Work Text:
“John, have you seen it?” he shouted from his open door, panic settling in at the back of his head in the form of a headache.
“No I haven't, have you checked under your bed?” John shouted from his room.
“Yes I have!” he went and checked under his bed again and still nothing.
“We can't go to Pride without it.”
“Yes I know Sherl, it’s okay we’ll find it.” He walked over to him and grabbed his companion’s hands trying to help calm him down. They were practically ready, both had on their most comfortable walking shoes and most comfortable clothes on while still standing out, the only thing John had on that sherlock was still missing was a pride flag cape.
The reason Sherlock was panicking was because this was his first pride, granted he’s been to plenty when he was younger but this is his first pride out and comfortable, his first pride with people who actually accept him mind, body, and soul. There were a lot of firsts this year. It was why the emotions were so high and why he was slightly panicking about finding his pride flag.
It was one of the first things he had hung in his room, a gay flag that was made from old t-shirts that didn't fit him anymore way back when he was still questioning but definitely knew he wasn't straight. It made him happy just to look at it but he couldn't find it right then.
After a few minutes of breathing with John, he found himself to be calmer. They both walked into his room. John looked under his bed and under his sheets and Sherlock looked in his dresser and in his closet. Double and triple checking all of the places it could have been.
It wasn't until a few minutes later that Sherlock yelped, happy again,
“I found it!” he said triumphantly.
“Where was it?” John asked curiously.
“The back of my closet.” he smiled and tied it around his neck like a cape to match John’s.
it was ironic and they would laugh at it on the way to the parade but they were already running late so John, with a smile on his face, grabbed Sherlock's hand, practically ran out of the room, clamored down the stairs and rushed out of the front door. they walked hand in hand. it was a sunny day.
