Chapter 1: Pilot
I sat beside Izuku, giggling as he tried grabbing one of the fish inside of the lake before us. His dark green hair glistened in the sunlight, his grin bright as he gave up and laid back on the grass.
I eventually did too, looking over at him from the corner of my eye. He looked so…peaceful. His eyes were closed, but I could tell he knew I was gazing at him, so I looked away.
I looked up at the icy blue sky, wondering just how much longer I’d be able to keep this up. I hoped I wouldn’t have to leave him behind. I hoped I wouldn’t have to stop seeing him, but I’d hate for him to see me hooked up to machines.
I want to be able to live like he can. I want to be able to move without feeling as if I will crumble. I want to be able to breathe without a sharp feeling piercing my lungs. I want to be able to be a hero.
I know he wants that too.
We both want to be heroes, quirkless or self-destructive.
Even though Izuku might not have a quirk, I believe that one day he will surpass all of us, and he will become the greatest hero the world has ever seen.
I believe that Izuku will become the number one hero, no matter the outcome.
Izuku will strive and he will prevail.
He always has.
He always will.
I took a deep breath, my eyes slowly fluttering closed as I laid beside Izuku. My body relaxed beside his, like two pieces of a puzzle. I could hear his faint breathing in the cold Spring air, making my heart pound at just the right rhythm.
I wish I could lie here forever.
But forever wouldn't be enough.
