Chapter Text
On May 8th, 2024, Berdly planned to kill himself.
A child of unwanted status, he hated his life and everything surrounding it.
His father, being a successful head of some huge company, always put pressure on him to “be a man” and forced him into coming to galas and dances and all sorts of showboating for the wealthy. He was forced to put on a face of loving the wealth and power and status.
Berdly resented his father for it.
He never wanted all the fame or pressure from being wealthy, or extremely smart, or having connections in high places. However, as the years went by, and Berdly realized there was nothing he could do about his place in the world, he developed an ego, and started being a pompous shithead to everyone around him.
Which is what led to that day.

Arriving at his usual time of ass-o-clock in the morning, Berdly tried to prepare himself for yet another day of academic success and pointless socializing. Having had dinner with his father (and some executive investors that he could never remember the names of) until unreasonably late into the night, he was more tired than usual, but not enough to hamper his intellect.
As he waited for his peers to arrive and class to start, Berdly realized he was receiving not so much as a glance from anyone around him. On a normal day, this would be cause for internal celebration. After all, what he desired most was to be left alone.
But this was different.
Berdly couldn't quite pinpoint why, but something about this ignorance felt deliberate. It was like a coordinated effort to make him feel as small as possible. It wasn't uncommon for students at his prestigious private school to ignore each other over disputes, but this was far different. As attendance was called he barely recognized his own name until it was shouted 3 times across the room. Trudging his way through his studies, he felt as though a weight were sinking lower and lower into his stomach until it came time to return home.
Berdly wasn't going home.
