Work Text:

Dear Diary,

I had a strange dream last night, a different kind of strange from usual and I’m not quite sure if it was a dream either… I woke up alone in the woods, I was lying down, my hands squeezing the dirt below me and then I noticed the overwhelming scent of flowers. When I stood up I noticed that I was surrounded by blooming white lilies, a me-shaped emptiness where I lay and a narrow path in front of me. I was wearing a beautiful flowing white dress, it had short puffy sleeves and when I looked down there was a small pink bow by the neckline.

Then I heard Donna’s voice calling out to me in a dreamy voice but I could not see her.

“Laura… Laura” she called out to me.

I spun around looking for her but there was only a field of lilies so I decided to walk on the path ahead of me. The path was mostly straight but the more I walked the more the smell began to irritate me and the more the dirt path began to hurt my feet. If I stopped walking for a moment too long I'd hear Donna’s voice again, each time she sounded more and more panicked.

“Laura. Laura. Laura?”

Her panic made me panic more and I didn’t even want to imagine what was happening to her without squirming out of my skin. If something bad was happening I didn’t want her to think that I had left her there all alone. I lifted my dress up from my ankles so I wouldn't get it dirty and began to run down the slowly winding path.

“Laura!”

I noticed that the voice sounded like it was closer so I ran faster. I felt my heart beating through my hands and my feet as I ran as fast as I could, slowly the lilies hid the path till I was running through a field, trampling over perfectly good flowers. I felt a sharp pain at my feet and then realized what the lilies were hiding, small shards of glass. Each shard I picked out of my feet and legs reminded me of Donna.

This whole time I began to panic more, my hands were glued to my dress and my body was shaking. I felt like I was going to die. Then I saw her, she was wearing the same dress as me, her hair divided into two messy braids. She looked like a bride. I walked closer to her, my legs bleeding more and more but it was worth it.

“Laura!” She ran towards me with a slight limp and held me tightly when we met.

“Laura!”

“Donna!”

We held each other so tight I thought we might explode. I felt her heartbeat against mine as we stared wordlessly into each other's eyes.

I tried to speak, ask her what she was doing here, ask her if she knew where we were but the words didn’t come out. All I could say was,

“Donna…” in the same dreamy voice she had used to call to me earlier.

I felt the blood that was dripping down my legs and into the ground seep back into my legs, my wounds healing the more we stared at each other.

“Laura” Donna giggled, brushing a strand of her blonde hair out of her face.

“Donna” I giggled back, her cold fingers tickling my cheeks.

“Laura” she gazed into my eyes and I felt overwhelmingly calm. Time seemed to freeze as her hands held onto mine. I felt giddy.

“Laura?” she pressed a finger against her lips innocently. I seemed to know what she was trying to say to me, like we were reading each other's mind. I nodded and turned my cheek to her. I felt the beating in my chest once again as she kissed me gently on the cheek. The feeling of her cold lips against my warm cheeks was a vivid feeling I don’t think I’ll ever forget. I woke up before I could kiss her cheek too.

Please don’t judge me too harshly, Diary. I don’t know what this means either.
