Overdue

Summary:

Koakuma attempts to retrieve a book from Marisa's house.

Chapter Text

Koakuma sorted through the neat stacks of books in the back of the Scarlet Devil Mansion's library. She took a book from one pile, checked its title, and set it aside on top of another pile. “Come on little guy, where are you?”

Patchouli appeared from around one of the shelves behind Koakuma. “Do you need help?” Patchouli asked.

Koakuma continued to sort through the books. “Lady Patchouli, do you have our copy of the Gensokyo Chronicle?”

“No, but I saw it not too long ago. I think it was in the history section.”

“Not the latest one, the really old one.”

“The one from... what was it... three Akyuus ago?”

Koakuma nodded. “It's the one we aren't in. The one before Gensokyo was even sealed off.”

Patchouli shrugged. “Marisa was showing an interest in it a while ago. I think it's safe to say she's going to hold onto it for the next few decades.”

“A few decades?” Koakuma already knew exactly what Patchouli meant, but she couldn't help but repeat the words.

Patchouli nodded. “You know the drill. If you can't find it in the library, then it must not be here.”

Koakuma finally gave up on her search. “You know, I think it's time we got some of those books back. I don't feel like waiting sixty years to read that version of the chronicle again.”

“Are you sure you don't want to try to find another copy?”

“It's been out of print for hundreds of years!”

“That's still easier than trying to get something from Marisa's house.”

Koakuma had never been inside Marisa's home before, but she'd heard plenty of horror stories. “It's entirely possible our copy is the last one in existence.”

“You never know.”

“I'll try my luck with Marisa.”

“You might want to bring a shovel, or maybe a pickaxe.”

“It can’t be that bad.”

“You’re right, it’s worse.”
