Work Text:
Kankri half lidded watched his answering machine. he was bleeding out on the floor, legs too tired to crawl, vocal cords ripped so he couldn't scream out. he was going to die on his floor. He looked up at the machine as he heard his mothers voice come from it.
"hello? This is your mother Kankri, are you there? are you coming home for the holidays like you promised? Hello? are you there? I have to go now, Karkat is screaming and throwing a fit, call me when you can answer."
Kankri's shakey finger gathered blood and he slowly wrote "I love you mom" next to him. he loved his mother, he really did. But its too late to let her know. Kankri let out a breath he didn't know he was holding and closed his eyes slowly. He had been planning his trip back home for weeks, already booking the flight and working out a list of things he planned to do while he was there with his family.
He'd be able to hug his mother, listen to his father babble on about something for hours, and hold his brother's hand and watch him babble and bounce around happily. He'd make good on his promise to watch movies with his mother and get a good night's sleep in his old room with all his stuff he'd left when he moved out. God he missed them so much.
Kankri smiled softly as he closed his eyes for the final time that night. Maybe he can meet them again in heaven like his father always used to say. He could hug and carry his little brother again, his brother could grow older then him. Kankri's head got fuzzy as he continued to think, maybe its time to say goodbye.
