He showed up at the hospital after overhearing Misbah talking about Lucas' condition. He hates himself for not being there with him to help him through it. He starts replaying everything in his head and he now realises why Lucas didn't show up to save him.
He arrives at reception and he asks them where Lucas' room is.
"Can I help you?" A woman asked him.
"Yeah, I'm looking for Lucas Hay's room"
"Are you family?"
"I'm his boyfriend" it's not a total lie. He and Lucas were going to Egypt together to try and get their relationship back on track.
"His room is down the corridor to the left" she told him.
"Thank you" Dillon says, walking towards Lucas' room.
He enters the room and his heart sank when he saw Lucas' lifeless body in the bed. He pulls up a chair and sits down beside him, taking his hand in his and stroking it. He should've been there.
"I'm so sorry" his voice breaks.
"I should've been there for you but instead, I got involved with Rex because I wanted us to have a better future. You warned me that he was bad news and I didn't listen. I guess it's my fault for thinking he actually had my best interests at heart. Getting involved with him cost me everything. If you can hear me, I just want you to know that I'll be here waiting for you. I love you and being with you is the only thing that makes sense to me right now. When you wake up, I hope you can give me a second chance to make things right. I know I don't deserve it, especially after everything that's happened. You could've given up on me but you didn't. So I'm not gonna give up on you or us. We're in this together and I'm not letting you leave again, okay? So please, just wake up"
Dillon looks up and sees Ste standing in the doorway and he didn't even realise he was there.
"Sorry. How long have you been there?" Dillon asks.
"Long enough to know that you're not in the right state of mind" Ste coldly replies.
"What are you even doing here?"
"I heard about what happened so I wanted to see him"
"You have now so you can leave" Ste says.
"What? I'm not going anywhere"
"Dillon-"
"No. Who do you think you are? You already took me away from him once and I'll be damned if I'm gonna let you do it again"
"Lucas needs calm during his recovery, not more problems"
"No, what he needs is love and support and I know I'm not the best right now but I can give that to him" Dillon pleads.
"I know how to take care of my own son"
"Really? So where were you when he was being groomed by Carter? That's right, you were too busy with James and covering up Ella's murder that you forgot he even existed. You always paid attention to Leah more than him. Well, guess what? I was there for him throughout it all and I'm gonna be there for him during his recovery whether you like it or not"
Ste stays silent for a minute before eventually breaking that silence.
"Looks like I can't stop you"
"No, you can't and when Lucas finds out about you sending me away, he'll never forgive you"
Ste realises that he was being too harsh on Dillon. It's not his fault that Lucas had a brain tumour and that he was being groomed by Rex so he apologises.
"I'm sorry about that. I just wanted him to have the surgery and he was refusing it because he wanted to go with you to Egypt. And about Rex, I'm sorry for what he did to you. You didn't deserve it and I should've listened to Lucas when he was telling me to stay away"
"You and me both"
"I know you're going through withdrawal right now and as a recovering addict, it does get easier as time goes on. You just need to let the people around you be there for you and help you. If it wasn't for Tony never giving up on me, I wouldn't have gotten the help I needed. I know when Lucas wakes up, he's gonna be there for you no matter what. And that includes me, if you'll let me"
"Ofcourse. Thank you"
Lucas starts to stir and both Ste and Dillon quickly jump up and call for a nurse.
"Lucas? Hey, can you hear us?" Dillon says.
Lucas slowly opens his eyes and they land on Dillon who has the biggest smile on his face.
"Hey" Lucas says, rubbing Dillon's face.
