Colonna finished putting on her dress. Tonight was the dance!!! This was the night her and her best friend, Xahji were waiting for!! They were going to dance, eat, gossip, eat... and eat MORE!!!
Okay okay, Colonna was mostly excited for the food!... and going with her friend of course! However, there was something different about this dance.
Every dance Underhigh held, Colonna and Xahji went together. Both of them never had a date to go with them, so they always were together. Tonight, though, Xahji had Snazzy.
Colonna secretly hoped that Snazzy and Xahji weren't going to end up together. It's a bad thought, she knows!!! It's just...—
Colonna's phone rang, which gave her nearly a heart attack. She answered the phone while putting the finishing touches on her mascara.
"Ooh my gosh, I'm so so SO excited for the dance!!! Me and Snazzy are going to finally dance! OOH, what if me and him share a KISS?! IT'LL BE MY FIRST KISS!! ... I wonder if it'll be Snazzy's first kiss too..."
There was a long pause as Xahji waited for her friend to chime in.
"... Colly?"
Colonna jumped, nearly knocking over her phone. "OH SORRY—... Um... yeah! I'm excited for you."
Xahji's face came closer to the phone, eyes practically touching the screen. Colonna noticed this and moved back from the camera. "Uh... what're you doing, girl?"
Xahji squinted. "Colly... what's wrong?! You're usually like 'OH MY GOSH GIRL, I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE YOUR FIRST KISS!!', but right now you're like... meeeeh." She frowned, feeling worried about her friend.
UGH. Xahji always knew when Colonna was feeling off... I mean, they've practically been friends forever. She had to think of a way to mask her feelings...
"Ohh, haha! I was just thinking about how I'll never be able to kiss Goth!!!" Colonna put her face in her hands, pretending to cry.
Xahji rolled her eyes and smiled, setting her phone back down. She backed up to show her friend her dress. "How do I look? My dad was worried that the dress was too low on my shoulders... but I think it looks fine!" She looked at her shoulders on the camera. "ACTUALLY... EW NO!! MY SHOULDERS LOOK TOO BROAD! I LOOK LIKE A MAN... I shouldn't go!!! I look hideous!"
"Hey hey hey!" Colonna assured Xahji, "You look great! I mean, just look at you! Girl, you're hot! Like genuinely! And Snazzy will think so too! I just KNOW it!"
Xahji smiled at the compliments and twirled. "You're right! I DO look hot! And Snazzy WILL think so TOO! Thanks Colly... I really appreciate a friend like you!!!"
"Xahji, let's go! If you want to be on time for the prom, we gotta go now to pick up Colonna!" Goth shouted from downstairs. He was driving the two to the prom.
"OH! Shoot, okay Colly... I gotta go! Well, gotta go to you! We'll be there in 15. See you!" Xahji hung up quickly.
Colonna quickly got up and started to put cosmetics into her purse. "Mascara... nah, don't need this. Eyeshadow....Lipstick, definitely need this!"
She took one more look into the mirror and signed, adjusting her dress. She looked great! She was wearing an orange dress that showed just a bit of cleavage and her shoulders as well. This was the first time she was wearing a dress like this.
"Colly, Xahji's here!" Palatino called from downstairs. Colonna came running down the stairs, almost tripping over her dress.
"Woah sis, relax! The prom isn't going anywhere!" Palatino chuckled at her sister's clumsiness.
"I know I know, but it's THE PROM! I'm just so excited and don't want to keep Xahji waiting!" Colonna rushed to put her shoes on and stood up next to her sister. "How do I look?" Palatino smiled softly, fixing the flower on her headband. "You look beautiful... too bad you don't have a date to go with... whoever would go with you would be really lucky." Colonna's shoulders sank, looking visibly taken aback.
Palatino noticed her sister's sudden shift in emotion. "NOT that you're not going with anyone! You've got your bestie to go with you!! Like you two do EVERY year!" She gave her sister a smile, hoping she didn't ruin the night already. Colonna forced a smile, "Yeah!... Like we do every year..."

Colonna sat at the table, watching Snazzy and Xahji slow dance together. This was the night they both imagined and... IT WASN'T WHAT COLONNA IMAGINED AT ALL! But she just forced a smile for her friend, wanting to seem supportive.
Swifty was sitting across from her, texting away on his phone. He was smiling at the screen, looking around every once in a while. Colonna looked away from the couple for a moment, fixing her gaze onto Swifty.
"Ooo, who are you texting?~" Colonna teased. Swifty sat up straight in his chair and blushed, holding his phone against his chest. "Just Gaster!Sans..." Colonna leaned against the table as she took a sip of her soda. "Sooo... you guys official orrrrr?" Swifty shook his head and sighed. "He's being really difficult right now. You know how he's a jock?"
Colonna nodded, "Yeaaaah?" Swifty continued, "and how I'm a nerd?" She nodded again, not putting the pieces together at first. She tilted her head, hoping her friend would fill in the blanks for her. "He doesn't want us to be public. He wants to keep us on the down-low for now..." Swifty sighed, slumping down in his seat.
"Oh hell no! That's NOT right! Your relationship shouldn't be hidden from the world just because one of you is insecure!!" Colonna exclaimed. "You don't deserve that! You're perfect and deserve to be shown off!"
Swifty smiled sadly. "That's not what Gaster!Sans thinks..." He leaned in closer to Colonna. "Can I trust you not to tell Snazzy about it, though? You know how overprotective he is."
Colonna nodded, pretending to zip her lips shut. "Okie dokie! You can count on me! I am GREAT at keeping secrets!!!"
Xahji and Snazzy came back to the table. "Hey guys! Come on the dance floor and dance with us!!!" Xahji grabbed Colonna's hands and made her stand up. Colonna smiled at her friend and giggled. "Okay okay, I'll join you!!" Snazzy sat down. "You two dance, I need a break."
The two girls giggled and ran to the dance floor. Colonna started to do a funny dance move that made Xahji laugh. "Oh my gosh, is that our dance that we made in middle school?!" Colonna nodded and continued to dance, motioning Xahji to join her. "Hehehe, but I don't remember all the moves!!! And I'm old!"
Colonna bumped her hips against Xahji's. "Come on! You're not that old! You're only a couple months older than me!!!" She continued to dance, waiting for her friend to join. "No I really shouldn't..." Xahji made herself smaller, feeling the stares already growing. "Shake what your dads gave ya!!"
Xahji's face turned red as she watched her friend dance more. She grabbed her wrists and ran into the bathroom quickly, almost causing Colonna to fall. Xahji shoved Colonna into the bathroom and closed the door quickly.
"Hey!!! What gives?! I was tearing it up on the dance floor!!" Colonna protested. Xahji looked away, not saying another word.
"... Xahji? Are you okay? ... Did I do something wrong?" Colonna said, feeling ashamed now.
"No no, you didn't. It's just... maybe you shouldn't do that dance again. You know... since we're in high school and that was from middle school. You understand, right?" Xahji bit her lip.
Colonna stared at the floor silently before changing her expression. "Oh... YEAH! Of course I understand! We're becoming women! I should start acting like it! I'm sooo sorry girl, I don't know what came over me!"
Xahji smiled and took her friend's hands, squeezing them. "Thank you so much, you're the best! Now come on, let's get back to the dance! Snazzy's probably wondering where I went."
Colonna's mood dropped slightly, "Yeah... we should get going..."
