Work Text:
Usually to Alban, summer vacation meant being dragged out of his house against his will, forced to go to random house parties with his friends and freaking out in the morning when he wakes up in a random person’s house. Amongst the things that his friends also force him to come along with are activities that he hates most. Like hiking for example, when Luca told him that they’d only be going on a “short walk”, which ended up with the (severely unprepared) group hiking up a random mountain, and Alban going home with burning blisters on his feet. It was safe to say that Alban definitely isn’t an outdoor person, or a summer person.
Though, summer this year was different. He was making plans in his head, writing them down on his notes app, adding event notifications to his calendar app even though they weren’t even confirmed yet all because of a certain Sonny Brisko. Typically, Alban would only be able to hang out with Sonny on weekends, and even then that time wasn’t enough for the both of them, the pair more often than not having more and more things that they wanted to do together. What better time to seize than summer vacation, right? The brunette had practically crafted up the perfect plan on how the two of them could spend the whole 2 weeks together!
However, after all of his planning, Alban soon got news that it was all for nothing. Sonny had told him that his family was planning on a trip to Japan for the whole 2 weeks, one that he wouldn’t be able to escape. The world crumbled, or atleast Alban’s world did when Sonny broke the news to him. A front was put up, the brunette trying to not seem too disappointed when he tells Sonny that it’s okay (a lie) and that he already had plans with other people anyways (also a lie). Now, Alban was at the mercy of his friends again, no longer able to use his genius excuse of being “busy” and actually having somewhere to go instead of getting blackout drunk at another gross house party (seriously, what’s so fun about those anyway?!)
Days go by slower than the brunette had hoped, much slower without Sonny with him. It just wasn’t the same when he knew that the blonde was all the way across the Earth from him, in a whole other continent. Texts are exchanged between the two of them every hour of the day, mostly of Alban texting Sonny about the places that he’s going to and him being jealous of the beautiful sights in the pictures that Sonny sends him. It’s not how Alban had planned to spend summer, but it’s at least better compared to not being able to talk to Sonny at all during the entire time that he wouldn’t be here.
Even after a week of the two of them being apart, Alban still hadn’t gotten used to the time zone shift yet. Every time he texts Sonny “goodnight” or “good afternoon”, the brunette never seems to remember that it’s the complete opposite time in Japan right now. Especially on a certain midnight when he’s feeling loneliest, Alban couldn’t help but text Sonny in hopes that the blonde had some time to spare for him. He’s been trying to hold off from asking Sonny to spare time for him, not wanting to seem like a clingy girlfriend or something even though the two of them weren’t dating.
> me
Sanii
Are you out?
I know it’s the afternoon right now
“ Ughhh. What am I doing?!” Alban yells at himself internally, burying his face into the cat plushie that Sonny had won for him from an arcade, yet still filled with hope when he saw the typing indicator bubble pop up.
> Sonny loml !!!
Nope, I get to relax today. Told my mom my feet hurt.
What’s up, Albie?
God, that nickname even through text managed to make his heart skip a beat. Maybe it’s just that he’s sleepy though. Whatever it was, it’s a blessing that Sonny wasn’t going shopping or walking around on who knows what street again today.
> me
Oh!
In that case
Can I call you
Just until I fall asleep
Not even a second after Alban sends that last text, he dies internally again. He’s definitely sounding super corny right now, but Sonny wouldn’t care, right? The blonde couldn’t ever say no to anything Alban asked for, so he surely wouldn’t this time.
> Sonny loml !!!
Of course!
Give me a second, I need to get on my laptop
Start it whenever you’re ready.
Alban’s kicking his feet at this point, immediately sitting up and making sure that his volume wasn’t turned up too high. He debated putting some earbuds in, but that wouldn’t be too comfortable. He was trying to fall asleep anyways! After taking in a deep breath, he clicks on the call button, only to miss it and click on video call instead. There’s a wave of panic that washes over him, trying desperately to end the call before Sonny picked up, yet luck was not on his side this time. The blonde’s face popped up, him sitting at a desk as the sun shined on his face. Alban tried his best to act natural, spamming the brightness button on his laptop key to turn it down so that the light didn’t fry his eyes.
“Hey.”
Sonny was the first one to speak, making Alban smile even though he didn’t even say anything funny. Damn, he’s whipped as hell. C’mon, get it together Alban! The brunette blinked sleepily, leaning further into his pillow. The blonde’s looking so casual, yet here he is freaking out over seeing his face after not being able to for a week.
“Hi.”
His response comes out a little awkward, almost unnatural, yet it brings out laughter from Sonny. Alban’s face almost instantly flushed red, though it was unnoticeable to Sonny over the shitty quality of Alban’s laptop camera and the darkness of the brunette’s room. The brunette has half a mind to just end the call and snap his laptop shut, but he can’t do that after waiting all week to finally have this moment. A moment where he could talk to Sonny for real. Pushing his embarrassment aside, Alban inches closer to his laptop, hoping that the camera would do his face justice.
