Two Time paced the cabin relentlessly, shaking, jittery. They'd only been here for a week, or was it a month? Time didn't seem to make much sense here, but Two Time wasn't keeping track. Their thoughts swam with memories of Azure, how happy they were together before they... before they...
They couldn't face the memory.
They had done it for the Spawn, right? They did it for the greater good. Then why did it hurt so much? The guilt twisted in their stomach like some real, tangible entity. It was as if their very insides were set on fire.
Two Time collapsed onto the floor. There was surely a purpose to the sacrifice, of course! They wouldn't have had to do so if was for nothing. This wasn't a big deal, they were just blowing this out of proportion. They took a breath. Count to five and breathe, just like Azure had taught them.
Azure.
The name alone caused them so much pain, they couldn't focus on the calming exercise. They tried to clear their mind.
But it was so hard not to think about it. It was their fault. They were the reason that Azure was dead. They probably wouldn't even be here if they hadn't plunged that dagger into his heart. How Azure looked in his final moments would be forever carved into Two Time's memory.
While laying there, they saw their dagger, the same dagger used in the sacrifice. An idea slowly pieced itself together as they got up and approached it. Taking it into their hand, they let it brush against the skin. They gripped it more firmly, and with a fierce resolve, they started to carve.
The pain was maddening, but Two Time pushed on. First, the letter A. Then Z. One by one, until finally, they had engraved Azure's name onto their arm. A small smile played at their lips. This made them feel a bit better. Azure would've loved this.
