Klein's heart, that was enough for him.
