This Is How We Burn

Summary:

Some stories begin long before anyone's ever ready to tell them,
This my dear beloved reader is one of them...

She wasn’t supposed to know who he was. He wasn’t supposed to find out she existed.
But as it turns out life rarely respects the script.

Alexia Nova Black learned early not to expect much from the world—not protection, not kindness and certainly not love. Born into silence, raised by absence, she got by on instinct, wit and the sheer stubborn refusal to fall apart. That was enough. Mostly.

Then one Miscalculation, one arrest, one call and one name on a dusty birth certificate dramatically altered everything.

Now she’s a girl with a father she didn’t ask for.
And Gregory House is a man with a daughter he didn’t know he left behind.

Neither of them is ready.
Both of them are the epiphany of stubbornness.
And the story finds itself not giving a crap.

This is not a redemption arc.
It’s barely even a reunion.
But it might just prove to be a beginning.

“Born into a silence that never quite vanishes, raised by flicker of a ghost, taught to smile through bleeding gums and crooked teeth, arms always up high– knuckles cracked and raw. This… this my love, is how we burn.”

~Brilliant (refuses to show it unless it matters) / Sarcastic (like breathing but sharper)/ Emotionally charred/ Loyal in the way junkyard dogs are loyal/ Survivalist with a superiority complex and abandonment issues/ Secretly aching to be chosen/ Soft in places no one’s allowed to touch/ Constantly torn between “Dont fuck with me” and “Please stay”~

Brother from another mother to Alex

 

~Protective to the point of annihilation/ Loyal like a heartbeat/ Unshakably optimistic/ Only one who listens without trying to fix her/ Raised on honour, running on instinct/ Understands silence better than most adults/ Treats Pinky Promises like binding contracts/ Writes letters as if its the 50’s~

 

“I didn't know what you needed that day, Lex  But sitting there you looked so utterly devastated– more than any nine year old should ever look. I just knew you shouldn't be alone.”

The Reluctant Father

 

~Brutally intelligent/ Emotionally inaccessible/ Addictive personality: drugs, puzzle, self-destruction and monster trucks/ Avoidant of  attachment, drawn to chaos/ Obsessed with truth, allergic to vulnerability/ Can be kind– but only when no one’s looking~

 

“I didn't abandon her. I was never invited. You don't show up to a party that no one bothered to tell you about.”



 

 

~Dr. James Evan Wilson a.k.a Uncle Jimmy~

The Emotional Support Oncologist

 

~Empathetic to a fault/ Always the mediator/ Deeply loyal, emotionally exhausted/ Self-sacrificing in ways that feels noble but are lowkey destructive/ Terrified of being alone- more terrified of being left behind/ The emotional sponge of House’s nonsense~

 

“You’re both so busy proving you don't need anyone, you never stop to ask why you both keep ending up alone.”
