Work Text:
Captain Margaret Elizabeth Carter still had little idea about the modern world but she was getting used to it. She had a team now, she was happy. She had friends and found people she was comfortable around. She was especially close to the girls on the team; Maria Rambeau, Christine Palmer, Natasha Romanoff, and Wanda Maximoff. While only Maria and Peggy were a part of the council, the rest of them were just as much a part of the team as she was. However, one day, while at the main base, she was startled by a voice behind her.
"Cap, can I talk to you?" Wanda asks. "Of course Wanda, what do you need?" Peggy smiles softly. "Well, I, uhm, I was wondering if maybe you, uhm, wanted to maybe go out for coffee at some point?" Wanda mutters awkwardly. Peggy raises an eyebrow. "Are you asking me on a date Maximoff?" She questions. Wanda's face goes beet red. "Well, I, uhm, I just, uh, well, I..." Wanda stutters awkwardly. "I'll take you up on that offer, don't hurt that pretty little head of yours," Peggy laughs, laying a hand on Wanda's shoulder. Wanda swallows harshly and just nods.
It had been around two years now. Captain Carter and Wanda Maximoff had been dating since then and it had been wonderful. "Hello darling," Peggy coos, wrapping her arms around Wanda's waist. The woman jumps and yelps in her arms. This worries Peggy a bit. "Are you okay lovely?" She asks. "Oh, uhm, yeah, I'm fine," Wanda mutters, fidgeting with her fingers. "Is there something on your mind Wands?" Peggy asks, worry present in her voice. Wanda takes a deep breath before turning to the older woman. "Pegs...I'm pregnant," Wanda explains shakily. Peggy's eyes widen. "You're...what?" She mutters. "I-I'm sorry, I thought it would be okay but-" Wanda is cut off when Peggy surges in with a kiss. "Wanda, this is fantastic, we're going to be mothers!" Peggy exclaims as she pulls away. "You aren't mad?" Wanda asks, confused. "Wands, why on earth would I be mad?" Peggy asks. Wanda shrugs with tears welling in her eyes. Peggy smiles softly as she pulls Wanda into an embrace, soothing her.
Billy and Tommy were perfect in every way. Both women loved them with their entire hearts and were so happy. They had moved into a real home instead of the base and were thankfully able to handle the hormones messing with Wanda's magic. Once the twins were born it became a bit more difficult but they made it work. Thankfully not many threats were prevalent during the time so they made it work. The boys were easy overall through their childhood but they had moments.
"Boys!" Peggy sighs loudly. "Yes mama?" She hears Tommy ask. "Care to tell me which of you two ate my leftover dinner from last night?" Peggy asks, turning and holding the empty takeout box. "Tommy did it!" Billy exclaims almost immediately. "I did not! You did it!" Tommy snaps back. "Boys," Peggy scolds. "Tell me the truth or I'll ground you both for the night." "It was Tommy!" Billy insists. "It was not!" Tommy yells back. "What is all this yelling?" Wanda asks, walking in from the living room. "Someone ate my leftovers and the boys won't tell me who," Peggy explains. "You two better tell her the truth," Wanda points out. "You know how your mama is." "Fine. I did it," Tommy sighs. "I'm sorry mama." "I'm not mad Tommy. Just please next time tell me the truth," Peggy assures. "Okay mama," Tommy nods. "Now you two go play," Wanda smiles. The twins run off, leaving the women alone. "They're gonna be very good liars y'know," Peggy scoffs. "Don't I know it," Wanda smile, kissing Peggy softly.
That morning Peggy felt off. She wasn't sure why but she just felt like something was wrong. Regardless, she went off to the council, kissing her wife and children goodbye. She sat there as the anomalies came through; a different Stephen Strange and a girl she didn't recognize. Christine handled the girl whole the council handled Strange. That was until the intruder entered. The screen came up and it shocked them all. Wanda. Her wife Wanda was destroying the security bots. When they rush out to the fight, Peggy is scared. Because this is her wife. Her wife who is possessed by an alternate version of herself. Peggy fights but she's gentle. She doesn't want to hurt her wife. She CAN'T hurt her wife. She needs her, the twins need her. So when this Wanda launches the shield into her body, Peggy has no reaction. Perhaps because it was too fast and kills her instantly. Or maybe because she's in complete disbelief that someone who looks like her wife killed her without a second thought.
When Wanda is finally back in her body she doesn't know what happened. She goes to the council, she has to see Peggy, she has to tell Peggy she's okay. But she sees blood. So much blood. And then she sees her body. Split in half, crumpled on the ground. She breaks down. She cries over the woman she loved's corpse. The two different parts of her laying split on the floor. What is she going to tell the twins? That their other mother was dead? That she killed her? It's all too much. Wanda just sobs, holding Peggy's head against her chest. Every emotion bottles, she has to be strong. For the twins. For Peggy.
