Work Text:

                                  The Iliads

In the woodlands of Virgina, there were two demigods each only five years old, there was to be only one that was known. Their mother Janice Chance, was searching for her daughter, Alice, when she saw something that looked like a bear, but much, much, more sinister. Then it pounced. And what she was looking for, was never found, until a while from about…now.

Evie Chance was always working nowadays, ever since she turned 12. She had finally convinced her Nana(a.k.aGrandma) to let her dye her midnight black hair a beautiful blue at the tips. She worked in her Nana’s shop, The Granite Palace. It was a rock climbing place, and her Nana was paying her to work there. She felt that she had the upper hand because of her height. She was very tall.

Today there was a steady stream of customers, one in particular caught her eye. It was Shana Garner, the mean girl from her former school. “Oh look” she said, “It's the grade school dropout.” “Ha ha. You know I got expelled because Mrs. Shelly made up a story about how I used my ADHD to cheat on the finals to get an A.” said Evie “You were the one who cheated.” ”Where is the proof then?” Shana smirked “Well hurry up. I’m a paying customer.”she said as she stepped into the harness “Fine” said Evie, and she hoisted her up.

A week later at her house she was on the porch reading a book, when she heard an odd noise that jolted her back 7 years into the past. She half heard a little kid crying and a roar. She remembered a name, Alice. Who was she? Then she heard the same roar, but not like before. That snapped her out of her stupor. Then she saw a thing coming out of the woods. And acting on pure instinct, she ran to the pool (she had one connecting to her house), yanked open the door and started yelling at it to get it’s attention. It ran towards her and at the last second she jumped out of the way, and it barreled in, then for some reason she thought DOWN! And amazingly the water obeyed!

Then she saw a boy and a girl running after it. When they got closer they were astonished when they saw her in one piece. The boy ran past and the girl stopped in front of her. “How are you still alive?” she panted “I don’t know” Evie replied. While the girl was catching her breath. Evie looked at the boy and saw him stab the thing! ”What!” she exclaimed “How did you do that” “Do what?” the boy replied “Stab it! With your sword” she said “What sword?” hiding it behind his back“The one behind your back!” she said as she lunged and grabbed it. “Hey!” he said “What is this” she replied dangling it in front of him. “It’s Celestial bronze” said a new voice. Evie whirled around the sword still in hand. “Whoa!” said the girl. “Please put that down” “Okay” said Evie, and she threw it into the pool. “Hey!” said the boy “That’s mine!”

“Who are you? said Evie. “I’m Annabeth.” said the girl. “He’s Percy.” “Hi.” said Percy. “Why were you chasing that thing?” said Evie. “It was going to kill us.” Percy said. “Fair point.” replied Evie “But why did it want to kill you?” “Because we’re demigods” Annabeth answered “And before you ask demigods are-”

“Whoa” said Percy “Are you sure” “Yes Percy I’m sure” Annabeth replied, then she continued “Demigods are children of mortals and gods, like us.” “REally” said Evie, voice full of skepticism. “Yes” Annabeth replied “More specifically the children of greek gods, I’m the daughter of Athena, he’s the son of Poseidon. You must be one because of the Mist.” “What is the Mist?” said Evie “The Mist is what twists the mortals' sight and keeps them from seeing monsters, gods, and other things.” Annabeth said” However if you are a demigod or one of the very very few mortals who can see through the mist, you are exempt from this.” “How do you know I’m not a “mortal“ '' Evie shot back

''Well” said Annabeth testily “Do you know about both of your parents?” “Yes” replied Evie, surprised. “My mom was killed by a bear, and I never knew my dad, he was lost at sea the year I was born.” Percy put his palm on his forehead. “Really” he said “Really?!” “Why is he like this” she asked Annabeth

“Well,” she replied “his mom told him that his father was lost at sea.” “So you think that I’m a daughter of Poseidon!”said Evie, astonished “Do you have any powers over water?” asked Annabeth “I guess so” Evie replied “Who do you live with?” said Annabeth “ I live with my Nana” replied Evie “Is she a light sleeper?”said Annabeth.

“No, should I get her?” said Evie “Fine” said Annabeth. And Evie went and got her. After they talked a bit Percy told her about Camp Halfblood. Evie had a theory that she could travel through water. So she tried it.With a nod and a hug from her Nana, stepped in the water. She was surprised to not feel wet, then she concentrated on what Percy had told her and she felt herself dissolving into water. Going, going, gone!
