I, I'll always want you near

Summary:

Dustin might kill someone. Scratch that, Dustin is going to kill someone. He's lived a good life, a long one too, so at this point he really doesn't mind a manslaughter charge, especially considering the circumstances. His baby brother is standing at the front door of his house, eyes red and watery, and he doesn't even say anything when Dustin opens the door, just flings himself forward into his arms.

Work Text:

Dustin might kill someone. Scratch that, Dustin is going to kill someone. He's lived a good life, a long one too, so at this point he really doesn't mind a manslaughter charge, especially considering the circumstances. His baby brother is standing at the front door of his house, eyes red and watery, and he doesn't even say anything when Dustin opens the door, just flings himself forward into his arms.

“Cody, what-” He stumbles backwards at the sudden weight, but wraps his arms around his brother. “Why are you here?”

“He doesn love me.” Cody's voice is hard to hear from where his face is shoved into Dustin's shirt, but the older man hears him clearly, and he's suddenly filled with anger.

“Who doesn't love you?”

Cody sniffles, and his shoulder's shake from a sudden shudder. “Daddy doesn.”

“Randy?”

Cody hums an affirmative and Dustin squeezes his arms around his baby brother. He hopes Randal Keith Orton really likes glitter because a lot of his stuff is about to be completely covered in it. He shuffles Cody into the house, closing the door behind them, and shuffling again to set Cody down on the couch. Dustin sits down next to him, and the moment that he does so, his younger brother is leaning completely leaning against him, and Dustin groans at the sudden weight, but lets him lean anyway. Cody sniffles again, and Dustin's reminded about the murder he's currently plotting. He brings one of his hands up to smooth at Cody's hair, frowning softly at the state of his brother.

“Did you two break up?” That's the worst-case scenario, but he needs to know how to handle the situation properly. The younger man shakes his head and Dustin sighs in relief, relaxing slightly. “Then what happened?”

“He didn wan me to go wif him!” Cody's words are stuttered, and he's inhaling deeply every few words, trying to get the sentence out. Dustin thinks for a moment, trying to figure out what he's talking about, before it hits him. Cody had been telling him about a month ago that Randy had to go to a different country to attend some sort of promo thing for the company. Cody couldn't come, as he was already booked for an event then, but clearly that's not clicking in his tiny brain right now.

“Did he actually say he doesn't love you anymore?”

“No! But he mean it mama!”

Dustin sighs and wraps an arm around Cody's body, pulling his brother closer to him. He places his hand on the younger man's neck, rubbing his thumb against the tattoo.

“I'm sure he didn't, baby.”

“Then why couln I come?” Cody's hiccuping, looking at Dustin like his heart is broken. Dustin knows this is all a misunderstanding happening in little Cody's brain right now, but he still has the urge to go find Randy and strangle him for the state his baby brother is in right now.

“You were busy this week, remember?”

“But I wanned to go, mama!”

Dustin coos, squeezing his arm tighter around Cody. “I know baby, mama's sorry.”

Cody sniffles and leans his head forward, placing his face in the crook of Dustin's neck, gasping in breaths to calm down. He rubs a hand up and down Cody's back, exaggerating his breathing so that his brother can copy it, and eventually the younger's sobbing has stopped. It's just the occasional sniffle, Cody twisting the fabric of Dustin's shirt in his hands.

“You feeling better?”

“Mhm.” Cody nods against Dustin's skin, humming. “Still miss him.”

Dustin clicks his tongue, sighing. “That's ok, you're gonna miss him until you're standing in the airport to pick him up.”

Cody lets out a wet giggle at that, and Dustin smiles softly at the noise.

“There's my boy.” He presses a kiss to the top of Cody's head, and looks over at the clock hanging on his wall. “Did you have lunch Cody?”

Cody shakes his head, not saying anything, but letting out a small whine. Dustin can tell what it means, and he pats his brother's back. “Don't apologize. Would you like to eat something?”

Cody looks up at him, eyes still puffy and red, and Dustin involuntarily frowns at the sight. His baby brother nods timidly, clearing his throat. “Grill cheese?”

“With jam?”

Cody nods and a smile spreads across his face, and he pulls back to let Dustin get up from the couch. He can hear Cody shuffling around in the living room while he's grabbing the stuff out of the fridge, and when he peeks his head out of the doorframe, he sees that Cody has found a blanket to wrap himself in, and is messing around with his netflix, trying to find a cartoon. When he comes back with a plate of grilled cheese and some strawberry jam on the side, Cody has some sort of cartoon playing. It looks like they're some animated creatures…underwater? Dustin has no idea, but Cody seems happy, and the younger one cheers everytime the polar bear comes on screen, so he figures it's little kid appropriate. When Cody sees him, he lets out a laugh and pats the couch next to him, motioning for his brother to sit next to him. He does, and places the plate in front of Cody. Cody rips a piece off of the sandwich, dipping it into the jam, and holds it out to Dustin.

“For yous mama!”

“Oh thank you baby.” Dustin takes the piece and smiles at him, Cody waiting until he's eaten it to turn back to his show, humming happily. Dustin smiles down at him, reaching forward to ruffle his hair, and his smile widens at the giggle his baby brother lets out at the action. He's glad Cody knows he can always come to him, he'll always be here to protect him from whatever he needs.

-

“Hey Cody? Baby? The love of my life?” Randy's just gotten home, dragging his suitcase to the room to put it away. Cody's putting his car keys down when he hears the voice, and he yells back.

“Yeah?”

“What the fuck.” It's not a question, and Randy's voice breaks at the end of the sentence. Cody's face scrunches in confusion, and he walks towards the bedroom.

“What do you-” He cuts himself off by gasping, throwing a hand up to cover his mouth in shock. Randy's suitcase is laying open in the middle of the room, and to say the contents are covered in glitter would be an understatement. There's yellow glitter in every single crack of the suitcase, covering Randy's clothes and all of his essentials. There's glitter on the floor around the edge of the suitcase, and Randy's hands are shimming with the amount of glitter on them. Cody really tries not to, but he can't help it, and he lets out a hysterical giggle at the sight, noise muffled by his hand. It's not muffled enough, because Randy whirls his head around, staring at him with wide eyes and a mouth open with shock.

“What the fuck!” He throws his hands up, and glitter falls off, spreading all throughout the room in a wonderful, shiny display. Cody can't help it and he bends over laughing, shoulders shaking uncontrollably as he cackles. They are never going to get the glitter fully out of their house, and the suitcase is probably going to have to be thrown away. Cody doesn't care though, his eyes are stinging at how hard he's laughing, and he makes a mental note to send a text to his brother when he stops laughing and Randy stops shouting in frustration.
