Did you remember?

Summary:

Peter wants tons of birthday cake.

(Tony is tired.)

---

“Man.. For my birthday, I want lots of bday cake! Wouldn't that be so cool, Mr. Stark?”

He says out loud, hoping the tired man would notice him, and if Tony doesn't, Peter continues.

“What if they were hidden or placed everywhere too? That would be extra awesome! Like I have to eat every sweets I see–"

"Kid, your birthday is in 4 months," Tony responded to him, "And I don't want you puking all over the place." he added.

Notes:

This was one of my old works that I posted in another site, I decided to rewrite it for fun.
Based on Bee and Puppycat episode, "Did you remember?"

Update: I rewrote this and added a banner art! The banner art is inspired by Bee and Puppycat's title card.

Work Text:

🎉🎉

Peter sat on a couch, flipping through a magazine he found at a store that MJ invited him over just yesterday.

A video game magazine just caught his eye there, so, why not take it?

He read it for a while this morning and one of its pages had a topic that caught his attention– an idea popped up in his head, his brain lightbulb just lit up.

He tilts his head up slightly as he rests on the armrest of the couch.

He was looking at his mentor, the tired inventor, billionaire or whatever else- Tony Stark himself, who seemed to be sitting beside the counter at the kitchen as he slowly sip his warm, hot coffee and scrolled through his phone.

Peter could hear a news report from Tony's phone, he just guessed that it might be the recent fights that they took care of, but either way, he was slightly disappointed by his mentor’s answer.

He puts back his head down on a comfortable position on the armrest and lets out a sigh.

“Yeah..”

3 months until Peter’s birthday.

Bruce and Tony were, not surprisingly, at the lab working together, mainly focusing on Tony’s current small project though.

Bruce luckily had some free time, and well, that free time was also pointless.

So he took a visit to his science partner and as always, was busy working on something in his lab, but it didn't hurt to help him anyway.

Bruce grabbed a screwdriver from one of the nearest tables and tossed it over to Tony.

“Thank you, Brucie.” Tony says, lifting the small invention gently as he tilts it to the area part of the screw, “Where’s Peter? Doesn’t he usually help you?” Bruce asks as he picks up the tools and the kits from the table, organizing.

Tony shakes his head in response, “No, the kid’s busy with homework.”

"Ah, right. Yeah. Oh, you forgot to screw this bolt--"

He hears a painful neck snap from Tony.

“Tony, are you.. okay?"

The genius didn’t respond anything to him, instead, he placed the small gadget down gently on the table and snapped his neck back, rubbing the back of it with his free hand.

Bruce just.. takes the screwdriver from Tony's other hand without a word, so that he can continue tinkering the small device and screw its missing bolt back in place.

“Tony we can take a break if you want or..”

The tired genius shakes his head, holding up a finger at him.

“I’m fine.”

2 months until Peter’s birthday.

Clint was hiding in the vents once again.. Great! Awesome!

He was crawling around and making his way to his own hangout nest that was near the airflow system of the building.

Tony can't kick him out of there anyway, oh well, at least his crawling wasn't as noisy as last week.

“Katniss!" Tony yelled out, pressing his fingers against his temple as he was shot back with a muffled ‘Shut up!’ from the archer in the vents.

He sighs and picks up a fallen arrow that Clint accidentally dropped and left behind--

Then a loud painful crack came out of his back.

The archer slowly pops his head out of the vents, concerned and worried by the sudden sound.

"Tony?"

The tired genius just forced himself to stand back up straight and drop the arrow back on the floor before he walked away straight to one of the hallways, leaving Clint with a confused look and with the abandoned arrow lying on the ground

1 month until Peter’s birthday.

Tony lets out a big yawn as he goes over to the counter of the kitchen to take a seat, getting his mug ready as he gives a quick glance at Strange, who is sitting at the opposite side of the counter table with a book resting on his hand.

Stephen didn't take his eyes off the book when Tony arrived though, instead, he only flipped to the next page and made a small fold of the right top corner.

Tony prepares his coffee and begins to stir it around with a spoon that he got from a nearby utensil crock.

After he was done, he grabbed the handle of his mug to lift it up and he then began to slowly sip his own warm coffee--

He felt a sharp pain through his hand, or maybe it came from his wrist, still, that pain almost made him spill his coffee.

Luckily, the Cloak Of Levitation, which rested behind the sorcerer’s back, comes to life to quickly look after the mug and gently wraps itself around it.

Tony lets out a sigh, placing it down on the table, his hand still on the handle and the cloak still wrapped itself around the mug.

When Stephen finally takes his eyes off the book, the cloak slowly unwraps itself from the mug and goes back to being “still” on Stephen's back.

"Nothing." Tony mutters, going back to sipping his mug again while Stephen shrugs and goes back to reading.

1 week until Peter’s birthday.

“Tony. Tony! TONY!”

Pepper began to yell at him, she gently shook his body to wake him up, even taking the covers away from him.

ANTHONY EDWARD STARK! You better get up this instant, right now!” Her voice echoes in the room, but even then using his full name in an attempt to scare him fully awake didn't work.

What happened this time? Overwork at the lab? Have a "long boring" meeting with something?

Tony remains annoyingly unmoving, ignoring her typical scolding tactics.

