Work Text:
Yaz opened and shut the door, slipping into their flat as quietly as she possibly could. She hung up her coat, and padded carefully through to the living room.
The space was mostly dark but for the cosy orange-yellow glow of the little lamp on the side table. As she’d expected, the Doctor lay half asleep and sprawled across the purple sofa, the book she’d been reading lying open next to her on the floor.
Yaz shook her head, smiling fondly, and pushed a piece of the Doctor’s hair out of her face before kissing her girlfriend gently on the forehead. The Doctor stirred, opening her eyes and looking up at Yaz.
“I thought I told you not to wait up.” She whispered, not even trying to sound annoyed.
“Yeah, well, that was never happening, was it?” The Doctor mumbled, sitting up to pull Yaz into a quick hug.
“No.” Yaz agreed. “I suppose not. We should go to bed now, though. It’s one in the morning, and you’ve got work tomorrow.”
“I do…good point. Got to test the new prototype.” The Doctor smiled, still a little sleepy.
“Come on then.” She took the Doctor’s hand to pull her up, but the Doctor decided not to let go, following her to the bathroom so she could brush her teeth. She slipped her arms around Yaz’s waist, resting her head on her shoulder and breathing in the comforting scent of her hair. Yaz tried not to grin too much as she brushed her teeth.
She eventually had to push the Doctor off gently so that she could get her pyjamas on, and the Doctor reluctantly left her side to crawl into bed. Yaz shook her head, grinning, and quickly settled under the covers next to her girlfriend who, already half asleep, made a noise of contentment and slipped her arms around Yaz to hold her close. She buried her face in Yaz’s neck, pressing a few gentle kisses there and sighing softly.
Yaz smiled to herself as she drifted off. This moment, right here, was absolutely perfect.
