Work Text:
Lloyd loved to admire the beauty of things.
Admittedly he wasn't good at it sometimes, but it helps him get out of his own head and appreciate the good life had to give, instead of the overwhelming bad.
Lloyd was actually doing better because all the super big battles weren’t super catastrophic all things considered. An evil snake witch or an evil video game weren’t super bad.
But he could never be happy for long, could he?
After Nya left, admiring any beauty got a lot harder.
Then after Nya came back he barely saw her, because he was in prison. Lloyd didn’t even get to start to recover from Nya leaving when the scum of the earth of whom he thought was dead came back and fucked him up all over again. Those few hours back in the Primeval’s Eye were the worst of his life.
There was one thing that helped him though. Or rather, one person.
Lloyd lived with his amazing boyfriend, Brad, in his apartment during the time Nya was gone, and now that the monastery was rebuilt Brad had agreed to move in with him. Lloyd spent most of his time with Brad, the events of the battle with the Crystal King still hurt to think about. Her especially.
But, Lloyd wanted to see the good, and the beauty in things. Luckily he had a good and very beautiful thing with him at all times.
Lloyd and Brad sat on their shared bed, Lloyd watching and listening intently to his boyfriend ranting about all the types of flowers, and how the type and color of the flowers had different meanings. Lloyd loved it when Brad talked about the things he loved. He always got so excited, and seemed so happy.
He looked gorgeous while doing so as well.
Yes, Lloyd thought that Brad was always gorgeous, but there was something about him that seemed to glow when he talked. Some secret part of him, only revealed to Lloyd, and Lloyd wanted to capture that part of him and hold it forever. And yet, Lloyd could never find a single word that could describe that. No word or phrase could describe the way Brad looked in these moments, the way Lloyd felt, and the want for Lloyd to keep Brad with him forever. His love was one the only constants in his chaotic life.
Then Brad said something that stood out to Lloyd.
“You know, I love blue flowers.” He had said. “They mean peace, tranquility, and serenity. It also symbolises love, affection, and desire though. Bluebells are super pretty though, and they symbolize gratitude, and everlasting love.”
This gave Lloyd an idea, and the next day he bought some bluebells, and told Brad to meet up in the park at 5:00.
“So what’s this about?” Brad had asked him after he sat next to him on the bench at the park where they met up.
“Nothing all that special.” Lloyd said, smiling and holding the small bouquet of bluebells behind his back. “You know how most mornings when we wake up you start talking a bunch?” He asked. Brad gave him an affectionate, but confused smile.
“Yeah, why?” He asked.
“Well those times mean a lot to me. I love admiring the beauty of the world, and it’s been getting harder lately. But when I watch you talk, I don’t want the world to see, I just want you for me. And I just, can’t find the right for it, or even if that's normal, but then you said something that stood out to me.” Lloyd took Brad’s hand in his free one, and pulled the bluebells from behind his back. Brad gasped.
“You said that bluebells stand for gratitude and everlasting love right?” Lloyd asked, his face flushed and smiling like an idiot. Brad nodded. “Well, there isn’t a word in the dictionary that can describe your type of beauty, or what you mean to me, but I thought a flower might.”
Brad’s face flushed and small tears pricked his eyes as he took the bouquet.
“Lloyd,” He said quietly. “I don’t- why?” He took a deep breath. “You're amazing. I love you so much.” Brad cupped Lloyd’s cheek with his free hand, and leaned down a bit to kiss him.
Lloyd melted into the kiss. He held onto Brad’s wrist while slightly tilting his head. His kisses were almost as good as watching him talk, and admiring him.
Brad pulled away, and Lloyd loved the look on his face.
“Lloyd.” Brad chuckled slightly, “Seriously, did I miss an anniversary or something?”
Lloyd chuckled. “No. I just love you a lot.”
Brad smiled, and they walked hand in hand back home.
A pot with bluebells in it now sat at a windowsill. Being watered every morning while the sound of affections, sickly sweet, but poetic, filled the room.
