We had a falling out.
Such innocuous phrasing to describe an abrupt, tumultuous end.
But what else could you say?
How can you explain your most central, core relationship to people who can never understand?
We fought together.
We ran away together.
We fought each other.
We ran away from each other.
You can’t. There are no true words to describe what has happened between the two of you.
So instead you say you had a falling out, and you leave it at that.
And when push comes to shove, he comes back.
Of course he does.
He’s your brother.