“.. I'll be up, Pep."

Peter’s birthday. AUG 10.

When Steve began to get out of his room and enter the elevator by pressing a specific button– it closed its door and began to move down.

As soon as it stopped moving and opened its doors, he saw Tony resting his head on his arms on the counter at the kitchen.

“Huh, you're up early Tony.” The super soldier says as he walks out of the elevator to go over to the fridge.

Tony mumbles drowsily, "Yeah, I am. Hooray."

He lets out a fake cheer and slowly sits up straight from his seat.

Steve scoffs at him as he grabs a leftover container of Thai food from the fridge and closes it.

"So, what did you get for Peter today? You didn't forget anything, right?" Steve asks, taking one of the seats beside the counter and placing the container down, "The worst case scenario is that you forgot about it. His birthday." He added.

“Go see it for yourself, Rogers."

Peter began to stir awake in his bed, his covers were scattered and his papers and notebooks were all over the place, the teen would almost fall over the bed if it wasn't for the quick feeling of excitement for today.

He stretches his body and lets out a yawn, sitting up straight on his bed while he then rubs his eyes.

Finally, it’s his birthday today!

He begins looking around his room for any hints of a present or a surprise.

When someone has presents for him, they usually leave it in his room back at Aunt May’s place.

But what he wanted to see the most were the cakes he told Tony about!

He continues to look around, even at every corner, but his room still remains as it was- just a typical mess.

"Huh? Nothing.." he mumbles, his tired brain still processing the situation.

“Well, I can't really ask that much from Mr. Stark anyway.." He sighs and lazily opens his door, stepping a foot out of his room--

He felt something under his doormat.

Peter looks down, and to his surprise, he steps on a Spider-Man-decorated cake.

It had sprinkles and Spider-Man mask's face drawn on it with frosting.

Confusion mixes with surprise— he can't quite decide whether to feel offended or happy.

He just stepped on a cake of himself, but it's a cake, on his birthday.

"Oh.. did he..?" He stares in disbelief at the smashed cake with a small smile slowly forming on his face.

He crouches down to remove the doormat from covering his cake, he gently grabs it and stares at it with a chuckle.

When he stood up, a couple of drones flew by and swarmed around him, greeting him with different styles of Spider-Man decorated cakes.

Those cakes had different flavors, designs, and different types of sprinkles, some of the cakes even had a small Spider-Man cake decoration on top of them.

YESS!

Peter started squealing and chasing after the swarm of drones carrying his cakes, but the drones began to run away from him like they were in a game of tag.

He even went down to the living room through the elevator to chase the other drones.

"Mr. Stark! YOU DIDN'T FORGET! You didn't forget at all! I'm definitely going to be SICK from eating all of these!"

Peter yells through the hallways as he races after the drones, trying to reach and tackle them down to grab the cakes that are on top of them.

Tony let out a sigh of relief as he had a small smirk on his face from the sounds of Peter's excitement, the tired man was mostly proud of himself.

“Huh.. Good Job.”

“Thank you, Capsicle. Thank you.”

Peter felt so tired having to celebrate his birthday with the team (+ Aunt May, Ned and MJ), either way, it was so damn worth it!

This was his first time spending it with them, a birthday with his aunt, friends and The Avengers, who could ask for more when you have tons of cake piled up too?

He couldn’t eat every cake that Tony gave him, until now Peter felt bad, but his mentor reassured him earlier that it was fine and they could even share it to his other friends, classmates or someone else.

The teen enters his room and closes his door quietly, he looks at the piles of gifts at one of the corners of the room– he was being showered, god, if he wasn't this tired right now he would explode and go wild opening all of them, like a kid on Christmas day.

He flops onto his bed and shoves some of the scattered notebooks and papers on his bed away, opening the gifts could wait tomorrow.

He pulls up his covers and snuggles underneath the warm blanket.

Until a beep disturbed him.

A drone, which was hiding in the shadows at one of the roof corners of the room, revealed itself with its lit up red LED and landed on his nightstand table next to a lamp.

It carried a bright red colored gift box with a blue ribbon around it and even a white tag that had black swirls with a note written on it.

“For my kid. - T”.

Peter peeks out of his covers and moves it aside, he takes the present curiously and places the drone gently down on the ground, another gift from him?

It better not be cake this time, or a cupcake.

He pulled the ribbon and took away the lid, revealing--

A stuffed toy look-alike of his Iron Spider armor that Tony had given him before.

It even has the small golden pincers at the back, it was soft and had its original details simplified to stick with its look.

It looks awesome.

He can’t believe it.

This thing was a cherry on top to how much Tony gave him today.

He placed it beside his pillow, as if it was resting with him, and pulled up his covers once again, warmth at last with his awesome present beside him.

“You made those cakes all by yourself?!”

Clint remarks, surprised.

Tony rolled his eyes at him, “Kinda, I paid someone to do a handful of them and I did some baking to do the rest." he hums, cleaning up the living room as the colorful balloons float around.

“You made so much for Peter, Tony.” Steve says, helping the man out at cleaning the place.

Tony chuckles and shakes his head at him, “The kid deserves it.” he mutters, letting his other teammates help him out.

Pepper is definitely going to let him have the half of the day to sleep tomorrow after hearing that.
