Trash to Treasure

Summary:

You move to Hometown for some peace and quiet, sadly the tv you used to have doesn’t survive the move. But luckily some neighbors are getting rid of a tv that works perfectly!

Chapter 1: Finders Keepers

Chapter Text

You groaned softly, feeling slightly disheartened at the sight before you.

You’d only recently moved to ‘Hometown’ as it was called, for some peace and quiet. Collecting retro gaming consoles was a bit of a hobby of yours. Sure you didn’t know anything about repairing them or specifics but you still collected them.

Unfortunately for you it appeared that the tv you’d had to use said consoles didn’t quite make the trip, the sight of the broken screen (and undoubtedly broken interior) made you more than a little upset.
“Shit…” you murmured, doing your best to carefully lift the heavy tv. “At least the dumpster is just around back I suppose.”
Finding a different tv that would work was going to be a pain in the ass, after all, who’d get rid of a perfectly good tv?

The house just down from you, the Dreemurr’s, were apparently the kind to get rid of a perfectly good tv. Although the sight of it having been left on an old table, umbrella over it and everything, was quite amusing.
After a quick inspection (and curious look at the little crinkle it had in the right antenna) you decided to take it home. It did have all the proper ports you needed to hook everything up and from what you could gather, worked perfectly.

Though it was kinda weird how the two kids who’d been watching you look at it through the window high fived as you picked it up.
You simply shrugged off the odd feeling as you carefully took your new treasure home, grinning at the idea of testing it out.
The thought of hooking one of the old playstations or Xboxes up to it was too good of an idea to pass up.
Heck you’d even be willing to see if your Nintendo Switch would be able to connect to it, playing some newer games would be fun too!

No wonder they’d gotten rid of this tv, it was so obscenely dusty.
After you’d gotten it home you’d decided to give the tv a little love before plugging things into it all willy nilly, and it was a good thing you did.
You coughed as you gently used the canned air, blasting the dust off of the wiring and circuits within. “God damn.” This really should’ve been done on the porch. Or at least with the window open.

Some of the dust was a little more stubborn, requiring you to very carefully use the paintbrush you had in hand to gently clean off the offending particles.
(It was all you had available ok? You didn’t know what tools to actually use to clean it)

“Aaaaaand done! Finally.” Now everything but the tv was dusty. Lovely.

You gently start to reattach the back, humming as you put the screws back in.
A glance up at your clock made you wince. “Two am???” Had it really taken so long?
Your stomach growled loudly, reminding you that you’d yet to eat since early that morning. “Looks like it’s tv dinner time.” That phrase (without dinner) was about to literally haunt your ‘dreams’. Not that you knew that yet.
You made your way to the kitchen, frowning a bit at the sight of the single tv dinner in your freezer. “Looks like I’m going shopping tomorrow….today?” It was technically super early morning.
You ripped the box open, placing the dinner in the microwave before heading back to the living room, humming as you picked up your vcr player.
“May as well set this up, can’t have a tv dinner without tv!” A Disney classic was calling your name, not that you’d be able to make it all the way through it tonight.

You barely made it through your food when exhaustion hit you like a ton of bricks, a groan coming from you as you grabbed the nearest couch blanket, barely even tossing it over yourself as you rolled over and snuggled into the couch. Sleep claimed you quickly, though…..you did end up having quite the interesting dream.

“Who turned on the lights?” You mumble, blearily opening your eyes to….a completely foreign room. Alarm went through you as you sat straight up, looking around in complete confusion.
A soft jingle brought your gaze downwards, your outfit had changed to that of what you’d say a waiter or something would wear. A crisp white button up shirt and black slacks. The oddest addition though…was the belt and belt buckle, the belt buckle being bright gold with a tv shape to it.
“Eh?” The jingle had been a lanyard and name card around your neck.
“Co-Host?” What on earth was going on? You certainly hadn’t applied for a job well….anywhere. At least not that you could remember.

The door to the room you were in slamming open made you scream in surprise, your eyes only further widening as you slowly looked upwards.

“Oh goody! You’re here!” The excited and overly loud voice proclaimed, not that you’d really heard it. You knew there were all kinds of monsters, but a tv headed one? Why did this one look so familiar?
He’d been talking the entire time you’d been staring, clearly soaking in the attention. “I know I know! I look so good! You really got the magic touch, I look and feel like a million bucks!” He chirps, not seeing the complete confusion on your face. “Magic touch…?”
“Yeah! When you dusted me out earlier of course! And you were so gentle too!” The tv said with an antenna dipping down in an attempt at winking. How does someone without eyes wink???

Though you were quite confused on the winking part you were also confused about what he’d said. “Dusted you out?” Your mind immediately went back to the tv you’d brought home and so lovingly cleaned up, your eyes immediately shooting up to the antenna on the tv guy.
The right one had that same crinkle the tv you’d brought home did, said antenna did a little twitch as he patiently waited for you to piece everything together.

“…..You’re telling me that you’re the tv I brought home?” That got a big grin from him. “Correct! Look at you! Putting the pieces together! Such a brilliant little helper I have!” He said, bending over to look you over.
“Names Mr. ‘Ant’ Tenna! But you can call me Tenna.” He said grinning widely again, unaware of your rather…. flustered thoughts at his intimidating height.
You softly murmur your name, feeling a bit shy all of a sudden.
“What a lovely name!” He chirps, the sound of an unexpected audience cheering audio making you nearly Jim out of your seat.

“So, Co-Host~” he purred, his voice somehow deepening an octave. “Ready to see the script we have for the day?” Tenna looked at you expectantly, like a dog waiting for you to throw him a ball. It was kinda cute actually. He gently offered you a hand to take, grin not leaving his face.

Swallowing down your nerves and confusion, you were quite determined to figure out this weird dream, so you took his hand. “As ready as I’ll ever be.” You said, the words making him even more excited.
“Yes!” He chirped excitedly, picking you up and literally throwing you over his shoulder. “It’s TV Time!” He said, practically running out the door.

What the heck have you gotten yourself into?
