Chapter Text
She noticed it first when he was her bodyguard. The way he would keep close and whenever a close call came his hand drifted to where his gun was tucked into his slacks. But never pulled out, there was never a reason to.
She caught a brief glimpse of it when he removed his blazer. He caught her stare and when she dropped her gaze she heard him shrugging back into it, confusing her.
She'd seen guns before. They unsettled her, but Six was here to protect her, and he sure wasn't going to point it at her. So what was the deal? Six was a professional at concealing weapons on his person but still having them accessible.
“Why do you hide your gun from view?” She asked over breakfast.
Six tensed ever so slightly that if she wasn't watching his reaction she would've missed it. “Safety measure.” He replied, his tone clipped and Claire frowned. “And for your benefit.”
Claire scoffed. “I've seen guns before. My parents had a gun in a safe that I saw every now and then. And do you really think you're the first agent to hang around here?”
“Not an agent.” He muttered. “Just an asset.” He automatically replied like it was programmed into him. From what little she observed, it probably was.
“You're a human being. Not an object.” She snapped. “ Asset . I hate that word.” She mumbled, missing Six's look of surprise before it softened into something more akin to warmth.
“Guns are a form of protection Six.” She steered back to the topic at hand, Six clenched his jaw and his eyes hardened as he stared at the computer.
‘What was wrong with what I said?’ She thought.
