Chapter Text

Cait didn’t know why she constantly came to the ocean, her feet in the cold salty water. Maybe it was the waves or the smell that calmed her. She liked the way the salty air burned in her throat. She couldn't imagine her life without the warm grainy sand between her toes, or the way it stuck to her legs–but she should be dead too.

Everything last year happened so fast. She and her mom had been on a simple boat outing when a storm hit; it came out of nowhere. She remembered her mom trying to steer the boat away, but the current was too strong and the waves were too big. Suddenly she was in the water struggling to breathe. The water rushed into her lungs, and the salt burned her throat. The surface was getting farther and farther away. She felt arms wrap around her, but she couldn't make out the face. She saw flashes of blue and red, and then she remembered.

When Cait awoke–coughing and spluttering–on the shore, everything was blurry and she didn't remember much. How she ended up here, she did not know. Her head hurt and so did her throat, but that wasn’t what was important at the moment–right now it was finding her mom. There was debris from the boat, but she couldn’t find her mother. Her eyes started to water as she noticed a body on the shore. It was her mother! Cait couldn’t hold back the sobs as she realized what happened to her.

Cait pushed the memory out her head as she pulled her feet out of the water. She could not stand to get lost down memory lane, as it was getting darker and she had to go home. As she flicked on the lights to her house, Cait saw the big mess she had left on the table. Papers and her laptop were strewn across the table while she struggled to find that mysterious person from a long time ago, the person with the powder blue eyes and the bright red hair.

Cait sighed as nothing came up in the results from her search. Even working as a private detective didn’t help, which should not be possible as she had such a huge network to find people. Closing her laptop she sighed, it was already 12:00 A.M. she had to go get some rest.

Looking down at the choppy sea and incoming storm, Cait knew she should get back to the shore, but she couldn't. The deep Prussian blue of the sea with fluffy spume looked beautiful. Within minutes her boat was overtaken with pouring rain and bone chilling winds. Even in this terrible weather, Cait stayed on the boat not moving, staring at the sea.

She felt it. She felt it. She felt it tugging on her heart. Her mind was clouding and she couldn't think straight. Cait wanted to jump– she wanted to jump off the boat and into the water. The sea was calling her and she couldn't resist the call. Her brain knew it was wrong but her heart was in control this time.

She jumped, Cait jumped into the sea with the stormy weather. She could barely stay above the water, the tall frigid waves kept her under. The calling was more aggressive now, like it wanted her to swim to the bottom of the sea and drown. Without thinking she dove down into hazy sea. She couldn't see but that didn't matter, all she needed to do was get to the bottom. She could feel her chest tightened as the air left her lungs.

Cait woke up in a cold sweat. Looking at the clock the time read 4:34 A.M. She couldn't remember what her dream had been that well, only a few pieces here and there, but she knew she had to get to the sea.

Unlike her dream the weather was clear, and the ocean was calm. She sat at her usual spot on the dock with her feet dangling in. The water lapped against her legs as she stared off into the distance.

Cait felt eyes on her, she couldn't tell from where but she could feel them. To Caits surprise she wasn't feeling uneasy or nervous, she felt calm. So with a steady voice she called out

“Hello?
