destruction

Summary:

prompt: “The world was burning, but it was beautiful and I loved its warmth.”

Work Text:

Just a tiny spark and the world goes up in flames.

What good is a world like this anyways? One where kings believe they’re gods who have defeated all the monsters. But the kings are the true monsters who plague this world.

I grew tired of the same old routine of being oppressed by one leader after the other. My family, my friends, and the love of my life all suffered endlessly. That is, until the monsters destroyed them.

That was the final straw.

Careful planning, gathering resources, gaining allies. For months I prepared. I planned the mission—plant an explosive in every important room in the castle of the most corrupt king. I know that not everyone in that castle deserves to die, but their lives are sacrifices I’m willing to make for the greater good.

I didn’t let anyone else take the mission—this had to be me. I was the one who needed to finish what I started and have all those royal deaths on my conscience.

I planted the bombs in the night, set the timer, and regrouped with my allies. I didn’t consider anyone a friend at this point. All my friends were gone. My love was gone. This plan, this rebellion, this war was all I had left.

And so, as the bombs went off, I took in the destruction that I knew was only the beginning. But I couldn’t help but think that the world as I knew it was burning. But the warmth was lovely and the destruction was beautiful.