“Don’t laugh at me Sani! It's not funny.”
Alban doesn't realize that his voice comes out whinier than he wants it to be, but it was too late for that anyways. He sees how Sonny’s expression lights up, and he smiles a little more in return too.
“Of course, of course. I'm just happy cuz I haven't seen your face in awhile.”
All over again, Alban finds himself tumbling and falling over Sonny’s words. Damn this man! How was he so smooth? It's got to be illegal for him to just be able to say those things so casually, right?
“I mean, yeah. Me too! I'm jealous of all the other people that get to see you”
It comes out playful, eliciting more laughter from Sonny. Even though it's delayed on Alban's end, he knows that Sonny’s still finding him fun. That's good.
“You don't have to be, Auban. I'm all yours when I get back.”
Again, with the casual, smooth flirting. Was he flirting? Alban wasn't really sure, but that has to be flirting, right? Whatever, it was way too late for him to be thinking about it that much.
“Yeah, you better be. You've been away from me for way too long already!”
Speaking of the time, the brunette begins to shuffle himself downwards as he holds on to his laptop, maneuvering it with him as Alban struggles a little to comfortably get into bed while getting the laptop positioned right too. In Sonny’s perspective, all he saw was a blur of movements, before it all stopped to a scene of Alban getting all snuggly in bed. It looked like something right out of a self-insert otome game. This is definitely the best route for sure. Once Alban was comfortable and adjusted his laptop just right, the brunette pulled up the cat plushie and put it towards the camera.
“Look Sani! Negi’s here too.”
Negi , the name of the plush cat that Sonny won. Alban decided to name it Negi because it was Sonny that got it for him, much to the blonde's agreement. Though, the cat resembled nothing like the vegetable itself.
“Ohh, hi Negi. He's keeping you company while I'm gone?”
Alban opens his mouth to reply to Sonny, but all that comes out was a big yawn instead. He's definitely getting sleepier by the second, but the urge to keep talking was still too strong.
“Uhuh! He's nice and soft.”
The replies that Alban gives are getting shorter, but Sonny doesn't care about that. Hell, he'd even prefer it if the brunette went straight to sleep but he knows that he won't and arguing with him about it would be pointless anyways.
“What a good kitty, hm? That's very nice of him.”
God, the urge to pat Alban on the head right now was so strong. Sonny would seriously move the sky and mountains to be with him at this very moment, but alas, all he could do was admire the brunette's pretty face.
“Mmhm.”
Alban yawned again, and Sonny could only watch as Alban blinked slowly, his eyelids getting heavier and heavier. The brunette’s arms tightened around the cat plushie and pulled the blanket up over himself more. All Sonny could do was breathe out, he didn't want to keep Alban awake any longer by talking but the silence felt a little suffocating too.
“I don’t think I managed to get a picture, but I saw these cat shaped mochis and they reminded me of you. I might buy a few to bring back.”
“Won’t they melt before you get back?”
“Nahh, if they do, I’ll eat them instead!”
The giggle that Sonny managed to elicit from the brunette was akin to a beautiful melody, one that was short but memorable. It wasn’t until now that he realized how much he really missed hearing Alban’s voice. How badly he missed being with Alban.
“Sonny, I'm just gonna rest my eyes for a sec, okay? You can keep talking.”
“”Mhm, I got you.”
Finally, Alban closed his eyes. Albeit claiming that he’d only be resting his eyes, Sonny knows that the brunette wouldn’t last even a minute with his eyes closed. The blonde barely spoke a word, only talking about the snacks he’s had today, until he sees the way Alban’s body relaxes, shoulders falling from being tensed. Unknowingly, a curt smile reaches his lips as his gaze rests over the sleeping boy that he sees from the screen of his laptop, admiration spilling out and pouring into the screen itself, hoping that it’d reach the brunette that was miles away.
Half an hour passes, which consists mostly of Sonny scrolling on his phone, and occasionally looking over to his laptop screen to check on Alban every time he hears a noise coming from the other end. He knows that he should probably end the call and go and do something else, but if he had nothing better to do anyways, then why not stay on with Alban instead? Sonny’s plan lasts all but an hour, until he was forced to get up and go outside (“You’ve been sitting by your laptop all day”, says his sister) to when Sonny ended the call, but quickly opened up his and Alban’s texts and types quickly, just so Alban wouldn’t be confused after waking up, though he knows that the brunette would understand what possibly happened if he woke up to the call being over even without an explanation anyways.
> Goodnight, Alban. I hope you’re dreaming of me right now.
Sonny smiles to himself, picturing the image of a sleeping Alban for a moment before he’s being forced to put on his shoes and go outside.
