Sierra, Hotel, India, Echo, Lima, Delta (2014)

Summary:

August 14, 2014, Beverly Hills, California

Dean empties an ice bucket on Seth's head for charity

Work Text:

The arena lights blaze down, a blinding spotlight on the makeshift stage.

Michael Cole’s voice, a hyped-up roar, cuts through the humid Brooklyn air. “Ladies and gentlemen, the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is sweeping the nation, and even our very own Superstars are getting in on the act! It was The Undertaker who set the digital world on fire with that incredible stunt on YouTube, but the momentum hasn't stopped there! Tonight, the eyes of the WWE Universe are on two men who usually want to tear each other apart—Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins—as they follow in the footsteps of The Phenom for this incredible cause!”

Cameras zoom in, capturing every bead of sweat on Seth Rollins’ forehead. The Architect stands there, a smug, self-satisfied grin plastered on his face, clad in a sleek, tailored suit, ready to accept this "challenge" he's surely going to make all about himself.

Then, the "Sierra, Hotel, India, Echo, Lima, Delta" hits, a jarring, familiar siren that sends shivers through the crowd. The collective gasp is palpable.

Dean Ambrose, the unhinged Lunatic Fringe, stalks out, not with his usual wild-eyed abandon, but with a focused, almost predatory calm. In his hand, a shiny, silver ice bucket, clearly brimming. Rollins’s smirk falters, replaced by a flicker of genuine fear. He takes a step back, his eyes wide. Ambrose, without a word, marches directly up to his former brother, the betrayal still raw in the air between them.

The crowd erupts, sensing the chaos. With a sudden, explosive motion, Ambrose hoists the bucket high. Rollins tries to duck, but it’s too late. The icy water, studded with enormous, jagged chunks of ice, cascades over him. It drenches his expensive suit, plastering his perfectly coiffed hair to his scalp. His sharp inhale is audible, a strangled gasp as the shock hits him.

The crowd explodes in a mixture of cheers and delighted jeers. Rollins stumbles back, shivering uncontrollably, his face contorted in a comical mask of shock and icy rage. Ambrose just stares him down, a ghost of a smile playing on his lips, a silent promise hanging heavy in the electrified atmosphere: this is just the beginning.
