Into the Deepspace Tunnel

Summary:

Essie Jackson knew that she should have never trusted Loki. Hell, he was the god of mischief and the cause of a lot of her headaches. Plus, he was literally renowned for his tendency to seek entertainment out of the expense of others. So really, this was her fault. For not using her brain.

Nah, she was blaming Loki.

She was so gonna bash his head in after. When (if) she gets back.

For now, she was just gonna chill. In the middle of nowhere.

Nothing like a little vacation, right?

Notes:

I wrote, and started a couple random one-shots during my time in China, when I realised that I couldn't access any of my drafts and such so...

Well, here it is.

Work Text:

Crashing through the multiverse was a very disorientating feeling. Dizzying arrays of colours that flashed by before you could see them, blinding white or pitch black vortexes, not to mention, the variations in gravity.

Sometimes it felt like something was dragging her down, other times it felt as if she was so light that a little poke could send her propelling out into the unknown. Not that she wasn't already being propelled into the unknown, but like, you got what she meant.

Essie blamed it on the bifrost and the overall unreliability of the gods. Why else would one single, tiny use of the godly transport send her careening out of her own dimension and into who knows where.

She knew that she should have never trusted Loki.

Well, on the bright side, at least she managed to escape. That whole being outside his territory thing would at least keep Odin from reaching her. And hopefully when she gets back, his rage would have dulled.

Unlikely. Gods were petty like that.

Speaking of which, the reason she got into this mess in the first place was because of Loki. So he owed her. A lot.

She would make sure to collect on that debt as soon as she gets back. Knowing Loki, he would find some obscure way to hoodwink her and what not. Maybe she should play the daddy's baby daughter card. Get Poseidon to avenge her.

Now that sounded sweet.

Rivalled only by the feeling of crushing Loki beneath her feet.

Daydreams of squashing Loki aside, she really needed to find a dimension to land in, preferably before she got too far to be able to return home. Or worse, faded into oblivion.

Breathing out a sigh of mild annoyance, she tried to bargain with the Bifrost. “So. When and where exactly are you gonna drop me off? I’d prefer now, thank you very much. If only because all this spinning is making me kinda nauseous. Meaning I’m gonna puke my guts out right this moment if you don- Woah!-”

Maybe it worked a little too well.

Essie was immediately spat out. Which wasn’t all too great as now she was drifting - less drifting and more whizzing - through not-Bifrost protected space.

This wouldn’t be how she dies right? If she died, where would her soul go?

Hades’ realm?

Or to some faraway pantheon that she didn’t know existed?

Or maybe she would just become dust and float forever.

Goddammit Loki! She was so gonna haunt him! He’d never find a moment of peace ever again!

After what seemed like an eternity later, she was still in space. She had assumed the Buddha lotus position a few hours (or days, she couldn’t tell) back and had started chanting nonsense in order to entertain herself.

It was getting boring.

So she switched to fish swimming position, squirming and flailing her arms and legs like she was underwater. That too got boring fast.

Giving up, she flopped onto nothing, the lack of gravity and the swoosh of the space tunnel supporting her.

Where was it taking her anyways?

Should she start chanting Are we there yet?

Would that help? Annoying the space into releasing her. That would make a good anecdote to tell her friends. If she ever made it home that was.

Ugh. On the bright side, at least she could catch up on sleep.

The nostalgic feel of gravity - freaking finally! - was what woke her up. She shrieked in delight as she went free-falling from the dusk-streaked sky.

Which came about the second issue. How was she going to land safely?

Essie stared in dismay at the thinning clouds and approaching lights of the buildings.

She turned her narrowed eyes towards the open skies, in the direction of space, and pulled out her middle finger.

The gods must be laughing right now. Well, fuck them too.

Closing her eyes, she prepared for her imminent death, only to crash into a net. Safely, uninjured, if a little winded.

Yay, and she lived to see another day.

Opening her eyes, she was greeted by a flurry of movement from professionals? Well, people wearing uniforms, and moving in sync. Coordinated. So she was assuming they were pros. Especially since they managed to save her from going splat.

The net dropped from under her, and she yelped as she fell. And ouch, the ground hurt!

“Hey!”

Her protests went unheard as she was immediately ferried into an ambulance thingy and wheeled into a hospital thingy. She scowled, now utterly vexed. Couldn’t they see that she was fine?

She was speaking and such. That should have been a good enough indicator.

The voices and movements continued, rapid-fire something ( Chinese? Yeah, that was Chinese) was exchanged.

Shaking her head grumpily, she crossed her arms and pushed herself further into the bed. Might as well get comfortable, seeing as she was going nowhere.

A sudden hush over the room drew her attention. The temperature seemed to drop slightly as the doors opened to reveal another doctor.

Black hair, glasses, tall, hot.

Well damn. She wouldn’t mind if he was assigned to her. Hell, she might even behave. Ok, that was a lie. She would never behave.

The doctor flipped his clipboard, speaking to the others - who seemed deferential all of a sudden - in what she presumed was Chinese.

The hot doctor paused and walked over to her. Giving her his attention. The first one to do so.

Essie perked up. Plus one brownie point goes to the hot doctor!

Hot doctor asked her something. She stared at him blankly in response. The language went through one ear and out the next. Dammit, she knew that she should have continued with her Duolingo Chinese lessons.

Hot doctor scribbled something.

It was in this instance that she experienced a slight feeling of deja vu. Where had she experienced this before?

Greenish eyes. Those glasses. Where had she seen them before?

Taking in a deep breath, she focused on the language. She had been a nerd in her previous life (before Percy Jackson, or well the female version of him), obsessed with the virtual, ACG world. It didn’t matter whether it was Japanese, Chinese or Korean, she watched (and played) them all. In the original language too, because she had a thing against dub.

So it shouldn't be too hard to pick out words that she could understand.

And bingo! Yisheng, someone said. Doctor. Ok, progress. A word (phrase), or well two (Chinese) characters understood.

And more gibberish, and Li Yisheng.

Wait a sec… Li Yisheng?

Doctor Li?

Li Shen? Zayne?!

Eyes shooting towards the hot doctor, she compared him to the videogame character.

Hair? Dark, short and cut neatly? Check.

Outfit? Long lab coat, pen in chest pocket, dark inner clothes? Check.

All that was left was ice and snow.

Well damn. Ok, so she was in Love and Deepspace.

The space tunnel that she was speeding through was probably the deepspace tunnel then.

Sighing sadly, Essie lamented her luck. It seemed as if she wasn’t getting a personal hot doctor. Considering the fact that he was taken, by MC.

Oh well, at least she was getting eye candy for the duration of her stay here. Love and Deepspace wasn’t lacking in good looking characters after all.

Maybe she’d get to see Sylus. Or Rafayel.

Rafayel was more likely, considering the fact that he was more likely to get hospitalised, or well, visit the hospital. Him and Xavier.

Oooh, maybe she’d get to meet MC. It would be kinda cool to see the character that she had played previously.

For now, she’d rest.

A nice, long vacation.

Plus eye candy.

Zayne seemed to agree (to the needing rest part, not the eye candy part), seeing as he lowered her bed, allowing her to lay flat.

Off to sleep then.

Thank goodness she was out of that dratted tunnel.

Just wait Loki. She was going to get her vengeance. Whether it was this month, next year, or in a thousand years. She was going to make sure that whenever he left his sorry den, he would be leaving it with one eye always watching his back!
