Chapter Text
Heather stared out the window. The world was silent. This was it. In 3 days she will have cheered for the final time. Her high school graduation is next month. Next year she will go off to college and then never see these kids again. Heather would not admit it but she really did adore them. Leaving for college felt like leaving her entire life behind.
“Heather, are you okay?” Bridgette asked, as water from her wet hair dripped onto the hotel floor. Heather looked towards her best friend. Bridgette was also graduating. Yes, they would be going to the same college. But Heather was used to seeing Bridgette everyday. Soon it would be once a week, then once a month, and eventually once a year. Bridgette sat down next to Heather.
“I'm fine, go to bed,” Heather replied, not locking eyes with the other girl.
“No you're not, if you really were fine you would be yelling at me for getting water all over the floor.” Heather's black eyes met Bridgette green ones, “We've been friends for a long time, you can trust me.” That was true. They had been friends since kindergarten. At times Bridgette was Heather's only friend. So she had no reason to doubt her. Bridgette was not the type of person to tease her.
“You know we really won't see each other as much after this,” Heather said, twisting her hair around her finger, “We’ll go to college and be too absorbed with studying to meet up and then we'll forget each other and go on to live our own lives”
“You're not ready for this to end, and I'm not either, but there's no point in being constantly depressed, we should enjoy our last days together.” Bridgette said grabbing ahold of Heathers hand.
“I guess you're right, it seems like you always are—” before Heather could finish, Bridgette trapped her in a hug. How Heather wished they could stay like this forever.
Bridgette pulled away and asked, “You think we could sleep together tonight? Cuddle and stuff.” Bridgette's face flushed a shade of pink as she asked the question.
“Good idea Bridge, I think that will help clear our mind” Heather joked, trying to make Bridgette feel less awkward. Bridgette grabbed her hand and led Heather to the bed closest to them. They both sat down as Bridgette turned off the lamp.
“I must admit Heather, I'm terrified “ Bridgette said, scooting closer to Heather.
“Stop that, we'll be fine seriously.” Heather pulled Bridgette towards her chest and laid down. Bridgette wrapped her arms around Heather and they shared each other's warmth.
“You promise?” Bridgette asked, looking up towards Heather. Although Heather has broken a lot of promises she would never break Bridgette's.
“I promise,” Heather replied, pulling Bridgette closer to her.
As Heather drifted to sleep, she thought she heard Bridgette whisper, “I love you.”
