Chapter Text
“Of course I know who I am!”
The man standing in front of him stares at him with an odd expression, one eyebrow raised, waiting.
But, truth be told… he really doesn’t remember who he is. Or where, for that matter, although he’s wearing a nice suit, and this office is large, clean, and full of expensive looking things upon first glance. Whoever he is, he’s certainly made a name for himself. If only he could get rid of this throbbing headache... and sore neck. How strange.
Maybe the stranger won’t notice the way his eyes dart around, looking for any sort of clue to jog his memory… and, as luck would have it, he finds a plaque on the desk, proudly reading: Miles Edgeworth, Prosecuting Attorney.
Miles Edgeworth… yes, that must be right. So, he’s an attorney? And this must be his client…
“I'm Miles Edgeworth!”
The man merely grins, seemingly satisfied with the answer.
“Yes, you’re my attorney, Miles Edgeworth,” the man reiterates, hands clasped together in front of him, “and you’re here to help me send that wretched woman to jail, correct?”
Wretched… woman? Again, Phoenix is lost. No matter what he does, this description doesn’t ring a bell, but he’s in too deep to give up the act now. He merely nods in hopes that the other man will be so kind as to offer more details, but he doesn’t seem to get the hint.
“Well,” the man continues, brushing a streak of blonde hair out of his face, “what are we waiting around here for? The trial is due to begin very soon. Let’s get going.”
He turns around with a flourish and exits the room, leaving the door open behind him.
Phoenix doesn’t follow. He lingers there, in the room that feels so familiar, and yet, he’s not entirely convinced it’s his. There’s a feeling in his stomach that he can’t shake; something about this doesn’t feel right, but there’s nothing he can do right now but be led around blindly to see what happens.
