Work Text:

“Oi nerd! Why are you acting so weird?” Bakugo asked gruffly, his face pulled taut in his signature scowl.

“You don't like my food or what? You think you're too good for Alfredo? Huh?” He continued, gruff voice now tinged with something else, questioning, or maybe even a bit of insecurity perhaps?

It's been a while he made a meal for the viridian eyed greenette sitting across from him, and in all honesty he doesn't know if he actually eats anything other than katsudon. He started to feel a coil in his stomach, something he couldn't name settling deep. He squatted it away - why does he even care if the dumb nerd liked his cooking?

“No no, K-kacchan, it's really not like that! The Alfredo sauce it's really good!”

He cleared his throat, lips pursing uncomfortably still twirling the steaming pasta, then continued, “I like what you did with the cream, it's been a long time since I had something this...” - another cough - "...good."

That's when Katsuki noticed it, the nerd's strange behavior. It's not the fact he didn't add a ‘you're amazing kacchan’ in that chipper voice - not that. It's not like he cared or anything, it's not like that simple sentence sparked a little reaction at the base of his chest, definitely not that.

He's gasping now, clearing his throat and sputtering into relentless coughing.

The suspicious flush on the greenette’s face is more pronounced now, patches of red over his forehead, chin and cheeks, making his freckles pop. There seems to be more now; on his nose bridge, around his nose, and a lucky few around his eyebrows.

Eyebrows that are twitching minutely,

He's in pain?! Bakugo thought, heart jumping to his throat.

He leaned over the table plates and cutlery clattering in the process. He held the puffy red cheeks in his hands, looking into dazed green eyes, lips purses and slightly swollen. A lather of sauce on his lips and down his chin alongside saliva from his previous coughing.

“Hey nerd! What's wrong with you?! Come on! Oi, you dumb Deku!”

Deku’s eyes were watering as he tries -and fails- to assure the explosive blonde that he's alright.

This is the only free time they were able to scrape together since the nomu attacked, now with Hawks and Endeavour weakened after the fight with the Nomu, and coincidentally all for one laying dormant it isn't known when the next catastrophe would strike.

He got so happy when kacchan invited him over for lunch, beaming the entire time, it's a miracle that the king lord explosion murder hasn't thrown him out.

And now he just had to ruin it. How dumb could he be? It was shrimp Alfredo! What made him think he could eat it and just be okay?

Not even one for all could stop the clamping of his throat and wrangled noises he keeps making. Breathing as slowly as he could through his clogged nose proved to be the wrong move as he broke out in coughs.

Waving his hands frantically as the other one clutched at his throat. His sight started to blur, Katsuki blurring as well, he couldn't hear anything he was saying, only feeling Kacchan’s comforting warmth as he held him.

If he was in a better state he would've felt his heart beating out of his chest.

It was a while before he came around - the sharp antiseptic smell stinging his nose, the dull beeping lulling him back to sleep as he felt strangely relaxed. He could breathe a little better, he noticed.

“You dumb fuck was I meant to know you're allergic to fucking shellfish or was I just meant to find out this way huh?!” He thundered into the hospital room, angry red eyes and poofed up spiky hair.

Midoriya thought that he looked like an angry cat, laughing a little at the comparison, sputtering into a cough.

“Fucking shit!” Bakugo cursed quietly, zipping through the room and getting water off the bedside table, a hand on the back of Midoriya’s head as he helped him drink.

Bakugo chose not to take notice of how soft Deku's curls felt, or even his lips around the edge of the cup dampened by the water, Deku always had full lips, lips he thinks about more often than not.

Bakugo flushed a deep red as Deku rested his fingers on his arm, grateful the green haired hero-in-training couldn't see him.

“I missed you Kacchan.” The said green haired man confessed pink-faced, hands now holding his own wrapped around the glass.

“It's been a while since we... hung out like this.” He continued, big green eyes looking straight into his, a small smile on his freckled face.

Bakugo stared back- he couldn't do anything else- he could feel his cheeks warming up, trying to ignore the nameless feelings bubbling up within him.

“Y-yeah,” He croaked awkwardly, “It's been a while”.
